RK-03: Alien Nation (Warlords AWI OCC)

Actually the leader picker on my sig is not... "licensed" by Civfanatics (note it's in Geocities and it has Yahoo! ads). I just did it by myself for myself but I'm glad someone else (you included) finds it useful.

For the techtree well actually it hasn't changed for WL. I don't see any updates necessary short of adding the icons for the trireme, treb, new wonders and the free great general from fascism. That, and maing the "?" icons into whatever they are in the real thing.

Thanks for the interest. Now since I want this to be great, I'd like the roster to pick a start in position.

Note that I DID use World Builder, so I may have a clue as to where the future resources are :mischief:. But you don't, so I'd ask you people to pick. We'll figure out what to do when there's a tie. :D

1. Regenerate Map was used around 30x (yeah)
2. I made sure that these starts are reasonably near the edge.
3. 2 food sources in all starts, except for start 2 which I thought was interesting.
EDIT: the corn in Start 1 is hard to see, but it's southeast of the Mobile Armor on the east side
4. I only used WB to add the Explorer and 2 MA's.

So pick a start, any start: (EDIT: fixed)

And the saves if anyone wishes to play around with it:

Going to have to look in game tonight. Cant really see the resources in this screenshot... Unless you could take screenshot with resource view and grid turned on.

Sheesh! I forgot about that! Sorry... :(

Anyway before I replace the screens...
1 - gold corn wheat
2 - sheep silver corn
3 - corn pigs
4 - cow rice dye

edit: fixed screens

Tough call.

I guess more river means extra commerce for free, favouring start 3. I also like pigs for the great food bonus.

Let me see tonight in the saves.

I vote for Start 1. The lake + the gold are essential to entail we have sufficient initial research. Two food-cum-health resources is also great.

One other matter, I hope you'd turn on "No Tech Trading". That should slow down the AI ... and at least put us and the AIs on a slightly more level-playing field.

I though a lake was only really powerful if you are coastal, so you can get the GLighthouse to make it a 3F square.

What is the power of a lake.

I like start 1. Gold is essential and the 2 food resources are +4 health with granary. They are on a river for easy irrigation, too. I only see 3 hills (plus 1 gold hill) though there may be others covered by forest or units. (I hope so!).

BTW: what's the game speed, epic?

Roster:
2. Fox
3. Shog
4. remconinus
5. petey
1. RKai

Turnsets: everyone plays 60 then 30 then 20 then 15 until end...

I must ask for a swap until the end. :D Already 2 votes and it's a win, so go ahead and go with Start 1.

BTW looks like there are 4 hills at least in Start 1.

I did a quick test on normal speed with a random start. I researched masonry first and built worker, great wall, pyramids by 975BC. I think then we settle all Great Engineers, building only Great Library and GE wonders.

I like Start #1. The Gold mine makes for killer early research. We need to hit Masonry first and then build the Great Wall and Pyramids as quickly as possible to start getting the GE points. If we settle a bunch of those for production, we can windmill the hills and be able to run more Specialists.

We don't need to worry about defense for a couple of thousand years, so build a Worker first and have him start on the mine. Also, the Explorer needs to go over and pop the hut and then start making contact with other civs.

@Rem: starting on a lake is abt commerce, to a less extend food. It the early 400 years or so, everybody has 1 pop with no improved tiles. The lake is the most powerful workable tile giving you the growth-substaining 2 food plus 2-3 commerce (3 if finiancial).

@Petey: GWall? Why? I agree with pyramids, but don't understand the need for great wall. We are not any bit concerned with RB, since we have that two MAs.

Fox you do know it's your turn to start don't you? :D
Even though it does produce engineers, the wall will only delay the 'mids. We do need the 'mids as fast as possible and the AI at this level will likely build early game wonders easily but not the underprioritized 'mids.

 what? You mean I get to play the first 60 turns (grasp ... you sure abt 60 turns? That's awfully alot) or what?

...

Oh, I saw your previous post abt starting ... okay, expect a report within 12hrs.

How abt 40 turns first round? 60 turns is REALLY a lot ... a misplay by anyone (most probably yours faithfully) would be hard to rectify 60 turns later, and may render this game unwinable.

The Great Wall is not about defense, but the Great Wall is mostly good for Great Engineer points and we NEED Great Engineers settled to win the space race. Also, Smelly mentions increased Great general points which we can use too as the AI will attack us in our cultural borders and we need to attack the AI to keep their research slow. Worker-->GW-->mids--> no problems. Do not cut the forests!

It's Always War on Immortal. We're going to be having dozens of enemy units crashing us every turn. While they are MA, we only have the two units. If we can get one less thing to worry about, it's worth the price.

Also, since the AI is going to be attacking us within our borders anyways, we may as well get the double GG points. We can settle them in the city for the +2 XP each and then when we start pumping out our own units, they'll have some decent promotions to be able to defend against all the hordes that are coming out.

Even though we get the two MA, there are only two of them. We can kill a maximum of four enemy a turn with them, which isn't enough to handle the numbers that are going to be coming at us. We're going to need the promotions on the upcoming units and the MA's secondary job is to get enough GG points to give them a leg up when they come.
