I'm getting real good in Regent, so I think soon I'm gonna try Monarch.
My only real problem is that I'm somehow stuck in playing with the Japanese, I dunno why. The only answer I got is that the style of the Japanese civilization (Militaristic and Religious, with a great Monarchy, which is my favorite governament, the great UU Samurai, which is really good and has perfect timing in my strategy, etc.) is perfect with my style, my strategy. When I play with other civs, I just figure that I can't use their real potencial like I can when I play with the Japanese.
I think I'm gonna try with Babylonians, Greeks or maybe Celts, this time, to victory or death, and I really hope to win. If I do, then I'll try Monarch level.

Yeah, I had the same problem with the Germans, but when I started going up in difficulty I had to change as it negated the effects of the panzer on higher levels because Mr. AI already had MI and MA...

Maybe you should try perfecting "other" civs on regent/monarchy before you go up a level. They all have there own unique abilities which is what makes this game so fun :)

Yeah, you're right. But I really find it difficult when I try to put that in the game since the Japanese just fit in my style. You know, its Monarchy is great and stable, the Samurai is an awesome unit and comes in the right time and place, they build Cathedrals and Temples really fast, besides many other things.
But thanks for your advice, anyway. I'll try to improve my skills with other civs as well as I did with the Japanese.
Hope you solved your little problem as well. I think I'll try playing with the Germans next time, it's worth at least a try, isn't it?

Welcome to CFC, Siberian_wolf!

It's very easy to get stuck in a certain playing style. I like industrious myself, but since it's toned down in C3C, I'm branching out quite a bit. I've played the Incans, Mayans, and Dutch. I like the dutch! Some nice advantages.

But Sabo has some good advice. . . try some other civs. Find a combo completely different then what you're used to. When I was moving from Chieftan to Warlord, then Warlord to Regent, I would go back to America, cuz it's what I knew. Now tho, I tend to try different civs, and see what I like.

But it's very easy to get locked into a certain trait, especially with Religous. One turn anarchy is hard to give up. . .

Experiement, and have some fun with it!

Good luck.

Two-turn anarchy if he's playing Conquests. I'm discovering the joys of a French and Korean rut. :D

Really glad for all your help. I was going to try Germans, but after some thinking I guess I'll just play with the Persians and their Immortals, some friends say they're really good.
But, just for you to know, I do like Religious, but not cause of their one turn Anarchy. It helps, of course, but I really like it cause their Temples and Cathedrals are produced faster. For example, I can build a Cathedral faster than a Colosseum and its effect is better, both for happiness and culture.
But anyway, I'll go try Persians today, maybe later I'll write about it.

try the abbasids. theyr'e religous and you get rid of anarchy. they also have the best unit in c3c. ansar warrior. lethal and quick let you dominate at monarch level.

i like the english in a republic government .. but make sure u have at least 3 Luxury resources and a 10% lux slide with it.. that seems to be the minimum.. but i get sooooooooooo much money :D

Republic??? I have to say, it would be a new experience to me, since I don't even remember the last time I used Republic. I dunno, I really liked your point, and it'll be a challenge to me. But still, I guess I won't play with the English, since.. you know... their UU sucks!!! And it gets even worse to me, since I love to play Pangaea...
But I really liked your idea... playing in a Republic government... sounds great!!!!

On a pangaea map, the Expansionist trait makes England a good civ. The Man o' War isn't great as UU's go, but you can sure trigger a GA with it.

In my experience, there is a huge difficulty gap between regent and monarch. Monarch is a lot more difficult. For someone like me who used to play civ2 at emperor level, it is a humbling experience not to be able to win civ3 at monarch, which is the case with me.

I had this problem too. For me, Regent was too easy. Monarch was too hard. What I did was in Regent give the AI an extra starting Settler. Or maybe it was a couple of warriors, I don't remember. But I did give them extra units, and this helped me make the jump to Monarch.

That's a pretty good idea, Turner. I found the gap between Regent and Monarch much greater than Monarch to Emperor.

Thanks. . . now that I think about it, I might have done something with the tech rate too. I think I put it about halfway between monarch and regent.

I feel your pain fellow CIV player... :(

On a serious note, what do the experienced players suggest when making the Regent-Monarch jump?

Join Monarch level SGs, they helped me to jump over that BIG leap. I have learned very much just by reading others SGs too
