We also miss Monotheism (like we care ;)). I think we should research Engineering now, giving us the impressive Trebuchets and superior roads. That'll greatly help a possible war against Lincoln. Trebuchets + Samurai can make a scary stack.

We could also go Feudalism -> Guilds. That'll take longer than Engineering, and to be honest, I think Trebuchets will improve our attack more than Knights will. Samurai are probably on the same level as Knights as city attackers. Trebuchets, on the other hand, are a great improvement of Catapults in terms of anti-city siege.

We could also do Paper -> Education for the Liberalism race. I suppose we could win it, but we could also lose it. I'm confident we'll have a better chance against Lincoln on the battlefield than in the libraries.

Sounds good but whats this about vassalage?

Engineering, Paper and Philosophy are ours. We're up Engineering on everyone, and Paper on everyone but Gandhi. He's our only real competitor for Liberalism. I suggest going for Education->Liberalism now. Taking Printing Press as our free tech.

How did we go from unsure about a liberalism win to confident?

I'm not sure I would be so confident, science is only 50% and many cities don't have libraries. Considering we are on the brink of war guilds might be a better choice.

I don't know about liberalism, but I also don't like the idea of guilds much either because of our samurai.

Now that you mention it though, do our cities really not have libraries, whatever happened to our SE, I hope that the many cities that do not have libraries are not our science cities, save for commerce ones.

A great king :king:

:mischief:

Some decent trading, good, focussed, teching, using our philo trait to get Great Scientists, good micromanagement, pillaging money from the Spanish war, and Madrid and Barcelona with their money bringing wonders.

At the moment, our only competitor for Liberalism is Gandhi, and I think we can beat him.

Well people, as of now, it appears to be a quest for Education->Liberalism. Are there other views that we have not heard from the citizenry? If so, please post below. That great King has been replaced.

I support the path to liberalism if it is within our reach. I cannot check the save so I leave it up to our leader(s). Seems we should be a bit behind technologically given the game difficulty and our recent war. If we are still in the running it is a testament to our great civilization.

I estimate we are about 10 turns from Liberalism right now. I think we should research Education and Liberalism now. We can then pick our free techs. The main options IMO are Astronomy (we need to make the Optics trade with Augustus), Printing Press and Nationalism.
Tech info (beaker count isn't accurate for our current game, but the ratios are the same)

Nationalism is already known to Gandhi, and I'll bet you 10 bucks he will finish the Taj Mahal wonder before we can get even close. Otherwise, the tech leads to Military Tradition, but we're quite a ways off from Cuirassiers or Cavalry.

Printing Press will give us +1 :commerce: on every village and town, which is great, and it leads towards Replaceable Parts, and that in turn to Rifling. I think this is the best option.

Astronomy will give us access to observatories, but I think only Arkadia really can afford to spend hammers on that right now, other cities need to build units. It will also give us intercontinental traderoutes, for when we meet the remaining 2 civs.

I personally think we should do Education - Liberalism - Free Printing Press - Guilds - Banking - Replaceable Parts - Gunpowder - Rifling (straight Rifling beeline). This picks up grocers and banks along the way, to increase our gold output (especially in shrine city Madrid), and it leads us to riflemen.

Welcome back, Provolution. :goodjob:

Dutch's plan is what works for me.

So basically, it's between:
Education - Liberalism - Free Printing Press

And
Education - Liberalism - Free Astronomy

?

Yep, poll it?

Guilds is inexpenisve compared to the other options so you want a tech with high beakers so getting liberalism becomes worth it. However guilds will soon be a much needed tech, after printing press maybe?
