Realism Invictus

Still having a consistent issue today reloading saves with rev 4006. These are new games, I'm not trying to update and then load old saves.

The xml log shows it crapping out at GraphicOptionInfo.

I've been experimenting with the largest map sizes in the Planet Generator script. As that is a new thing for me, I'll try a game with Perfectworld (which has been free of problems previously).

I was having problems reloading saves as well (without updating between start of game and reload), I am at work so I can't tell you exactly what revision it was on, but I will check once I get back home.

I was using the World Map (Huge), so it is not limited to the script map.

@ Heinous hat and Darkphoenix:
I'm playing at that time a game on revision 4013. I have no problems.

What I'm sure of is that all the last revisions weren't save compatible. As I won't commit anything in the next few days (I'm adding a new civ - a long task), maybe you should update to 4013 and try starting a new game. On my side, I use the random map "PerfectMongoose_v321_RI_Edition" (which is included in the SVN). This map was specialy made for RI and uses the new features.

After updating, if you still meet problems, I ask you to post a message.

Have fun !

@Hian the Frog:
a CTD appeard again at rev. 4014 after loading a savegame which was also at rev. 4014.
I use the random map "RI_Planet_Generator".

I've played a game with rev 4014 into the classic era (huge map, PerfectMongoose) and the problem is still occurring. Here I was able to load saves from within the game for a while. However, when loading from main menu I get CTD.

Which logs would be useful to analyze or post? I've enabled mini-dumps as well if that's helpful.

thanks Hian

edit: I suppose I should note that I'm running with the art files packed as well as the terrain pack. I do override some terrain textures via loose files (directly in realism folder). I'll try minimizing my setup to experiment. Tried a vanilla game briefly and it seemed ok.

Another interesting point -- I can start a new game, progress a bit and load saves from within the game. However, shutting down the program, restarting and then trying to load even the initial auto save (which had worked fine prior to restart) results in CTD. Hmm...

Workaround Confirmed:

If I start a new game before loading anything, I can then load my previous saves. :goodjob:

I never would have thought of that. Thanks.

EDIT: I have done nothing to my version except update SVN. The current game I was having issues with was started as a new game in revision 4014, and I have not updated past there.

Yes :) That does indeed work, all old saves load up that way. Much appreciated.

edit

@Hian

Here is an initial save along with the log folder. Those logs timestamped 10:03 in the archive are updated just prior to the CTD. I've also attached a (small) crash dump. Mod is at rev 4014 (art fpk is at 4007)

same to me.

Classical Asian town flying in the air and having shadows - is that intended? :) Might also be an older glitch since I don't play the newest SVN version.

First time I've come back to civ 4 in years due to how rubbish Civ 5 was. Nethertheless, I spotted your mod and it's fantastic. Just one slight problem, I'm constantly getting a C++ runtime error.
I've uninstalled & reinstalled both Civ, the mod and DirectX SDK etc. No luck. No need ask me on the spec's as my pc should run this game a plenty of times over.
I see other people have had this problem. Can you provide any help on this?

It sounds like the game load problems started after I overhauled the tech tree generation. I had to move around a bunch of the Civ4 initialization code to make the tech tree available from the main menu. I probably knocked something out of whack in the process.

Unfortunately my video card crapped out yesterday so I can't fix it just yet. In the meantime use the workaround you've discovered. Also, if you get a chance, would you try firing up the game and from the main menu go to Civilopedia -> Tech Tree to force the tree to generate, then try loading the saved game? Let me know if that works.

Thank you for your patience!

No worries :)

Entering the tech tree from the main menu->pedia before loading still generates a crash on load

@sjodster: thx for the reply. I thought that it has something to do with your techtree overhaul. I try your intstructions but it doesn't work. A CTD appeared again.

To all players using the SVN version:

As you may have read, we have a (minor) problem when loading saved games. Some of you have found a solution to play save games (read previous posts): thanks to them ! :goodjob:
Of course it will be corrected as soon as possible.

Revision 4015 is massive: a new civilization, event update and back to the old tech tree. (Revision 4016 is a small correction.)
I'm not satisfied with what should have been the new tech tree: I revert to the old one until I have the right solution.
Events are updated to take into account the new National Improvements.
New Civilization.... you will see. :)

All these changes must be tested, balanced, etc.
I hope for feedbacks. :scan: We need them !

Update to REVISION 4016 and play !

Good game.

Hian the Frog.

How can I play the "Revision 4016" version of the mod? Any install instructions?

It's the SVN version.

See here for instructions on how to use the SVN version:

http://www.realism-invictus.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=825

Some notes:

1. When you first start up the mod, it will take a very long time compared to what you expect normally (because the files aren't packed I think), and nothing pops up immediately, this is normal. (If you ctrl-alt-del and look at task manager, you can see the BtS process running.)

2. If you want to update to a specific version (for example, it is known that the last "stable" version is revision XXXX, and version XXXX+3 has some things put in it that broke something else), then when you right click the mod folder and go to SVN, you want to select the option to update to a specific revision, rather than just plain updating it. I'm at work right now so I can't give you the specific path.
