The crash occurred when processing Germany's moves on turn 122 (See "AutoSave_0120 AD-1200.Civ5Save" and "Askia_0122 AD-1240_CRASH_NXT_TRN.Civ5Save"). The sound stopped, jittered once and then stopped entirely. The mouse cursor changed to a standard Windows pointer when hovering over the middle of the screen and Alt+Tab no longer had effect. Ctrl+Alt+Del -> Task Manager took me back to Windows where I could see the message box telling me that Civ 5 had crashed. Memory dump files are attached in directory "01 Between Turns Crash/Mem Dumps".
Perhaps somebody could confirm this for me? Gratuitous information follows:
# System Spec
* v1.0.3.144 of Civ 5
* Windows 7
* Intel i7 920@3.8GHz watercooled (not overheating)
* 12GB RAM
* 2x Gigabyte nVidia Geforce GTX 570 Super Overclocked editions in SLI (not overheating)
* Gigabyte EX58-UD5 motherboard
* Game runs on D: Which is formatted with the Linux EXT2 file system. This can sometimes be an issue with some games, but it's never affected Civ before. It has 248GB free space out of 698GB total.
* Windows runs on C: which is formatted with NTFS. Has 13.1GB free space out of 115GB total. Not an SSD.
* This is the first game I have played since installing Brave New Worlds DLC
* Dual full HD monitors, side by side. Game is played on the left-hand one which is set as primary display in Windows.
* No Civ 5 mods
## The following things happened in the lead-up to the crash:
### Turn 121
* Met a new city state (whose name escapes me)
* Scout trespassing in Antananarivo
* Barbarian encampment that Budapest wanted killed has been killed by someone else
* Gao discovered a religion
* Chose a new social policy
### Turn 122
* Discovered great barrier reef
* Discovered great barrier reef again (Bug? Cause of the crash??)
* Zanzibar influence increased
* Barbarian encampent discovered
* Killed a group of barbarians, increasing influence with Jerusalem
## I tried the following things which did not stop it from crashing:
* Verified integrity of game cache on Steam
* Updated nVidia graphics card driver to 331.65
* Disabling SLI
* Not meeting the new city state
* Choosing a different social policy
* Stopped scout from trespassing in Antananarivo
* Setting LeaderHead to 1 (to disable) in config.ini
* Running in windowed mode
* Running in DirectX 9 mode (wasn't able to get the main menu to show up (wrong resolution?) and eventually lead to a crash. Rebooting my machine solved this one, but I've included memory dumps anyway in "02 Start Game Crash" directory)
# DLC Installed
* Denmark
* Mongols, Genghis Khan,
* Polynesia
* Babylon Nebuchadnezzar II
* Explorer's Map Pack
* Americas
* Asia
* Mediterranean
* Mesopotamia
* Spain, Isabella and Inca, Pa ... (chopped off on Steam UI)
* Brave New World
