Really loud audio "pop" at end of turn?

Not every time, but often enough to be a pain, I am getting some really loud pops at the end of my turn.

Is this a known fault, is there any fix?

When I enter diplomacy is one trigger. It seems each nation should have its own theme? But it plays as one loud, distorted blast rather than the music actually changing as I assume designed.

This is apparently a sound-driver problem with Win10. See this thread (in addition to the problem described in the title, the OP also complains about an occasional popping noise), which includes a possible fix:
