My first Warlord game was also as Persia- it was...interesting, as I was using worker automation for the entire thing..

:hmm: I never tried warlord myself...I just jumped straight to Regent...The game seems to be going well, for the first turn!

I don't think this was a very legitamate use of a thread.

After one post...

Calm down. I barely had time to post the first post, much less play. Life is busy, so I don't have that much time to play a computer game. I said more was to come later, and it will. For a long time I just played chiefatin because I wanted to easily win. Now, I want to try out the next level (dont laugh , I know many of you are far ahead of mere warlord, but not me) and this thread will hopefully document this.

I'll post later when I actually have time to play many turns.

I dislike automation because the workers always seem to build mines, while I favor larger populations first and later production through city improvements.

 thanks for the encouragment. Hopefully it'll go well later on. I think I'll get pretty far by the end of the week. Untill then this thread will probably re-sink for a day or two..

My first warlord win was with Rome. I must've had four games as the Persians - giving up on them all- before I finally won a warlord win with them on the "The Bay" map. (Domination or diplomatic, can't remember)

I never use automation now- except for shift-p in the modern era where I'm focusing on SS parts and I want to keep the pollution gone.

The worker is two tiles away so I don't think it is the first turn.

Well, both the settler and the worker could've moved from the tile immediately north of the settler...

I moved the worker north onto the river to see if there were any resources nearby, and to cllear up more of the dark space. The settler I moved onto the hill because it was surrounded by good old grassland tiles and this provides a good defensive bonus in the future.

good luck to you, aaminion00.

Persia is a very nice choice. I won my 1st warlord game with China.
and my 1st Culture victory was Persia, long before I new much of what I was doing.

Its usualy a good idea to mine the grasslands and the Wheat and Cattle resorces.

Turn 2 - 3950 B.C.

The city of Persopolis is constructed on top of a hill surrounded by grassland. It starts work on a warrior while the worker moves Southeast.

Turn 3 - 3900 B.C.

The worker starts irrigation, and I start researching ceremonial burial.

Turn 4 - 3850 B.C.

ZZZ

Turn 5 - 3800 B.C.

Irrigation finished, start working on road. Warrior about to be completed.

Turn 6 - 3750 B.C.

ZZZ

Turn 10 - 3550 B.C.

The worker keeps building roads and irrigation around Persopolis, which is now working on a spearman. The warrior discovers abundant grassland to the North.

Turn 12 - 3450 B.C.

Persopolis's culture expands.

Turn 15 - 3300 B.C.

Spearman completed, work started on settler. Warrior still looking for spot.

Turn 20 - 3050 B.C.

Great spot for city found. City almost done, worker building road to incense.

Turn 21 - 3000 B.C.

Road to incense completed. Settler almost done.

Turn 23 - 2900 B.C.

Settler built. Moving towards spot for city. Worker building mine. Plenty of bonus grassland, forest, and a few resources found East of mountain range.

Turn 2 - 2750 B.C.

Pasargadae finally established in nice spot Southeast of Persopolis. It's working on a worker, while Persopolis is finishing up a spearman for it. Warrior is exploring Southward, and the worker is going to build a road between the two cities. I'm done for today.

I recommend the same as CG did in his above post. Also - try to avoid spending time roading or mining mountains (looks like you're busy doing that in the last screenshot) - focus on getting the most efficient use of each tile whilst beelining for expansion at the same time.

I hope this does not sound contradictory, as it is meant to be a sound advice. You should mine a lot of grassland in the early stage because despotism do not allow for the enhancement of irrigation to work fully with the tile (as in you wont get the benefit of +food from irrigation in despotism)

I assume you still have some units scouting the lands? That is important (perhaps even more so in C3C though).

I have faith in you grasshopper. Good luck :)

I just beat the Mesopotamian conquest on warlord level. But that's not a real game, so I'll get back to PTW Persia in a lil' while.

Congrats on your Mesopotamian victory

I think you are doing a good job with the regular game, but I personally like my cities a bit closer (Pasergrade being moved 1 square to the SW to get the Wheat right away, but I like my cities close, and that's just a personal thing)

But you should be careful about over irrigation early. Your Industrious, so its easier to irrigate later when it has any effect (the Despotism penalty gives you -1 food for any square producing over 2, so Grassland won't produce 3 food until you get Republic or Monarchy).

good job on Mesopotamia victory, as for the warlord game the thread was created for, i suggest mining at first, and go relatively easy on irrigation as early production is worth its weight in worker turns.
