RFC: Rise of the Soviet Union

Awesome, you must really be watermill-spamming

Yes Watermill spamming is the key to a sucessful communist nation, Brazil, with all those amazon rivers should really become communist and cut down all the jungle for watermills, although they would have green peace trying to stop them the whole way.

About Vladivostok, i decided that if i was going to use worldbuilder to remove alot of the Marshes on the Amur and add grassland, then messing a little bit with Sapporo's culture with it wouldn't make much of a difference. So I just set the culture back to 10, I just did not seem very historical for it to want to join Japan. I could understand them getting it from a congress, or them conquering it, but not from culture.

COMMUNIST BRAZIL!!!!!!!!!
:king::king::spear::spear:

Of coarse because, Why not? They wouldn't have had to move the capital to Brazilia because of the no distance penalty. It has the greatest possible benefit to the country, it is just that the Americans kept demanding in the Cold war for people to adopt free market.

Now I have no idea why North Korea is Communist, at most they can have two cities, Pyongyang and Chongjin, and in the whole 6 tiles they have (they had seven before the Americans culture bombed South Korea) Only one can have a watermill, and that is on a silk, though I think Kim Jong Il would have teared it up to put watermill... that is if China hadn't built a watermill next to it!)

Okay that is enough comparing real life countries to Civ in a Satirical way, I have to stop procrastinating so that i can do my homework and so that i can stop procrastinating from making the next update.

I am wondering what cities i should build the National Wonders in, I want them to have some historical Soviet or Russian Empire reason for being there as well as being the best city to build them in.

I am thinking the Ironworks should be built in Stalingrad, it is named after the Man of Steel afterall, and was stubbornly able to fight off the Nazis. The City has Iron and Coal in its radius, wheat and Sheep for food, and three Plains hills. If i build the improvements with with maximum food output,(except Iron and Coal, all flatlands have farms, hills windmills, and deserts watermills where applicable) with Biology and State property, the food output will be 48, so 24 citizens, working 18 tiles (2 are non river deserts) gives 6 specialists, all engineers. (1 from forge, 2 from Factory, 3 from Ironworks) With railroads on the mines and electricity connected, with forge, factory and Iron works, and 6 engineers, the city will have base production of 42, and total production of 126.

But Moscow is able to do it with Pop 26, working 20 tiles with 6 engineers, and production of 53, or 159 with all the bonuses.

Kiev can have 26 pop, working 20 tiles, with 6 engineers. Max Production is 61, for grand total of 183, but this takes away valuable tiles from Minsk.

However I beleive all the National wonders should be in Russia proper, and in European russia if possible.

So i think Leningrad should be commerce/research oriented (as they go together) So Interpol is being built there, because the city has always been russia gateway to europe, so it is fitting for spys to come from there, as well it will be easy to load them onto subs from there, as well as trading company for the Extra traderoutes, and Stock Exchange for the bonus money, i will also try to build the Channel Tunnel wonder and any other wonder that will produce great merchants or great scientists.

I think Moscow should be culture so National Gallery and Opera house so I could put in lots of artists, it already has Kremlin so that should help make great artists, as well as any wonders that produce great artists. I need to know if the Palace counts as 1 of the 3 national wonders I am allowed, and if not, if adding the Triumphant arch automaticaly in when I either finish the Appolo program or never loose a city before 1950 will create problems as the city will have mroe than 3 national wonders.(By the way i think i might aswell go for the UHV, considering the last one is just common sense and i already finished the first)

Spoiler :

Stalingrad should be Production, so Ironworks and I will try to build the Pentagon as well as any other Wonder that produces great engineers, except the Three gorges dam, which I want to build In Novosibirsk because I have more cities that could benefit from it in Asia than in Europe, and considering that the River Novosibirsk is on is the Mighty Ob near near its moutainous source, while Stalingrad is on a vast plain, with a dam not making much pratical sense when it would flood many square kilometers of steppe.

Just a little peice of information. Volgograd was originaly named Tsaricyn before Stalin took power, that is what i am guessing Caricyn means.

The forbbiden palace is it Ekatherineburg, and the summer palace is in Irkutsk, providing 3 centers of government spaced out equaly.

I still need locations for the Red cross, anyone know of a place where foreign medical aid was given to the Soviet Union, preferably a decent production site so that i could make use of the free promotion.

