Sorry can someone please answer these 5 basic questions.

Question 1

What are the benefits of keeping a good rep ?
I mean they still will trade with you for techs without a
problem, even after Ive broken 10 peace treaties :)

Question 2

Does it only effect MPP & MA & ROP & Gpt & Lux agreements ?

Question 3.

If you formally declare war in the foreign advisor
panel, does this effect your reputation. It effects there
mood (annoyed/furious) but does it effect your rep ?

Question 4

If you have a unit next to his city and you attack after
your advisor warns you, does this effect the rep ?
This is what I usually do :) If so its better to declare
war first.

Question 5

After signing a peace treaty for 20 turns I gather you get a
rep hit if you declare war within that period, but after it
expires and you formally declare war, I gather your rep
does not take a hit.

Thanks in advance

JFL_Dragon :)

1. I find that if you've got a bad rep, the treaties and agreements you sign will cost more. Much more. Much, much, much more.

2. Those and every other potential diplomatic solution available, yes.

3. I'm not entirely sure. I never went and did that.

4. Yes, yes, I'm pretty sure it does. However, what I do is force the other guy's hand by moving mass amounts of troops as far within the adversary's border as I can. Then he asks me to leave, I refuse, he declares war, and my reputation remains, as far as I can see, relatively unscathed.

5. That is not a question. :p

hum.. what dificulty do you play on?
There's no way I can manage that in Deity/Emperor-games.
No matter how angry the enemy is, I will have to move out my forces (auto) or declare war myself..

no i think what is happening is that you are forcing him to declare war but it is you that gets the blame

Ah. Really? So I'm still taking the fall after all? Shoot... there goes that strategy, then.... *sigh* Back to Ye Olde Drawing Board...

Reputation doesn't matter if you are #1 on the list anyway; the AIs will team against you anyway. Be ready!

No they wouldnt because if you have a good reputation they will all like you
its if you have a bad reputation then your screwed

This has been my experience as well in a regent game. I was a democracy and they took turns declaring war on me. This kept my populace unhappy even at the cost of taking down a few AIs.

Ok, to declare war, every time, i go to the leader in the diplomacy screen. From here i either choose the option like "I'm sick of your insolence, prepare for war!" or go to the existing agreements and select the peace treaty and go to renegotiate the treaty. If they don't give me what I want, it's war.

You will take a rep hit if you surprise attack a city (counts as a ROP betrayal.) Don't have units inside enemy territory when you declare war. If you break an ROP or MPP or anything, it will cost heaps to make one with other people.

To keep from taking a rep hit when you declare war do the following:
1) Remove all troops from the defenders territory.
2) Cancel all trade agreements with the defender as some will continue even after the twenty turns is up and it will cause a rep hit.
3) Declare war by diplomacy, either hit the "this means war", or redo the peace treaty.
Unfortunately, this means the AI gets the first shot (if units are within range) and you can't sneak attack them with a quick landing. However, the AI is pretty stupid and will not react to your loaded transports until the troops land.

Question 1

What are the benefits of keeping a good rep ?
-> the comp is less likly to sneak attack. Tech and trade agreements are cheaper. Comps are willing to trade with you.

I mean they still will trade with you for techs without a
problem, even after Ive broken 10 peace treaties

-> If you break a treaty, that comp will vote against you if the UN is ever built... When you attack a comp, do so with the intent of destroying the nation. If the comp attacks you, take one of his cities and frisk him for tech and cash.

Question 2

Does it only effect MPP & MA & ROP & Gpt & Lux agreements ?

If you the biggest baddest nation and the other comp is polite or so, you will get offered mpp's. Similarly, you can ask for mpp's, rop... etc.

If your puny, the other comps will try to frisk you of resources. If your attitude from them to you becomes furious, you need to take one of their cities or endure some duration of war.

Question 3.

If you formally declare war in the foreign advisor
panel, does this effect your reputation. It effects there
mood (annoyed/furious) but does it effect your rep ?

-> your rep to that civ will go to furious once you declare war or if they declare war. Either you need to take one of their cities or endure a period of war. If you have a trade agreement or other outstanding agreements other than mpp's rop's during peace time and cant cancel them, declare war on another country such that country will come to its aid. This will cause a cascade effect where you have may have 3 allies but one of the three will turn against you. Your other 2 allies will declare war on the one you wished to declare war on. Let a few turns pass or try to sue for peace with the *chump* country and then let a few turns pass and start actons your intended country.

Question 4

If you have a unit next to his city and you attack after
your advisor warns you, does this effect the rep ?
This is what I usually do If so its better to declare
war first.

Unless that is the last civ standing, dont do it. Your rep will be damaged across the board. I have declared war on a civ that had one city left that I could not reach and one of its older cities flipped on me. I had to carry this rep with me though the whole game.... my ally, germany did not mind but the english did...

Question 5

After signing a peace treaty for 20 turns I gather you get a
rep hit if you declare war within that period, but after it
expires and you formally declare war, I gather your rep
does not take a hit.

Peace treaties are not turn based... I dont think. ROP's are, mpps are and all of these agreements can be bundled together.

Such as peace + dye + 10 gold per turn for peace.

A good way to keep a comp out of your hair for 20 turns is to give them luxaries or some resource for 20 turns...
