I agree. It would be different if the ai upgraded their ships' stealth to the same level that the player can, where you can't see the ship even in the next tile, but they don't. Edit:They might be viable in a Engine, Laser, Sensor build however. I've not used lasers very much myself, but from what I have seen of them they're very good at penetrating, so you could just use sensors and the no range limit wonder to kill everyone - albeit rather slowly - from across the map and behind cover. This way you wouldn't have to worry about devoting resources to fighters. Plus this method seems a little less risky.
