This I don't get....I'm Ethiopia. I founded Judaism. I'm the top dog on my continent with Darius, Wang Kon, Ramesses and Gilgamesh. I spread my religion to every city Ramesses had, and gilgamesh by contact became jewish. Wang founded buddhism.

But for apparently no reason the "friendly" ramesses decides to become a buddhist. Gilgamesh too. Keep in mind I had used missionaries to hit every city they had before hand. And I can't ask them to convert because "they don't like me enough". Even though we trade frequently. I don't understand how Wang Kon could persuade them to change.

I've done everything to keep a good relationship with them, but these 2 traitors seem determined to not like me. Is it because I'm actually beating them in score? I built the AP just for the option of being able to stop a war if they all decide to dogpile me.

Probably there was a Buddhist AP in play ? The AI tend to favor the AP religion a bit...

Otherwise perhaps WK bribed them to Switch. I dont know however, why you cant ask them to switch while at friendly...

[EDIT] Sorry, just reread that you have the AP...

It's probably just that the others are all very friendly with each other and are easily bribed. Also, since you now have differing religions they're even more likely to be unfriendly to you due to the "heathen religion" modifiers, exacerbating the problem.

I may be wrong about this but I think AIs generally don't switch religions unless they're asked to or they're switching to one they founded. That would be my guess for the situation you've described. In other words, if you somehow found a way to ask them to switch, they probably would.

Take the Buddhism holy city and burn it to the ground. They will all switch to Judaism.

Or just put them all to the sword. Kill them all. God will know his own. :king:

The AIs don't have the AP I do, and neither Gilgamesh or Ramesses had a religion until I hit them with mine.

Wang Kon, who I've always hated to have as a neighbor anyhow, must have gotten to them somehow. It wouldn't bug me as much except that I went out of my way to cultivate a friendship with these guys and Ramesses not only changes up on mr, but now he doesn't like me enough to switch religions? Wang Kon is DEAD LAST in power? Whats he got, pictures of you sleeping with farm animals???

Darius I gave up on. He was further away through jungle and I coldn't build enough missionaries and escorts to make it worth the trouble until later. But I noticed now in the 16th century, that after I hit him with a missionary a bit earlier he's spread my religion himself to all of his cities. Maybe he'll switch? I don't know.

I'm not sure what your point was there. I knew you had the AP. I was trying to give you reasons why despite the fact you have the AP they are not switching to your religion. As I said, my guess is that they won't switch unless you can find a way to ask them even though they'd get production bonuses etc. by switching. Because they are not friendly enough for you to ask they are stuck with the lesser religion.

The thing that IS unusual is that they didn't switch religion to yours when you hit them with it before anyone else got to them. If you can spread a religion to most of their cities before anyone else does they'd usually convert by themselves.

Sorry, the AP thing was in response to Refar, not you PoM. There was no buddhist AP because I had built it.

I may not have explained this clearly...the AIs of Ramesses and Gilgamesh both initially picked Judiasm, my religion, but then changed to Buddhism. Perhaps Wang Kon spammed them with missionaries also, but even so, wouldn't they (or shouldn't they) be more apt to saty with Judiasm anyway? I was number #1 in the power ranking, I had been trading fairly with them and wouldn't they at least of somewhat of a negative modifier in dealing with Wang's requests, let alone him ASKING them to switch religions?

With Ramesses little "I don't like you enough" thing under convert I'm confused. He has absolutely NO reason to not like me. We shared a religion, which I might add, is in all of his cities whether its the state religion or not....I've traded fairly and GIVEN him resources and advances. I swear, its as if the AI is saying "No matter what you do we're going to make it so you have no allies when we attack later on".

To be honest I should have seen this coming, not that i agree with the situation. Somehow Wang Kon is behind this. every game he's in he's a little greasy weasel. If i had been playing an aggressive war like civ with an early UU I'd probably have tried to wipe him out. (But the same thing that protected me protected him....a large swath of jungle between our civs. Too much trouble to send stacks through, that would most likely be obsolete by the time they got there). I really hate that guy.

The problem is AIs are always much more willing to trade with each other and for them I don't think things are redded out very often. To be honest I don't think your power rating comes into the equation much, if at all, when they consider whether or not to join the Buddhists. Also, any time spent in the past sharing the same religion has no relevance to diplo modifiers anymore. What matters is whether you share a religion right now. It's a bummer of a situation for you, but one that doesn't happen too often. Once AIs get all friendly with each other and share religions it's very hard to separate them again, unless you do as others said and kill the shrine city or possibly just Wang Kon completely.

This just amplifies my pleasure from always having diplo victory turned off. The AP seems to do nothing but stuff that would annoy me to a point where a game restart would be required. Glad i have the freedom to choose :)
