I don't get it.
Recent games one of the other civilizations comes up with a Great Prophet to my holy city and converts it in one turn.

In this current game, my holy city has 29 citizens and 29 followers of my religion, no other religion is present. Still the Great Prophet is able to convert the city instantly.

What is the proper strategy against this? Popping into the other civilization with my own Great Prophet and do the same? I was trying to go for a defensive game and stay out of wars, but I have to go to war to kill the prophet.

Any suggestions?
Thanks :)

At the moment only a few. Surround your cities with units so a Great Prophet can't reach it/them.

Buy an inquisitor and station him in your city (Great prophets can't convert it then).

Or kill the great prophet and hope it hasn't been used yet for a holy site.

Inquisitors prevent conversion.

I don't really understand why Great Prophets even have a religious strength. If they only had the strength listed, there is no way they could convert so many citizens and wipe out all the opposing religion in cities like the one in the OP.

Buy an inquisitor.
Check :)

But it does seem OP that they can convert a city like that.

I am currently heading over to his city and convert his city, then he can taste his own medicine. The AI probably dont know what irony tastes like.