Olympic park should probaly be where the Soviets once hosted the Olympics, unfortunately that is Moscow which is approaching 5 national wonders now, and Sochi does not exist, though it could be Sevastopol which is closest. However i think we should decide on where the Soviets would host the winter games if they still existed in 2014. It would have to be only a few tiles from moutains, or at least a cluster of hills and near the artic (So not in Uzbekistan)

Okay, the update is coming, just slowly, i keep getting distracted just looking at the empire and wondering which farms should be converted to watermills once commuism takes hold of the mother land, or how much food will be needed for the city on the edge of tundra to work all the tundra tiles with either watermills or lumbermills. I should feel like planning for communism before it arrives isn't role playing like a Tsar, but I just can't help it, the civic State Property was made for russia, with all the glorious rivers and vast tracts of land.

the whatchamacallit penninsula (your only "free" port not blocked), its near mountains, its coastal, and its all tundra

No Petro isn't the only port that is not blocked, it is the only one that has no chance of being blocked, if Japan settled there, as i have seen them do some times, then all my ports would be blocked, but since i have Petro, Magadan and Khabarovsk have acess, Petro is a good place holder, so that i will be able to speedily launch a nuke and carrier supported marine landing on the american west coast (that is if they get there even) and 'liberate' the americans from the capitalists:lol:

Unforunately, it would take forever to build the Olympic park in Petro, I havn't even been able to build a Theater to give culture yet, I was thinking Ekatherineburg would be a good choice, since it has the Urals for skiing, and their is Tundra only about 3 tiles away, so when it is winter, it is safe to assume that there will be snow there, as opposed to vancouver where they had to airlift in snow, that is what i meant by close to tundra. However we have over 100 game years to decide on where to host the 2014 olympics, so keep giving your suggestions!

Update is being written as we speak, i will probaly have it by tomorow, it only covers 5turns, but the game was good to me and gave me something interesting to write about

I lied.

“In 1855, Nicholas the 1st died, at the age of 81, hi son, Alexander the second took over at the age of 30. He wanted was the first Tsar to consider emancipating the serfs, but the greedy landowners stopped him. Instead he look at the vast empire he inherited, and saw that the Sun never truly set on his empire, when it was dusk in what is now Leningrad, the sun would just be rising in Petropavlosk. Many imperialist saw that having an empire on which the sun never set was an asset, but Alexander II saw the vast time required to traverse his country as a liability. He had heard of great Iron Horses that traverse Western Europe (Actually I could only see 1 railway tile in Europe, on the coal in Wales but the principal is the same he heard about railways from Europe) He heard that they were much faster than real horse and that they ran on coal. He imported the steam engine into Russia and told his engineers to replicate it. He learnt that the Iron horses had to run on rails made from steel. No other country would give Russia any raw steel because of Mercantilism. They would only ever sell finished products than were more expensive; seeming to think that gold was more useful to their nation than the products they built benefit their nation. He got his scientists to try to reverse engineer the imported steel products. While coal had always been plentiful in Russia, the people never saw its use other than burning, and so no large scale mining had ever taken place, as wood was much more abundant and wide spread as a fuel source in the motherland, but the steam engine needed coal to work, wood did not provide long lasting fuel, and so a steam run machine would have to carry more than it could to keep going, but coal had a high weight to energy ratio. Coal itself was prehistoric vegetation that was pressurized underground for millennia. He wanted to see a railway run from what was then Petrograd all the way to Vladivostok.”

Now some candidates for the OMG look what happened thread.

Gandhi liked it so much in South Africa he decided to build an Indian city there.

The Americans decided to liberate the Irish from the English, while the English have some Norway, while they neglected to build colonies elsewhere.

Those three settlers are French and they are on Iceland. I think the French wanted to build a city there, but it wasn’t in there map so they waited till they were stable enough to build it but the AI doesn’t really coordinate what they are trying to do with itself so they put more settlers there because they thought “let’s build a city there” but ran into the same problem. I once, in a different game, had Spain build Murcia where the settlers are, got angry at the lack of history in that so moved the City to Reykjavik with World builder, and guess what Spain did? They built another city in Iceland 1 east of the settlers. The only explanation to that is that they were trying to block Germany or Russia from having access to the open ocean. (Reykjavik needs to expand twice for that)

Anyway I decided that I was going to emulate Stalin’s forced industrialization through slavery (as that was how he did it in a way) so to save anarchy I am just going to switch to slavery as a “temporary” measure during the 1917 revolution. (As I think even Lenin sent some people to work camps, just not as many and for actual reasons, as opposed to Stalin) Then finally when I have judged that all the Kulaks are gone then emancipation will be the labour civic. (Probably if Stalin was immortal like Civ leaders are he would never have judged that all the Kulaks were gone and would have kept hunting them down even when the only people who were not in work camps were the people searching for people to send to work camps, but thankfully he wasn’t and to this day there are still people in Russia.)

