Hello (again).
This is a specialist Multi-figure unit for Civ3, "Religious Crusade."
Made from several default Civ3 units, from Steph's SBB utility.
Usage recommendations:
Requires Monotheism, costs 100 shields, costs 3 population; give it high combat stats relative to contemporary units (I gave it 1 more attack then the Knight); give it +2 hit points, I also gave it the abilities to Join City and Build City, AI strategies set to Offense and Settle.
Finally, have it become obsolete fairly quickly (like with gunpowder or a little sooner).
I feel this makes it a good unit to symbolize the Crusades, since it involves the movement of population, as well as military conquest.
Admittedly, the unit is most useful for a human player, as the AI can't use it to it's full potential; I've only seen the AI use this as a heavy offensive unit, and I doubt it would use it to join a city - which is a very handy little ability to have on this unit.
But, if you have the unit become obsolete early enough, it won't be an all-over-the-damn-place AI built unit: the shield and population cost, and the small window the unit is availible counters this problem. So, the unit turns out being a short-lived, expensive, but extremely powerful force... kind of like what the Crusades were.
Oh yeah, a final note: I made the unit with a mixture of Civ3 units, and so I feel it is generic enough (with the name as well) to be used by all civs in the game.
Installation:
Just unzip the file to art/units/ and have fun.
The .ini links to some default sound effects, so you don't need to move any sound files around. Although I would prefer sounds more fitting to this unit, it works fine for now (and I don't know how to mess with the sounds, nor want to add the extra d/l size from the waves).
I have included two Civilopedia Icons in the zip as well, if you don't know how to add them in, you don't need to bother as it doesn't effect the unit's performance in game. For the unit icon (in units_32.pcx) I suggest just using one of the default army icons (the flag/banner icons), since some of the are not used.
