Return/Refunding Civ 5

And thats the problem with DRM.

I suppose no one else remembers the days when you could buy a game, and then return or sell it if you didnt like it or once you were done with it.

you can't. you opened it, you're stuck with it.

Seriously, no one budges on those policies for a reason- they can't resell it.

Not only resell it, they dont know whether you are just buying it, copying it and then returning it.

If you played it, that means its activated on steam. If you bought a boxed copy, you might have bought it from a retailer stupid enough to accept a return on a completely useless item.

None? Thing is: Once you've opened it, people can't be sure whether you have installed it or not.

And since the first install ties the game to your Steam account forever, it means that after the first install, it's impossible to return/resell it - since it's yours for life (or until Steam goes bankrupt or something).

Note that, as long as you hang on to your Steam account, you can re-download the game as often as you want.

Cheers, LT.

I don't think they took me seriously when I asked to be refunded. I bought it at Best Buy and they don't accept returns for opened software. Really though, the license isn't linked to the media it's linked to my Stream account. Can't they just disable this game from my account and give me my hard-earned dollars back?

EDIT: They = 2K Games

I like Civ5, but I sympathize with the desire for a refund. Sadly, you're hosed. I spent countless hours trying to get a refund for AVP and nearly ended up getting my Steam account banned for harassing them so much. It's a battle that cannot be won.

Despite feeling like Civ5 is just a patch or two from being easily worth what I spent I cannot help but feel sympathy for any fellow gamer that wants a refund.

I guess this is what I get for making an impulse purchase. If I had played the demo I would never have bought this game. It's such a catch-22 that the publisher can slap the name of a well-known PC gaming classic on a crappy game and I have no recourse as the consumer.
