Please return seperate offense and defense systems, along with the conscript-to-elite levels of HPs. It is easier for me to understand seperate offense and defense and the conscript-elite scale than varying promotions eligible only to some units and single strength units. Please change to a Civ3-like style of units. It's easier to understand.

Although I like the concepts in CIV III regarding troop XP, I don't think they should be put in place to re-place the existing CIV IV EXP level upgrades. I in fact would like to see a combination of the two.

You could for example build 2-3 swordsman of conscript status or 1 swordsman of veteran status. As you gain XP you would gain more HP (like in CIV III) however you would also be able to grant promotions to your units too.

I always loved the ability to build up woodsmen units and send them out in the early game to beat up the AI. The fact that you could specialize your specialized units was awesome!

Disagree. Firstly, Civ IV does have a hitpoints system.. Secondly, 'effects' modifiers such as +100% vs Mounted, is way, way more versatile than a fixed attack and defense strength.

I prefer the strength system to offense and defense. Offense and defense never made much sense to me. Why are spearmen terrible at attacking? Why are mounted units terrible at defending? It's not like spearmen drop their spears on the way to the enemy or cavalry suddenly forgets how to fight when attacked.

Strength makes more sense. Units have a base combat stat which is modified by promotions and terrain. Knights no longer are incompetent when attacked, but they don't receive terrain bonuses (which makes sense) and spearmen no longer are incompetant on attack but their lower base strength makes it an up hill battle when they don't have defensive bonuses (which also makes sense.)

Hit points are tied directly to strength, and I'm pretty sure he's referring to separating those two as well as separating "strength" into defense and offense.
