    Yep. Hamstalfar.

This is the module that I've been working on lately. Full details in this blog post.

Feel free to discuss it. For now, I'm going to bed.

Oh dear... that's all I have to say. ;)

Wait, is their hero Minsk the ranger berserker by any chance?

Wow, I have been waiting to see something like this forever.
Also, I like the hunter = skirmisher approach.
I can't wait to see how our two armies meat on the field of battle.

    Ave Hamstalfar!

PS. While reading the blog post, I recommend listening to Viking Metal... the combination is just... mind boggling.

I tried to make it a competitive civilization, so I'd hope most would.

And no, I am not bilingual, besides a few phrases. Recognized the first three words, there. Always wanted to learn German, but of the massive German side of my family (Mother is one of 12 children; I don't even know how many cousins I have), I only speak to 2 of my uncles. And they speak English already.

Nope, though people campaigned for that I didn't think it would fit; Humor was too obvious.

Yep, the whole skirmisher idea let me take the traditional Elven roles, and twist them into something unique. Took me longer to come up with what to do with archery, before thinking of siege as just super-sized archery.

Well, to be fair Tarq knows about the leader. Same way he asked me first, I asked him first. Though he doesn't know what the leader looks like yet. :p

Now, for those wondering about art: The majority of it is simply Ljos or Svart art. They use the Ljos cityset. However, there is a bit of unique art; Don't have a picture of their siege equipment (ballista, and a relative of the Organ Gun), but I do have one of the Eagle Hunter and the Hamster Commander.

    Leaders:

    • You all know what my avatar looks like, no need to link that one.
    • Tarquelne:
      • Meant to look a bit old, and power-hungry (few elves have much power in their society; The fact that he does is exceptional)
      • Spoiler :
    • Elder Malasa
      • I just love this picture.
      • Spoiler :
    Units:

    • Eagle Hunter:
      • Hamster is mounted to the head of the hawk; Meaning that as the hawk flies, attacks, etc, the hamster will remain in the same position on the hawk and look good.
      • Spoiler :
    • Hamster Commander:
      • This one is also mounted to the head; Started on the shoulder bone, but then he spun crazily when the unit attacked. As it is, he floats a bit; But he's small enough that you don't pick it out.
      • Spoiler :
    Civilization Page:

    • This is an old pic, mostly showing it to show the banner. It's where the idea for the Eagle Hunter came; Was looking for a good banner, found this guy's artwork, and decided the idea was amazing.
    • Spoiler :

One more thing: They still need a worldspell. Feel free to suggest one.

    WTB Non-hamster version

I like the idea, but I don't think I could play a civilization based off hamsters (unless they were the dire bear hamster type of earlier versions that multiplied when they killed stuff. :p)

I don't know why but the more I read this thread the more the Hamsters remind me of the Artreides from Dune.

For some reason, I am unsure if they rule good because they are good, or because they know that good rulers get devotion and respect that will keep them in power.

    Not happening.

That said, the only places you'll see hamsters are:

    1. The leader - But you don't see that if you're playing as him.
    2. The hero - But the main thing you see is the hawk. Have to look close to see the hamster.
    3. The Eagle Hunters - Same deal as the hero, all you see is the hawk, really.
    4. The Hamster Commander - Main thing you see is the elf. Have to look closely to see the hamster.
    5. The Hamstertruppen - The one unit that is entirely hamster. They are also very close to the unit you mentioned, though they don't reproduce after combat.
As I said in the post, hamsters are very rare. Mostly because I opted not to use them as combat troops. If you ignore the assassin, you can play the entire game ignoring the hamsters.

That's a good question... And is likely a mix of both, though more the first than the second.

Note that aside from Malasa, they are neutral.

Woops, realized I forgot to say what mana types they have.

    Law, Creation, and Nature.

In regards to worldspells... I can't think of any effects, but the following idea for a name crawled into my head and won't go away: "The Guidance of the Fuzzy!". I dunno. Maybe it could boost the xp gain of all units for a time, as Elves throughout the nation are guided and raised by their hamster overlords.

World spell: Take heart fellow adventurers, for you have curried the favor of Boo, the only miniature giant space hamster in the Realm!

Summons Boo, the only miniature giant space hamster on Erebus. Boo lends his experience off world to the empire, initiating two golden ages back to back.

I'm trying to minimize the whole hamster thing, you know. The "Hall of Wheels" was originally the "Exercise Wheel".

And Boo will not feature. At all. Too obvious.

I don't know why you want to minimize the hamster thing.
It's the coolest bit of it all. And if you really think that they are not Grim-Dark TM for RiFE you can always go with my post...

I mean, it makes sense does it not? And the whole hall of wheels thing... I have read it and it screams Orwellian to me for some reason...
It just sounded so sinister... and cool.

And their world spell should be something that sinergises with their lore, maybe something like that ritual that upgrades terrain in your lands.

Your family is big? It does makes sense... you know... hamsters, well... are breeders with big families.. Watch out for that!.

I was thinking about: "Cease fire horn" or something of the like. For 30 turns (Timed like Stasis or Sanctuary or Arcane Lacuna) all the wars are stopped and nobody can fight to anyone. Just HN units can do their job. Good effect for WS, what do you think?

OR, alternatively, a spell that increases the yield of all worked tiles on your territory, perhaps permanently (or not).

Hey, what about something along the lines of the Orbis Palinates world spell?
    X gold per improvement (Farm?)
Y chance to spawn some units per improvement?
Z chance for improvements to discover resource etc.

Would be interesting to have a spell that gives some Hamstertruppen and Eagle Hunters for free while providing a few other smaller bonuses.

Well, mostly because I want people to play it, and I know there are those who will be unable to get past the hamsters.

And I don't want them upgrading terrain, honestly; They should rely on trade.

No, my mother's family is big. I only have the one brother.

I don't really care for either of those, at least for the Hamstalfar.

Probably not, but it did give me an idea.

    How about something like this:

    • For X turns, all cities gain Y traderoutes and +Z% trade profits
Has a nice synergy with their playstyle, gets better as the game goes on (any worldspell should), and could be quite powerful.
