Kingdom of Bermuda Claims: Spoiler : I made a small alteration to county borders in the Charleston area to make it look less ugly. Also somewhere in North Carolina but I can't remember where. Capital: Hamilton, Bermuda Official language: English Government: Constitutional monarchy Monarch: Frederick I Premier: Pamela Swan Currency: Bermudian dollar (BD$1 = US$1) Overview: Bermuda declared its independence from the United Kingdom in the wake of the great plague, an event which devastated the British motherland but spared most of Bermuda's black majority population due to their mixed African-Native American ancestry. As an Atlantic island that was never formally part of the United States, Bermuda stayed out of the Mexican-American War and is now a thriving maritime nation. Today's Kingdom of Bermuda is not contained to the island of Bermuda but also includes mainland territories ranging from northern North Carolina to southern Georgia which have been settled by Bermudians to rebuild abandoned communities along the East Coast, thereby expanding the Bermudian sphere of influence. Politics: Bermuda is a constitutional monarchy with King Frederick I as its head of state. Prior to independence, Frederick I was the Governor of Bermuda. His high approval rating among Bermudians lead to him accepting the title King of Bermuda when the island nation seceded from the United Kingdom. Bermuda's pre-independence constitution remains in force to this day, with a few amendments passed to acknowledge the nation's independence from the United Kingdom and transferring responsibilites previously held by the British government to that of Bermuda. Elections are held in five-year intervals to elect the members of the lower house of the bicameral parliament, the House of Assembly, while the Monarch appoints the members of the Senate. The Premier is the head of government and nominates a cabinet which is then officially appointed by the Monarch. There are two political parties currently represented in the Bermudian parliament, the Progressive Labour Party (in government) and the One Bermuda Alliance (in opposition).
