Resolution issue - dual widescreen monitors

Hello, first time civ4 player since the good ol Amiga days :)

I currently have two widescreen monitors next to each other set up in dual screen mode, with each one running at 1920x1200 (resulting in 3840x1200), and Civ 4 patched to 152.

When I have just the one monitor running I can happily play the game at 1920x1200, both in full screen and window mode.

In dual screen mode I can also happily run the game at 3840x1200 in window mode, but the thing is I'd like to run it at 1920x1200 (also in window mode) so that I can use the other monitor for browsing/emails, etc at the same time.

Trouble is, the only resolution options I get are 1024x768, 2048x768, 2304x864, etc, continuing upwards. I don't know why it jumps from 1024 like that when the options were there before.

I found on these forums a method of editing 'civilizationIV.ini' and adding values into 'ScreenHeight' and 'ScreenWidth', but this made no difference unfortunately.

Does anyone have any idea to make this work please?

Cheers

Uhm well you might switch your display options in the advanced settings... you know where you can clone the screen and span your desktop...
What do you have as a graphicscard? Nvida or Ati?

Hello and thanks for the reply,

Yep, I've played around with those settings too, and in a way it does work.

For example, I'm currently running in 'Horizontal Span' mode which means my taskbar stretches over both monitors and the background picture is a huge panoramic (which looks very nice indeed). It is this mode where I can't choose 1920x1200.

As an alternative, my nVidia card allows me to choose 'Dual View' whereby the taskbar only appears on one monitor, yet I can still move windows between the two. Unfortunately this means the large wallpaper is replicated on each monitor, which doesn't look as good, but Civ4 works, offering 1920x1200 and 1280x1024.

Ideally I'd like to use 'Horizontal Span', it just seems odd that Civ4 doesn't offer standard resolutions such as 1280x1024 when running in this mode...

Cheers
