Rise And Fall Of Empires

Clarification on Economics:

Your factories that are idle produce money that you receive next turn. IE if you have 5 idle factories and $40 you cannot spend $50, but next turn you begin with $10.

Also, I have people who have talked to me about UUs and have not stated in their orders that they are researching these UU - or anything else. Just a reminder in case people forgot.

-L

I'm still going to use mine but more pressing concerns have arose.

Ilduce - Last turn your factories gave you $40. Any that you leave idle this turn contribute to next turn's money. So you'll have 20IP and $4 next turn, but only 20IP and $40(plus loan) this turn.

To: Wehrmacht Empire
From: North Badustan

Who are you to make such a demand? The Democratic Union of Badustan has no need to sacrifice its sovereignty to you!

-L

It is not wise to disregard the Wehrmacht empire so easily, Badustan! You should reconsider your position, in the middle of a civil war, with the mighty Wehrmacht forces getting closer to your pitiful nation every day. Think wisely.

Secret Message To: South Badustan
From: Wehrmacht Empire

Our Badustanian brothers! Join us in the Wehrmachtian Empire, as one of our protectorate states! Do so, and you will receive full military support against the North Badustanians, and will annex all of their territory. Consider our offer carefuly.

~Heimlich von Tsargard, Wehrmachtian Ambassador to the Badustanian States

I think he has to research it before he can partake in its overpoweredness.

How did the Diclonus EVER come to be involved in this conflict? This is just about as far away from your central position as somewhere could be on Christos, yet you still stick your nose in it. Just stay out of it. The FAF does not deal in slaves, as Slavery is of an age that is past. We will never submit our people to such a fate.

What have you got against slaves? And for that matter, what do you put your feet up on?

Black Water: Richard doesn't give a flying peasant corpse about the oceans. Trade with him and you can continue to be seen with apathy.

Diclonius, Sharkpoint, and Free Cities: same deal, cept Richard won't freeze your children if you don't trade.

If I made an infantry, would I only lose 1IP this turn or as long as it's alive?

Machine Cultists Land on Hiskalah
January 2nd, 1933

By August Sonereal
Galifray Times

GALIFRAY (Area #1) - The Cult of the Machine has announced that two Patriarch's Revolutionary Guard divisions have landed on the eastern tip of Hiskalah in the Copper Hills region, south of the United Duchies of the Silver Hills. This marks the first time since the Great War that the Cult has expressed interest in the world beyond the Archipelago. Many analysts see the selection of the new Supreme Patriarch, Fredrick Baskerville, as being a driving influence behind this and the other changes within the theocratic state.

Background

During the Great War, the Cult of the Machine fought on the side of the Central Powers. Unlike many powers during the war, the Cult wasn't militarily crushed but suffered political and economic defeat. Nearing the end of the war, the Patriarch's Revolutionary Guard, the Supreme Patriarch's Army, staged a coup against Supreme Patriarch Douglas Gerald. At the time, the Galifray Archipelago had been on the ten month of a tight submarine blockade. The coup, led by Colonel Ronald Featherston, stripped Gerald of his position and placed him under house arrest until the day he died (July 13th, 1929). Colonel Ronald Featherston and the PRG helped push through democratic reform. While the Supreme Patriarch still holds disproportionate power compared to the legislative and executive branch, the judicial branch has proven able to restrain the power of the Patriarch. Ronald Featherston became the Supreme Patriarch, signed a peace treaty with the Cult's enemies, and isolated the nation for over a decade until his death in 1932. The House of the Machine Spirit selected Fredrick Baskerville as the next Supreme Patriarch.

The Wehrmacht Empire expresses little interest in the invasion of the United Duchies.

I have updated my orders.

In addition, I have some ideas for zombie units for nanotech and biotech countries:
Traditional Zombie: 1 IP/$5 for 4 of this kind of Zombie
Mobility: 0
Firepower: 0.2
Resilience: 0.2
Accuracy: 0
Ammo: None needed
Description: A biotech creation. Your traditional shambling zombie, this cheap unit is good as a meatshield for your Behind the Lines Capability units. In unison with Shatterers, however, this unit may end up being a unstoppable regenerating rush of destruction, due to its Zombie Plague ability.
Abilities:
Zombie Plague

In addition, here is the Zombie Ability:
Zombie Plague: if a unit with this ability destroys an opposing one, another one of the unit with this ability is automatically created.

The aforementioned Shatterer:
Shatterer: 2 IP/$10

Mobility: 0
Firepower: 0.9
Durability: 2
Accuracy: 0
Ammo: 2
Description: A unit designed to assist with a Traditional Zombie army, by weakening an opponent so the Zombie can finish the unit off and create another Zombie. However, it may be built by any tech path, if they decide to research it.

What do you guys think of my idea?

Did you send your ideas to LH? Otherwise, you can't set your stats exactly like that.

Also, screw decimals.

Just ideas that you guys may want to research, so I'm putting them out there.

First of all, no decimals.

Secondly, I certainly dont want you telling me what to research, so I will assume that others dont as well. if they do, do it outside of this thread. I will research whatever the heck I want, thank you.

