Brennus sent a pillaging knight and got the copper,

Civ4ScreenShot0014-1.jpg

and a couple of maces at Ankara, and that was all I saw of him outside the city limits.

Sold Literature to Monte after researching it, then started on the path for Music. No one knows it and the Artist qwould be nice to quell the unhappy Gallics in our soon to be bew town of Brennus' capitol.

And so to the end, marching on Bibracte and bombarding the town while waiting for treb support.

Civ4ScreenShot0015-1.jpg

Get those Pyramids, pholk, and that Big Wall

Er, um... I thought Napoleon was our ally. Oh well, AC is, after all, more trustworthy and the score leader anyway...

Who's up now... Eshunna? He's on skip right? If so, the great pholkhero may play.

The Great Pholkhero has internet problems so a turnset might not be forthcoming so soon. As per the post in the Lonely guys need chicks.

Nappy is a backstabber and AC is a lot more trustworthy I find too. Game looks good guys enjoying it.

It's just me and Bede, then? Ok, this is a got-it for Friday Night unless Eshunna or Furrie can chime in first, or pholk fixes his net.

huzzah! my internet was fixed this morning, so i can get on this tonight. i will indeed grab all those large stone monuments and see what i can see from there.

Turn 293/660 (1412 AD) [28-Dec-2006 21:43:48]
I upped the science to 60% for -1 gpt in an effort to get Music a turn faster. But...D'oh! Bruennus has Music!! One more reason to kill him.

Also, we are *just* above him on the Power graph.

A Mine was built near Ankara

wow, so it looks like Alex wants in on the fight.
1442alexbackstabjl4.jpg

Well, good. I wanted to take Bibracte and make peace, so this will fit into our schedule quite nicely. Our cities on that front, though, are poorly defended. I'll have to rememdy that. However, look at this mess:
1442alexstacktx5.jpg

I'm almost . . . insulted.

I wonder if Cyrus would take on Alex. We might lose those cities, but it doesn't matter anyway b/c I couldn't even ask him as it was redded out.
So i traded:
1442cyrustradeec0.jpg

I start some Jannissaries to whip next turn for some instant defense, and as replacements for those who might fall in Celtia.

Sparta begins: Janissary (12 turns)
Ankara begins: Janissary (14 turns)
Vienne begins: Janissary (60 turns)
Bursa begins: Janissary (26 turns)
The attack commences next turn at Bibracte. Brennus has oppressed us long enough. We're goig to probaboy lose all of our seige weapons, but with all the Jannie's i'm going to whip next turn, I'll try to put the overflow into siege replacements.

While attacking in Celtic territory at Bibracte, 1st Trebuchet of Konya (Trebuchet) loses to: Celtic Longbowman (4.20/6) (Prob Victory: 3.1%)
While attacking in Celtic territory at Bibracte, Trebuchet II of Istanbul (Trebuchet) loses to: Celtic Longbowman (1.20/6) (Prob Victory: 17.5%)
Well the ritual trebuchet suicide knocked the longbows off the
top defender spot. Next up for our cats. With the appearance of Alex's
stack, we're going to need defenders there soon!
While attacking in Celtic territory at Bibracte, Catapult loses to: Celtic Knight (9.40/10) (Prob Victory: 0.5%)
While attacking in Celtic territory at Bibracte, Catapult loses to: Celtic Knight (8.10/10) (Prob Victory: 0.5%)
While attacking in Celtic territory at Bibracte, Catapult loses to: Celtic Longbowman (1.68/6) (Prob Victory: 4.2%) And one cat w/drew that the log doesn't pick up. 25% chance of w/draw and 1 of 4 actually does . . . that i can live with.

And w/the fall of Bibracte's culture, Vienne picks up those horses.
1460horsesui2.jpg

In 7 turns, we can start building knights to pillage, pillage and pillage.

Hah! 5 M people AND access to horses on the smae turn...coincidence?? I think not!

