Research agreement didn't give me a tech?!

I just noticed that a research agreement that I signed 33 turns earlier never gave me anything. I looked through the notifications, my tech tree - I got absolutely nothing, guaranteed. Nice waste of 250 gold...

So is it possible to give yourself a tech by editing a save game file? Or will I need to wait for the world builder to come out?

A research agreement isn't a tech trade. I don't know what it exactly does but I think you and your partner get a beaker bonus.

No, you're supposed to get a random tech after so many turns (30?), the beaker bonus was changed (although that is what it was originally)

It is great when the tech you get is the one you are researching that only has 2 turns left.

Are you sure the agreement was not canceled ?

This. If you didn't get a random tech after 30 turns (on standard speed), then it's because there was a war between the two of you. The other possibility is that it randomly gave you the tech you were researching the turn you were going to get it (that would really suck. I don't know if that can happen, unless you only have that tech available for research, which again can only happen late game). Or you may have gotten the tech and not noticed. I have already had a few times where I got a random tech and didn't realize it was from the research agreement right away.

If you check the bugs forum, you will see a thread discussing diplomatic agreements not terminating. So far, most people have reported peace treaties that never end.

However, I had a never-ending research agreement.... which persisted for always... even though other agreements were signed and completed.

Will the "diplomatic deals" window list when the agreement finishes? I have a listing of when it began, and it was supposed to finish in 45 turns, but that was about 80 turns ago. No listing of it finishing or what I got from it (which would be nice to know). I don't remember anything popping up.

edit: Actually, I know this one is bugged cause when I talk to the guy, I can't start a new one cause it says there is already one going.

Buggy release ftl =/

No the OP is right. Research agreements often go by without giving you anything. You would notice when you get your tech because theres a notification on the right hand side. But I can play through the expiration of 5 different tech agreements and get no notifications and no techs. In the diplomacy screen it even show them as expired.

I've also had trouble with them not expiring so you cant sign new agreements, but that is another issue.
Also if you go to war when having a research agreement, it finishes and you get a free tech early.
Only answer is BUGGG

There is so much to mistrust about these. Apart from not wanting some random trash tech or something I'm just about to finish researching, I'm not at all sure where my gold is going, or whether the other guy is really spending any of his/hers. Or what (presumably positive) effect completion may have on our mutual relations. Plus all the stuff on this thread so far. Grief, there are so many better ways to use gold...

What puzzles me is that the AI seems desperate to squander its treasure this way (assuming it really does spend it). After being inundated with offers, it's great to find that they've linked up with each other and I'm out of the leaderhead loop...