Thirdly, these are...under priced for the kind of capability a nation would require in order to enable these, would cost enormous amounts to research, basically the same strength or even less than a normal infantry, and almost completely pointless.

UUs are meant to give you BETTER units, not worse ones, even if they are meant for flavor (or so I assume).

Also, you really aren't supposed to give LH in-game stats for the units. he decides those after debating the thing's relative combat effectiveness vs the technology your nation possesses and the global technology base.

You describe the unit to him, or do what I did: set basic guidelines for the unit to possess and leave my science freaks to it.

@Arya: UUs are supposed to be better than Generic, or to simply fit that player's tactical bias better. That Zombie would be pretty fearsome if and only if building "one" spawned something like 12.

@Nonevah: Units aren't decided in advance. You describe it to LH as if you were talking to your scientists, and stuff goes from there. The stats are decided via empirical examination of how the unit would fare on the battlefield.

Ah nuke, i think that really clears it up. I was also under the impression that we made the stats ourselves, as you 'appeared' to do it that way when you made your own. There was no evidence of you going through a process with LH, and so some people had no idea of knowing that was what happened behind the scenes. Thanks for the revelation.

I'm really sorry. I failed to quote the PM stream proper, assuming people would see that it was a conversation. There aren't as many PMs in the stream as there would be for probably most of the rest of you cause I can debate that with LH IRL.

for the record, I was trying to steer the design towards something like that result. Like this:

1xTurret-mounted 37mm cannon(elevates from -10 to +55)
1xcoaxial 5.56mm machinegun(elevates from -10 to +55)
1x 5.56mm machinegun(forward-facing, elevates from -10 to +25, yaws from -5 to +5)

This block of design requirements implies minimal AA ability and the capacity to engage multiple targets, as well as versatility as to the orientation of the vehicle related to the target. Namely: Accuracy

1/4" steel armor
1x spare tire
1x toolbox
road speeds of 65KP/H
room for 2-4 passengers

This one implies reliability, speed, and maneuverability given that the unit is a four-wheeled car. I.E., Mobility.

Additionally, the use of already existing technology and simplistic requirements implies mass production capacity.

For the interested, here's the properly quoted PM stream:

Valeria would like to develop a new type of fighting vehicle, which shall inspire the world:

This vehicle is to be a 4-wheeled car, and is to include:

1xTurret-mounted 37mm cannon(elevates from -10 to +55)
1xcoaxial 5.56mm machinegun(elevates from -10 to +55)
1x 5.56mm machinegun(forward-facing, elevates from -10 to +25, yaws from -5 to +5)
1/4" steel armor
1x spare tire
1x toolbox
road speeds of 65KP/H
room for 2-4 passengers

This vehicle is to be used to quickly take ground from the enemy, and more or less replace the Crawler Tank that is so offends my sensibilities.

Mobility 1
Accuracy 1
Firepower 1
Resilience 1
Ammo 1

There you are, sir! A 2nd-generation would cost about $40.

Huh, thought I was supposed to say stats. Good thing he'll be able to balance it.

Thanks for clearing it all up nuke! that really helps.

Out of interest, would you be interested in a joint-generic research project (JGRP) with our scientists, in order to further the choice of weapons that we can build? This could possibly be part of an OFFICIAL peace treaty between us, as you mentioned that your government technically considers us to still be at war, and could officially end the horror that was the world war, and could be a start to a new era of relative peace and prosperity compared to what happened during the WW.

Sonerealos Colonial Charter

These are the basic rules Sonerealos must follow as a colony of the Machine Cult.

-They must stop expanding when asked too
-No Military
-Only can trade with nations the mother nation trades with

In return, the CotM will give Sonerealos full protection and allow it unrestricted ability to strengthen it's own economy.

Cultist Colonial System

There are several tiers "colonies" we will use over time.

Cult Colony-These are colonies we have granted some autonomy but the governor is still appointed by the Supreme Patriarch
Self-Ruling Colonies-These colonies have democratic bodies and have some representation in the House of the Machine Spirit. However, the colony has no standing military and can only trade with nations we have a trade agreement with. Sonerealos is a SRC.
Dominion-Dominions are colonies that have a long history of positive colonial relation with us. As such, they're granted near-complete autonomy, including the ability to create their own military and trade with whomever they want. The only condition of being a Dominion is that the colony aid the Cult of the Machine in wars.

"Good Afternoon. This is Roi-Pali Taka, here at the KMIL93 National News Network Station, bringing you the 6:00 daily news.

"The Grand Council has begun their daily session early today, due to the rising concerns about global developments. With the World War ten years behind us now, it seems that new tensions are threatening the tenuous peace that has pervaded over Christos. Issues over expansion are threatening to renew conflicts both new and old in Dashki, Hilaska, Uiryo, and Tarnia*. Even more worrisome are the "aggresive intrusions", as High Councilor Isa-Kila Trenai put it, into the continent of Hiskalah by foreign nations. The current majority party, Party of Kishlia, has been calling for greater measures to curb this foreign expansion, such as a stronger military and more alliances. Meanwhile, the main opposition party, the Party of the Republic, has condemned the PoK's response as 'unnecessary and self-destructive jingoism', according to opposition leader Rika-Lia Tioson."
