I'm playing a game where I'm fighting a long, slow war with the Aztecs. I didn't want to take them over as quickly as possible, I wanted to drag them into the ground through bombing first and then take them with paratroopers. Anyway, I have about 60 bombers, and I've noticed something:

Units in cities are not attacked first until they are destroyed. If there is a unit in the city, you can hit the unit, or a pop point, or an improvement, or miss. The only times that the game has a "unit-first" clause, IIRC, is when it is a unit on a tile. The tile will not be damaged until the unit is destroyed, and this was in vanilla civ, IIRC.

All this is with air bombardment, not artillery. I just wanted to point this out. If land, sea, and air bombardment are all like this, I don't see a problem with it. :)

I have noticed this as well.
Most so with air, and water siege, can't confirm it with artillery

Air bombard works just like all bonbardment worked in PTW -- with chances to hit units, improvements, or population. Land bombardment always targets units first -- only after all units are redlined will land bombardment have a chance at hitting city improvements or population.

Yet another reason why bombers are great in C3C. :yeah: I seriously prefer them to Artys now (they may be statisitically weaker, but in my current game my 60 Bombers don't miss very often).

The bombers are great. They are really a necessity when fighting modern wars. They not only destroy tile improvements, but the craters make them even better.

craters will slow down travel speed? or just for show

They have to be cleared to work the tile. They can make a city kinda useless for a while.

Usally when i'm crushing my last civ on the map and have some time on my hands i will bombard every squar around the city and let it starv out and then move it / bombard the city. I usally raze these cities becuase i don't feel like working the land agian, plus leaving a crator of destruction in your wake is always nice :D

Craters turn the tile into 1 food 1 shield, IIRC, so they are great for starving the city down. :D With a little patience, you can REALLY wreck a civ's core with bombers now...