“In 1856 Alexander II was told that his empire was at war with Japan. He was not aware of this until then. After Fushun was burned only the Chinese made any offensives, and so he assumed his father had ended the war with Japan. He began to contemplate the construction of a pacific fleet, which would be the only fleet the Russians had at the time. The navy before then consisted of a Frigate in the Black sea to chase down Pirates. By royal decree in 1858 the first Pacific ship was commissioned to be built in Vladivostok. This was the also the year that the Caliphate of Persia seized control of the Shiite population of Islam from the ashes of the Arabic Sunni caliphate. The Russian empire under Catherine had pillaged the Persian countryside, and so the Persians were not friendly to Alexander II. He was paranoid at another long border between Russia and Persia and so he started to build up troops in the West Asian states.”

“Alexander II felt that Germany could not be trusted, and so he signed agreements of mutual defense with England and France, the triple Entente. He canceled the defensive pact with Germany and began hoping that Germany would be stuck it a 2 front war should they ever attack.” (France and England haven’t signed a pact yet, and a curios thing about England’s pact was they wouldn’t agree to it unless I gave them copper. I decided to negotiate this and got them to send me 8 gold per turn for it, strange that they had to attach a trade deal. Spain is still alive, but I lost contact with them before Embassies so I can’t contact them, so I don’t know their diplomatic situation. I am hoping that they have a defensive pact with Germany so that I could start World War 1 as a reason for the Bolsheviks revolution. I checked the progress of America with world builder, and the Spanish built Santa Fe, San Luis and San Antonio, thereby cutting America from the Pacific, I want to have a strong America to have a nice cold war with but unless the Spanish get Declared on by America, or gets owned in WW1, another reason for me wanting Germany and Spain to have an alliance, it isn’t likely they will reach the pacific.)

It seems that in the congress nations that I had no contact with weren’t invited. Is this normal, or is it that I just can’t see their votes.

“In 1866 a world congress was called by the new nation of Persia, they claimed that the lands Catherine took from Arabia were rightfully theirs and their allies. It was a congress that started the Russo-Japanese war and the Alexander, now age 41, took a very neutral and cautious stance in the congress, even if the congress was called specifically against them. Alexander II knew he had the support of China no matter what, and that France would support them because of their long standing defensive agreements, and a common anxiety towards Germany. The Japanese would most definitely vote against Russia no matter what, and the Indo-Persian Alliance both hated Russia and its ally China because they were in an alliance, which balanced out their alliance. Germany voted against Russia in the last congress, and it was only Tsar Nicholas I diplomatic skills that prevented them from declaring war, and instead honouring the defensive pact they shared, but Alexander II distrusted Bismarck, the German leader, and camcelled the age-old defensive pact with the Holy Roman Empire, now the Federal republic of Germany was not bound to do anything, and would most likely vote against Russia. England was a trickier matter, they had good relations with Russia, but they also had good relations with pretty much the whole world, so they were the Wild card, they would probably abstain, but the English vote was necessary to block the Indo-Persia alliance vote with the hatred vote of Japan and the spite vote of Germany. Alexander II decided to not demand anything; firstly because another city meant another place to defend, second he did not want to aggravate any nation.”

“Despite the fact the Congress was called over the rights to west Asia, the other powers were quick to change the topic to suit their own interests. The British demanded Brest from France, Alexander II did not want to aggravate either so he abstained from that vote. The only England supported her demand, she really did not have any reason to demand it other than to control the English Channel or that the City was located in Brittany, which did not win over votes."

