I've read the store's return policy that I bought the game from and they do not accept opened software. Anyone have any tips on getting a refund for this game? I tried emailing tech support, but not sure how far I'll make it.

Continue to take it up with tech support. I doubt anyone here can get you a refund.

I know you have a lot of (legitimate) grievances with the game, but I suggest you just hold on to it. By the holiday season there will be a bunch of exciting mods to play

Also, the purpose of Steam and DRM licenses are explicitly to prevent resales - game developers claim to lose a lot of money on used games. No one is going to take your game back unless it is defective

Never buy a game before you've tried it out.

50 dollars is not something to throw away on impulse purchases.. even when it bears a name you "think" you can trust.

I made that mistake with the total war franchise. "It's Total War.. how can they screw it up". Then Empire happened.

Personally i'd keep it. There will be mods soon enough.

I don;'t think emailing tech support will get you very far, you're better off trying to mail customer support of the shop you bought it at.

I've never understood why people are allowed to return things they decide they don't like after a few days.

Didn't play the demo first?

None? Thing is: Once you've opened it, people can't be sure whether you have installed it or not.

And since the first install ties the game to your Steam account forever, it means that after the first install, it's impossible to return/resell it - since it's yours for life (or until Steam goes bankrupt or something).

Note that, as long as you hang on to your Steam account, you can re-download the game as often as you want.

Cheers, LT.

Can't see why they should refund. Features were know, demo was downloadable, just a few days passed and the game is polished, haven't seen any bug. Just wait some week and the game will be better balanced and tweaked, and eventually mods-cIV will be on. Wait some months and this will be the best Grand Strategy Game of ever.

Someone on this forum said, that saying your computer can't run the game, even though it should, might work. But honestly, Civ games aren't really the type of game you want to get return, 5 will improve anyway, unless you want to buy it 6 months for half the price or something.

Well the topicstarted hasn't used the key yet, right?
Otherwise he doesn't have any chance of a refund, no. But I reckon the topicstarter didn't use his key yet (otherwise he wouldn't open this topic).

Can't return a steam game.

Take it back to the store and say the game did not work. Possibly due to the little scratch visible on the DVD. There is a little scratch visible on the DVD isn't there?

Usually they will allow you to exchange the game for something else. But they will rarely if ever refund your money.