I decide to take a chance and try to clean up that Greek mess:
While attacking in Ottoman territory at Apache, Janissary II of Apache (Janissary) defeats (1.35/9): Greek Maceman (Prob Victory: 74.7%)
While attacking in Ottoman territory at Apache, Janissary II of Konya (Janissary) defeats (7.65/9): Greek Catapult (Prob Victory: 97.1%)
While attacking in Ottoman territory at Apache, Maceman defeats (3.20/8): Greek Catapult (Prob Victory: 96.8%) there's only a cat and a chariot left that I can't get good odds on so I'll leave them alone.

And I'll take out that longbow what killed our cat earlier.
While attacking in the wild at Bibracte, 2nd Janissary of Gaul (Janissary) defeats (4.05/9): Celtic Longbowman (Prob Victory: 98.9%)

I'm swinging our forces east toward greece and camulodunum (Celtic). It's
defended by a lone pikeman!! Also, taking Bibracte knocked Brennus from 2nd down to 7th...second from the top to second from the bottom. once camulo falls, we could either sue for peace and head over to Alex's side OR
just hold off Alex for now, as his "stack" is but a cat & a chariot. Then, we can just keep the pressure on Brennus and utterly destory him...though i htink we did that farily well already! He's lower than Alex in score now! We'll just need to make sure he doesn't grab onto Cyrus as his last resort.

Ankara grows: 6

IBT:
While defending in Ottoman territory at Apache, Janissary II of Konya (Janissary) defeats (5.31/9): Greek Catapult (Prob Victory: 97.7%)
While defending in Celtic territory at Bibracte, 1st Janissary of Konya (Janissary) loses to: Celtic Knight (2.40/10) (Prob Victory: 16.9%)

Auggie comes by for a trade.

I accept to keep a good friend happy, but it angers Lil' Gen-E-Ral (i think he's a new rapper). Attitude Change: Napoleon(France) towards RK-07(Ottomans), from 'Annoyed' to 'Furious'

Turn 302/660 (1466 AD) [28-Dec-2006 22:24:04] While attacking in Ottoman territory at Bibracte, 3rd Spearman of Gaul (Pikeman) defeats (4.50/6): Celtic Knight (Prob Victory: 100.0%)
A Mine was built near Konya

I'm going to go after that last chariot of Alex's:
While attacking in Ottoman territory near Jute, Spearman defeats (2.96/4): Greek Chariot (Prob Victory: 99.4%)

Vienne's borders expand

IBT:
While defending in Greek territory near Athens, Spearman loses to: Greek Longbowman (4.08/6) (Prob Victory: 2.3%)

Santiago (Isabella) culture flips
1472santiagoflipzl8.jpg

Turn 303/660 (1472 AD) [28-Dec-2006 22:26:50] Santiago begins: Granary (23 turns) okay, our forces can heal while we bombard the city's defenses. Once this city falls, i think it really is lights out for Brennus. And look! Napoleon is now 7th!! Auggie must be doing a number on him. Do we have perm alliances on?

And that's that. Camulo should fall relatively soon, even though Brennus has stashed a couple more units in it. We've got a cat there, and a treb on the way. It will take a few turns to bombard the defenses, but our forces will need their Medic III Gen'l to heal them while they wait.

After that, we've got about 3 or 4 treps in Apache ready to go east if we want and take out Alex. If that stack is any judge, it should be quite easy. I can't imagine why he'd attack, unless his finances are in shambles and he's trying to expand to make moeny.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/85326/RK-07_AD-1472.CivWarlordsSave

Why not take Brennus as a vassal?

Good job, pholk. Revenge is sweet!

And Augie has been tap dancing all over Napoleon ever since he marched all those praets to the east. Paris fell during my years at the helm IIRC.

Heh heh. Why would Alex attack us anyway. I'd think he should've gone for Monty instead. Sigh, Alex never learns.

This is the pickup, and I'll play either later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Pre-turn:
Monty has his hands full right now... hmm... I wonder who he's going to be after.

Turn 1:
Sparta is unhappy, whip Market for 2.
Greece shows up at Sparta with a deatchment Mace Pike Catapult Axeman. Not a big deal.