“In turn the French demanded the British cede the island of Barbados to France, this demand was supported by other nations as the French had some claim to the Caribbean. The British may not have been particularly loved by everybody, even though they loved everybody, while it seemed the French were loved the Chinese and Japanese even if the French did not love them, because when Japan demanded that they would gain control of the Port of Singapore, the French did abstained and every other nation abstained while the Sino-Russian Alliance voted against it. Then the Germans demanded the old Roman city of Dyrachium. They claimed to have a right to it as the rightful heirs of the Holy Roman Empire, which were the rightful heirs of the Roman Empire. Being Grand Heirs did not convince most nations, so they abstained. Alexander II, however voted against them, he had planned to not antagonize anybody, except his enemies. The relations between the Germans and Russians had been falling out since the end of the Holy roman empire, and only the forced war with Japan kept them together, but when Germany got peace with Japan, they canceled trade deals with Russia, and Russia canceled the defensive pact, and now Russia voted against them.”

“After Germany came the turn of the host, Persia. They demanded Baku, as it was once Arabian, and the Persians saw themselves as a continuation of that Caliphate. The Persians had yet to establish relations with most of the world and so they only got the vote of their ally, and the Hatred vote of Japan. The Germans abstained from this vote, perhaps because they knew Persia wouldn’t win because he knew Europe would vote in favor of Alexander II, and didn’t want to alienate itself from its continent. Then the ally of Russia, China demanded the Japanese cede back Sapporo, which the Chinese had briefly conquered when they were pillaging the Japanese country side, only to have Japan capture it right back, but still they did control it at one time, and so had a right to it. The Indo-Persian Alliance voted in favour of Japan, and so they outnumbered the Sino-Russian alliance and the request did not pass at the congress.”

“Everyone had made demands, and now it was India’s turn, the Russian expected the same result as the Persian demand…”

“The Indo-Persian alliance, with the support of fanatical Japan voted for India, while the Sino-Russian alliance with the support of France voted against it. Victoria was major trading partners with both, and so abstained from voting. Knowing that England would probably do this, Germany supported India. Tensions flared at the congress, with delegates throwing insults at each other, it was of no use, they all had to wait on the decision Alexander II would make; whether to let the province of Tajikistan go, or to defy the congress and possibly face war with the Indo-Persian alliance, and even Germany.”

Invade china :mwaha:

I might be facing a 3 front war, and you want me to invade my ally? Did you look at the pic in the spoiler, i think it might be a little too discreet.

On a side note, i had the option to demand Qara Qorum, but I decided that Russia is big enough and i should let the Soviets do anymore expansion, and It makes more historical sense for China to have it before the revolution. The other cities i could of demanded were; Qandahar, Sinope, Hadrianopolis and Budapest on the deer,

Baku might be an option for the olympics, i think the Caucausus are high enough to be covered with snow all year long, good option. I think i make a pole for it when the time comes.

So far the Options are:
Ekaterineburg
Baku

I would have taken it, if i was the soviet union, but i am still the Russian empire, and they never owned that. It is important for the story later for Stalin to have something to run over with tanks.

I just have to ask, what are peoples thoughts on the congress giving Tajikistan to India. I don't intend to give it away, so i will face war, but that also means China, France and England will come to my aid. I say that if germany declares war on me, then that is going to be World war 1, which will make the people angry enough to rise up in a communist revolution. However, even if i am at war with Germany, for the sake of the story I can't conquer all of germany. I can raze Memel, which would make Minsk's culture extend into the baltic states, and I capture Hammerfest and give it to either england or france (as this is not in the soviet union,) I will raze Lulea, since Hammerfest gets the meatal resources there, and so I could build Oulu as the soviets to symbolize the what if senario of a Finnish S.S.R. Since Murmansk was built during World war 1 as a port, that means i could build it earlier than it is suspose to be there because the reason it was built is there.

The war will not end till the communist revolution!

I say, keep Tajikistan.
It will really be a two front war for you, the Persian border and the German border. Maybe Japan DOW on you but I don't really think you have much to fear from them.
For the other to borders... Germany will be distracted by France and England.. The Chinese might come to your aid at the Persian border but I think you can hold that on your own if necessary...

In Historical context. I doubt the Tsars would have agreed to a deal were India would get one of there cities

"Up To"? Once you turn Communist, I say keep going until you hit Portugal!

португалия упадет на родину! :crazyeye:

Refuse! Use those troops you've been gathering there. Anyways, your defensive pact with France and England still stands right? That means Germany is going to be stuck on a 2 front war while you get to play "beat Persia into the dust". Anyways, you would've had to taken the city back sooner or later, why even give it away in the first place?

:agree: He excellently completed my argument

There are a lot of blood lusting readers here who don't appreciate the historical value of this story :p
