How long before you start getting buildings/wonders /civics that help control  ? Is Mod Rule the only early game means of doing so?
Luxuries with Caravan houses, Jewellers etc., Monarchy/Oligarchy, early religions. But yes, before Classical era you are supposed to have very little in the way of happiness management.
Buildings and wonders in early game take a long time to build in terms of game years (too long) in the early game, imho.
Well, that one is subjective. With not many things to build overall in ancient era, would you rather run out of things to build quicker?
City happiness and productivity is greatly affected by resources nearby. If your starting place is resource poor in the critical resources you are at a major disadvantage to the AI.
Absolutely and quite intentional.
Is the Archipelago map the only official map for RI? I like it but think you should have more landmass types.
What gave you that idea? Most random map scripts work with RI.
Pretty frustrated over the inability to control unhappiness Except by Mob Rule for all the early eras.
Suggestion, you should look into Vincentz Jungle camp Modmod. Why?, because your perceptions on jungle tiles usage are not realistic. Jungles are Not places of disease and doom as vanilla CIV IV portrays them. They are in fact rich in resources. Yours just exaggerate the negative perception.
I can't really say I agree with you here. Jungle is a place of diesase and doom, when it comes to humans. To quote wiki on that: "Tropical rainforests are
unable to support human life. Food resources within the forest are extremely dispersed due to the high biological diversity and what food does exist is largely restricted to the canopy and requires considerable energy to obtain. Some groups of hunter-gatherers have exploited rainforest on a seasonal basis
but dwelt primarily in adjacent savanna and open forest environments where food is much more abundant. Other peoples described as rainforest dwellers are hunter-gatherers who subsist in large part by trading high value forest products such as hides, feathers, and honey with agricultural people living outside the forest."
As for resources, another quote: "Yam, Coffee, chocolate, banana, mango, papaya, macadamia, avocado, and sugarcane all
originally came from tropical rainforest and are still mostly grown on plantations in regions that
were formerly primary forest."
In both cases, italics are mine.
Cruel asked for some feedback and this is what I have noticed the most so far. I will have other things to say as I progress further into the mod. I play test on Noble level only and I did pick your slowest game speed. Should I have used a faster one?
JosEPh
Yes, you probably should have picked the recommended one, although of course the pace of gameplay is a matter of personal taste, but you are complaining of long build times yourself, so Realistic (or even Semi-Realistic) game speed might be better suited for you.
