Revolution: with BarbarianCiv, Rebellion, AIAutoPlay

I agree with Phungus, this mod is way too hard at the early stages. Just having a fourth city on the opposite side of a small island on noble guarentees empire-wide rebellion, even when all the citizens in all cities are happy - this doesn't make any sense. In the end revolutions engulfed my entire empire. Is there any way to disable this mod from affecting the player, and to only affect the AI?

If you really want to ...

HumanIndexModifier = 0.0

in Revolution.ini. If you're getting empire wide revolts there has to be another factor though, most likely having a low science slider (ie high taxes). The whole revolt launching system is being reworked also so you will have a much better idea when revolts are coming and why in the future.

Thanks for the quick reply. I think the problem is that I was growing my empire so fast before I had luxuries, buildings, technology and relgion. I like playing games with 34 players on standard sized maps, so the restrictions on empires really cramp my style.

Its easy to deal with a large spread-out empire later on, when your units can respond to revolutionary barbarians more quickly, and you can build culture and spread religion.

The effects on the AI are great though - seeing empires rise and fall really spices up the usually stale game :)

Just a little request from me:

Other civ's dynamic names are listed in the scoreboard when you mouse-over the civ in question. Any chance that that can also happen when you mouse over your own civ?

First of all, GREAT mod! I can't play without anymore.

I must say I didn't read all of the 70 pages before this one so maybe this question is a bit.. stupid. I'm playing this mod merged with RoM 2 and most of the time we go for multiplayer games. When revolution or warning arrive, all players have the warning and options screen belonging the the city revolting.. all players can virtually choose what they want to do.. isn't that a bit weird?

Second question, let say my neightbour have trouble with a city next to my borders.. is there anything you could do to make the situation worst/better? Spies ok, but I mean does this mod propose something of it's own? bribe opponent cities, propaganda, attract people in your own cities..?

thanks again for this mod!

The mod is not yet multiplayer compatible ... it may be at some point, but I definitely plan to change at least the popup method.

There will soon be many more options for causing trouble in opponents cities and supporting revolts in other civs. Spy missions are the one thing you can instigate right now, in the future I may add another spy mission or augment the existing missions. The future add-ons will be instigated by the rebels, they'll ask you for assistance and you can choose how to respond.

Glad you enjoy the mod!

Thanks for your answer.

I think the mod is not far from being compatible with multiplayer games.
We plan 3 players LAN here and works well most of the time.. some OOS sometimes but after reconnection it ususally works again. A fully compatible version would be awesome of course!

Great news about future developments.. sound good so far.
Revolution add many possibilities in fact.. what do you think of a propaganda stuff? in the area of printing press, a new tech could give access to a new civic maybe and which would unlock the built of a propaganda tower or such causing troubles in border cities..? just a tought.. ;)

1st: Thank you for this mod. It is a superb development of Civ 4. I only play mods based around your work, ever. Bravo!

2nd: Will you have to change the name of this mod, due to the offcial Civ:Revolution coming out? Maybe change it to 'Rebellion'?

3rd: Due to your mod's style & nature, would you not include the Riot Police unit, created by The Navy Seal, available here:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=5819

4th: I love this mod; the only thing that bugs me is the loading screen. I work a lot with Photoshop, so I took it upon myself to provide you with 3 new screens! ONLY if you want :)

4 are finished, the last is in the works. Any comments and feedback would be greatly appreciated. I can do up to five, or more. Is it possible to add a python script that selects a random image when loading? All images will be resized and in .dds format, etc, of course.

Version 1: Based on the Royalist revolt in the Vendeé during the French Revolution.

Version 2: Enhanced and cleaned up development of the original loading screen:

Version 3: Russian revolution, with Lenin giving it yards.

Version 4: Uses an image of Georgian riot police; look a bit absurd, yet scary at the same time.

in that last screenshot the riot police helmet looks like something you would see if there was a riot in disneyland.

Wow, awesome graphics! I love the first three, the fourth one with the riot police helmet is just too strange ... it really does look comical even if it would actually be scary in real life. Please do finalize them and make them into .dds, that would be awesome!

I have no idea whether they can be chosen randomly, but I will investigate ... assuming something can be made to work, having one or two that were pre-gunpowder would really flush out the set. I did a quick google search, here's some things you might find useful:

Rome burning

Destruction

I really wanted to find some hieroglyphic or medieval looking painting of a revolt but couldn't.

Murals and graffiti could also be cool for a modern era screen, a few interesting ones:

Che

Che 2

Club

Mob

Riot police

Mexican revolution

And also these riot cops and the tianamen square guy

Great! Thanks!

Ok, i have 2 more:

Riot Police alternate:

Russian Salt Riots:

Sorry for the late reply; I have a few more possibles for riots but theyre fairly dramatic and blunt...

What about adding that police mod? :)

HDK

Those look fantastic, thanks for tracking down a great medieval image! I like that the riot image leaves the blunt brutality of these kinds of conflicts to the imagination while still showing the force and chaos, it's a good choice.

I've been asked about the riot police unit before, it's something I'm thinking about. It would feel a little weird to me to have riot police combat units though ... they (usually) are trained in non-lethal methods and would not really be effective against anything but unruly mobs.

My thought was instead to increase the Revolution calming effects of jails, perhaps by adding a new kind of specialist that would mainly reduce Revolution effects and turns in disorder or something.

I think the very first pic is hands down the best one... it's got a lot going on referencing different important revolutionary moments in history, and the image quality is also very good while some of the other ones (while creative and interesting) are not really great quality.

Great :)
I agree Dom pedro; I think i will layer more references into each image.

I think the possibility of a python script that loads random or in sqequence images when loading is the way to go....

It would feel a little weird to me to have riot police combat units though ...

Yah thats what I thought as well; so to include it I gave them a combat value of 4, quite expensive to build, only defensive, no defensive bonus, increased the effect of the anti rioting promotion. They could only be built by a scotland yard, with a max of 6 units.

EDIT:
New pic added, from Tianamen Sq....

There's a pack of Earth maps which will work available ... maps have to have the same number of player slots defined as the DLL, 34 by default for this mod. You can also get an 18civ DLL for this mod which can then be used with any standard map.

HDK:

The Tianamen Sq one is awesome!

Well, I think the first one with the Constitution overlay has gotten the most votes so far. I also really like the Tianamen Sq one, so maybe those two?

I'm not sure which would be my third pick ... I like the time period spread the salt riot one would add, but I wonder if it would look pixelated at higher resolution. The other candidate is the Lenin one which I like, even though it's not quite as immediately recognizable of an image for me (I wouldn't have known what it was of without your caption). If you want to do one of those or another one that's your favorite, that'd be awesome ... up to you.

Thanks so much!