Redirect some troops from Apache to deal with it

Turn 2:
Istanbul: Jan -> Theater
Ankara: Market -> Jan
Gaul: Janissary -> Heroic Epic

IBT: Knight attacks Bibracte and dies to a Jan

Turn 3:
Attach Military Instructor to Gaul
Whip Janissary at Sparta... more troops are heading this way...

Turn 4:
Sparta: Jan -> Catapult
Lyons captured by Augustus
Sparta's defense down to 45%

Turn 5:
Konya: Jan -> Catapult
Greece continues bombing Sparta but that's not going to continue... I attack!
Janissary loses to Mace
Janissary loses to Mace
Janissary beats Axe
Janissary beats Pike
Axeman beats Catapult

Hmm... :smoke: We have more troops anyway. Plus 1 city garrison Jan at Sparta. Not going to die soon.

Camulodunum...
3 trebs withdraw :D
1 treb dies
2 maces die
All Janissaries win, including Georgy Zhukov.
Forgot to take screen of victory heheh.

IBT: Janissary dies to Treb in Sparta.

Turn 6:
Near Sparta: Janissary beats Treb, Jan beats Cat

(stop!)

Well I stop here for three things...
1. I realized that Brennus might become a Vassal of Cyrus soon. And our economy is dying fast (barely making money at 40% sci)
2. So I check out what he will give up to capitulate...
3. And I have a headache and need to go to sleep.

He will offer the city of Verlamion (it's on the ice) + 110 gold and capitulate. Boy he's smart, he even knows we know what kind of city he's offering, doesn't he? I suggest swapping that worthless city out for techs...

I think Optics + Guilds (1 turn left) + gold should work. Also try Philo + Guilds (or even Philo + Optics + Guilds) if it's possible.

If I remember correctly, extorted techs don't count towards "we fear... advanced" right?

Got it!

Nice work on both fronts. Let's see what I can do about Brennus, Cyrus and Alex.

Decide to take a run at Liberalism so make a buy of Philosophy and cash from Cyrus for Gunpowder

Civ4ScreenShot0000-3.jpg

then accept Brennus's as a vassal and take more cash and Optics and Guilds.

Civ4ScreenShot0001-3.jpg

The result is a tremendous peace dividend which goes to financing the run to Liberalism with some added cash from Augie for Music and maps, helped along by a donation from Isabella.

The forces in old Celtland make their way across country to Apache for a Greek adventure.

Cyrus then tries to extort Education but I send him shopping elsewhere.

Civ4ScreenShot0005-3.jpg

Alex sends a Crossbow at Apache but it takes two Janissaries to take him out (he was sitting on the spices)

Civ4ScreenShot0006-3.jpg

Then he sends a lonely catapult which becomes promotion bait for the Janissary garrison

And follows that with a single mace who is another step for a Janissary

When Bibracte comes out of resistance whip in forge and follow with a courthouse then start on troop training facilities. That city will become a troop training powerhouse

Civ4ScreenShot0007-3.jpg

Then Monte gets a wild hair and pulls this stunt

Civ4ScreenShot0008-3.jpg

That will of course keep Cyrus busy in the northeast while we prosecute the Greek War.

Brennus was given some iron and told to go attack Orleans and must have had some pillaging success as he finds 270 gold pieces somewhere, I remove those from his pocket for Paper

Civ4ScreenShot0009-3.jpg

In 1532 we cross the border into Greece and start with one of Alex's junk towns to gain experience for the assault team before tackling Athens

Civ4ScreenShot0010-2.jpg

The army cleans up the south by burning those junk towns. If Alex becomes our vassal I really don't want his economy hobbled by ice bound towns far from his homeland. Jute falls and our troops gain more experience, then Mycenae and finally Pharsalos next to Santiago, then they turn north again reinforced by knights, macemen and trebs.

When Liberalism comes in I consider what will enhance the realm best and decide that Chemistry will be my choice. Nationalism would be of lesser value to us, while Grenadiers will be just the thing to face down Alex's army at Athens.

