We have to decide soon, which government we want to adopt at some point, as our research path has to be planned accordingly.

Republic: After thinking about it, I think we can go with Republic (even with war time), as we have several luxuries nearby.

Monarchy: The only advantage here is that there is no war weariness. (And maybe the better unit support).

That's good, this poll was much-needed. I'm not quite decided, but I think a Republic would probably be the best option. We don't want to mark ourselves out as total warmongerers (especially in the event that the Knight's Brotherhood are our neighbors), yet we can still wage effective wars if we manage to avoid being the ones that declare war. Plus, the Republic gold bonus will pay for the diminished unit support and slightly higher luxury slider rates.

It's a difficult choice, but my mind was made up by the fact that we have further to go to get to Monarchy. Hopefully we will not have to suffer a second revolt to Monarchy if things get too bad.

The difference between going for Monarchy and the Republic in beakers is 950 to 1050 That's a 9% difference. Going for Monarchy gives us 4 techs, Republic two (that means collecting the end of research gold bonus 4 times, not 2). Monarchy gives us 3 Wonders to build, Republic none. Temples will be available with Monarchy. With Republic, we will get nothing for 950 beakers, and then only the restriction of war weariness (and better commerce). But I understand how being in a Republic is attractive.

Monarchy gives us 3 Wonders to build, Republic none.
What wonders are you speaking of and how would they help us?

No, but compared to what we can build now, they would make good pre-builds. Like for the Great Lighthouse...?
