Just wondering if UN resolutions can affect diplomacy scores, such as if I try to pass the free speech res and it is overwhelmingly voted down.

Could the "Open Markets" resolution cause "you traded with our worst enemy" diplo hits?

Ah, so trading resources does not cause a "traded with our worst enemy!" penalty?

No, it doesn't. You will likely get requests to stop trading with him though, and if you refuse that will hurt diplo (-1 or -2 depending on leader). Of course, stopping the trade pisses your trade partner off, so there is still some strategy to consider here.

Nope. That's only related to tech trades and gold (also world map but that isn't weighted very much).

Is there any way to see what AIs have traded between each other? because their knowledge of war bribes, trade embargos, and worst enemy trades is not really fair...

Don't think so.

Worst enemy maphacking on the AI's part has been a complaint of mine for some time. I do so greatly dislike being a worst enemy on contact for the sole reason of trading with an AI that used to be a worst enemy .

Thanks for the replies. TMIT, so do I understand you correctly that I can earn negative diplomacy points with another leader if a resolution I propose succeeds and forces them to stop running their favorite civic?

I think what he's saying is a resolution that forces YOU out of another civs favorite civic will cause you to LOSE the POSITIVE diplo points you had for running his favorite civic.

Edit: Now that I've re-read TMITs' original post I'm more confused than ever.

Thanks for bringing me up to speed Jedi Otis. I thought it could be interesting if your UN proposals could affect the AI's attitude towards you by causing them to run civics they do not want.

Favorite civic bonuses require both civs to be in the civic. If either one is knocked out of that civic, it goes away. There are no demerits for running civics (just heathen religions), but you can get a demerit for refusing to accept a civic change.

Interestingly you can say deliberately avoid theology to avoid such requests from zara (demands theocracy) or use free religion to break up those religious blocs. Any tech you don't need that unlocks a civic can be avoided so you don't get the requests.

The AI will also not make the request if it isn't in the civic itself.

I think what I originally posted was what TMIT was trying to say. I don't think forcing AIs' into different civics has an effect. I think forcing the human player out of an AIs' favorite civic is what has an effect. I'm not sure, though. We'll have to wait for him to come back and clarify.

Forcing AIs into other civics can knock them out of or into favorite civics...and that goes for both you *and* the AI's relations to other AIs. Sometimes, the latter is just as important (avoiding "declare war on friend" demerits, potential for war bribes, or to manipulate who votes for who).

Ok, it's all clear to me now. Unfortunately, these late game situations don't come up enough to get a bead on. It's nice to have someone write it down for me.

Thanks again guys. TMIT you bring up some great points I had never realized. This will definitely help to improve my late-game play.