Civ4ScreenShot0012-2.jpg

Alex sends another small force at Sparta,

Civ4ScreenShot0016-1.jpg

then puts a knight on the silver mine

Civ4ScreenShot0018-1.jpg

so a janissary kills the knight while the garrison troops defeat his mace and treb at the gates and the crossbow scuttles back towards Athens

Civ4ScreenShot0021.jpg

Monte seeks our support

Civ4ScreenShot0017-1.jpg

And I suggest he go back to his halls and sulk. Cyrus has had some success against him by capturing Texcoco.

ALexander sends in the Lone Ranger at Apache

Civ4ScreenShot0022.jpg

He dead, and Tonto is heard muttering something about "What do mean we, White Man?"

And in 1580 we are knocking on the gates of Athens

Civ4ScreenShot0023.jpg

The approaching Ottoman army is cats, trebs, Jans and CR2 grenadiers (upgraded from the maces on hand). Athens shall soon join the realm (Will we get to bombard the Parthenon?)

Ran the scientists through Printing Press after Chemistry for the economic boost then started on Steel for cannon.

Augie and Nappie continue to mix it up and Nappie is reduced to Orleans and some ice bound towns. Nappie sent a Horse Archer at TOlosa but Brennus dispatched it convincingly.

mmmm...I smell a war with Cyrus a'comin' in the nigh future ~

I've got the save, but won't be able to play until tomorrow night. I'll continue on against the Greek, and will never give up, never surrender. I will fight him on the plains hill, and in the jungle. On the camped elephant grassland and the cottaged flood plain. On the...well, you guys get the idea.

Okay, load it up and away i go. I first loaded Bede's previous 15th century save and MMed away there, but once i realized we were still at war with Brennus, i figured out i made a mistake :) So i loaded up the right save, and just didn't go through our cities; I'm pretty sure Bede did a good job before me, so . . . plus i'm lazy.

press enter.

So, no then, what to do with our new general? I wanted to found an Academy somewhere, to help with troop production. Then i realized that the city he was in was our #1 hammer producer!! Istanbul finishes: Military Academy

1589alexneverqq7.jpg

well, he won't surrender yet, so, i'm going ot head north and raze Knossos. It's close to the border with Persia, and so may not be ours for very long. I'd like NOT to strengthen Cyrus' hand. (on second thought, though, it might not've flipped very soon, esp if we holed up a large garrison there, which we'd need to do since it borders Persia.)

RK-07(Ottomans) and Alexander(Greece) have signed a peace treaty Okay, i took peace with Alex as i can't take out ephesus with the samll army i've got, and monty's getting close to athens with his persian conquests. We got banking out of the deal.
Tech learned: Banking

Brennus(Celtia) and Alexander(Greece) have signed a peace treaty

I founded our new old city. Feel free to change the name:
New New Edirne founded
New New Edirne begins: Granary (45 turns) There's a longbow on the way for garrison duty. Otherwise, our army is holed up in Athens, right on the border with Azteca. I think we should either move forward and take the fight to Monty (as he's got several units on the march in Persia; he's already taken a city) or heal for 10 turns, move the army south, w/new siege equipment, and end Alex's reign. Raze the 2 southern cities and keep the current capital (i forget the name). We could then go on to Monty, if needed.

We still have a good tech advantage with our grenadiers. I think a Dom victory is in order. It'd be esp neat if we could do it via w/as many vassal states as possible. That seems in order for the Ottoman empire, no?

DaSV4U (my liscense plate)

<tiptoes in and looks around the big map room>

"awful quiet in here, what's everybody up to?"

Got it for some fun times in the east.

Took the war further into Aztec territory.

Captured and burned Texococo. Then curled up on hill to heal and await reinforcements, mostkty cannon.

Built the Forbidden Palace in Bibracte and started research to Nationalism after Steel.

Athens is getting squeezed by Persian and Greek culture and the peace treaty with Alexander has run its course, so perhaps a little ethnic cleansing might be in order.

More war if you want it
