RLC#3. Genghis Khan.

Well played Pigswill. I told you the situation wasn't hopeless. ;)

I guess you can pick your path to victory now, either capping your continent, growing a few cities, and winning diplo, or launching a naval invasion to win via Domination (more effort, obviously).

If you go the Dom route, you should give your super-mace the amphibious promotion before upgrading him. :D

In the spirit of friendly criticism...

Spoiler :
... you started a GA two turns before capturing the MoM. Was this deliberate?

Doshin: in response to your friendly criticism I launched the GA two turns before capturing MoM because I've been so far behind for so much of this game that wonders haven't even entered my thinking, let alone the ones I don't have.

Diplomation does seem to be a possibility.

From 1884 I've got 339 votes with SB, WK/Mansa have got 275, Shaka and Jules have another 76 while Darius has 164.

If I capitulate Shaka and Jules that brings me to 413 out of 852, not enough. If Darius votes for me it goes up to 577 out of 852 which probably is enough. However there's the overall diplo situation to consider:

Darius is friendly to me but pleased to WK and is likely to abstain a victory vote (I think) so I wouldn't have enough votes to win. If I cap Darius and Shaka and Jules I should win diplomation unless WK or Mansa get Sushi and grow like weeds.

Capping Darius and keeping one (or more) proto-legends stops him getting cultural victory in the near future. If I can control my continent before Mansa launches I'm in with a chance of victory.

Without awaiting sagacious counsel I plunge on recklessly:

1886. Persepolis is Legendary in its sophistication.

Bah, humbug!

rc3n10000.jpg

1888. Mansa has built Hollywood. Get some nice movies in exchange for dye.
Capture Bactra.

1890. trade communism to SB for corporations. We've learned how to build rockets. There will be fireworks. Because we care about the welfare of our people we decide to study medicine. Capture Tarsus.

1894. Do we want a UN resolution? Nah.

1898. Pasargadae joins the Union of Mongolian Socialist Republics.

rc3n30000.jpg

Ooh, shriny.

Darius accepts the historical inevitability of world socialism:

rc3n20000.jpg

1900. We've learned medicine. We've just acquired a great merchant. Sid's Sushi has not been founded. Is it worth abandoning State Property for cold fish and rice?

When faced with tricky questions Genghis prefers to distract himself with his favourite hobby:

rc3n40000.jpg

Capture KwaDukuza.

Our knights have indeed been cavalrised and our macemen have swopped clubs for missiles.

Darius ain't so posh now, eh :p.

rc3n50000.jpg

Mansa seems to be taking his time heading for the stars.

Pasargadae is what you call a PRIZE!!!! 3 shrines and comes with at least a grocer. 3 GG and a military acadamy and even a settled GP. That must have been one of the biggest prizes I have ever seen in my Civ career.

Great game, pigswill!

Pasargade is a very nice addition to the Union :)

It looks like the game is in the bag now. It's time to be glad that you didn't give up :king:

Cold fish and rice? Revolting. (For two turns in fact). We enter post-communism.

1900. End of turn. Anarky rools ok.

1901. We've just declared on Shaka. Then this happens...

rc3n90000.jpg

Hello again Jules. Where did you get those infantry from?

Minor border skirmishes down south. Once again our fishing nets get ripped to pieces, most vexing.

1902. Yeah, capitalism :gold: :deal: :gold:. Free market Sushi, yes please.

1903. Shall we? Yes, lets:

rc3n70000.jpg

1904. Oh no. Failed again .

rc3n80000.jpg

In a fit of pique we capture Nobamba and Umgunthingy. Shaka is left with Ulundi. Let's just kill him off for having the audacity to bring in an ally (and he's Mansa's worst enemy which would complicate diplomacy further).

More skirmishings, inf+arty vs inf+arty is less fun, just as well our veteran army is highly promoted.

1907. Mansa founds Creative Constructions. He's also built 5 casings to add to 5 thrusters and a cockpit. He's getting there slowly.

1908. Its the autumn of the Zulu empire as yellow fades to brown and just like that Shaka is no more. He should choose his enemies more wisely.

We haven't forgotten Jules. We capture Setia in 1908, we've got 2 stacks in Roman lands, Jules is down to three cities, in three turns time he'll be feeling very lonely.

In theory we might squeeze enough votes from the land formerly known as Zulu and the last remnants of the Romans. Time will tell. However our cities have been starving since Jules declared and memories of war weariness came flooding back.

Should we stay in free market and try to spread Sushi or go back to state property? I'm not sure it really matters but what do I know.

If I read it correctly you could finish Ceasar in about 5 turns and then WW is gone. If that is the case stay in free market and start the spread of sushi. With enough pop you will win the next diplo victory vote. Switching back to SP will cost you 2 turns also with no production. So for 3 more turns with ww you will be able to squeeze out your diplo victory.

Hopefully less than five turns for Jules (unless he's really stubborn and I end up annihilating him). A few turns of culture will be less expensive than a couple of turns of anarchy. Hopefully I can switch to US through the UN to rush-buy stuff (FP, Sushi execs etc).

I'm not going to bother with any further research because Mansa would have reached Alpha Centauri by the time I got to nukes, mech inf etc. Once Jules is neutralised I'll switch to emphasising food, probably keep culture slider going to give decent happy caps.

More turns.....

1909. UN vote. Propose US.

1910. Vote fails! Jules says Nevah!! Defiant against the odds. Good attitude

1911. Or maybe just a final gesture.
Capture Ardea.
Capture Circei.

rc3p10000.jpg

Have some cities back Jules. Its a bit sad having a one city empire (and I need to keep below 60% pop for UN victory).

1913. Mansa adds docking bay to his spaceship. He's also discovered fusion....

Couple more turns played.

64k score. "You have the leadership skills of Augustus Ceaser". That bad, huh  . I guess they're right .

Nice victory Pigswill. Who cares about the score. You thought you had lost but didn't give up and voila, there is an impressive win. You never learn from the easy wins. You learn from the hard wins and defeats. Congratz and thx for the great write up.

:hatsoff:

Nice job! I didn't read all the ALCs but I think that this game really lives up to the predecessor's fame! I'm looking forward to the next game in the series! :)

A game remarkable for sub-optimal play.

Lessons (hopefully) learned:

Beeline liberalism (or fall way behind very quickly).

If you're building Glight prioritise exploration and writing for open borders.

Artillery can be a 'get out of jail free' card.

You don't have to play well to beat immortal.

Its better to be lucky than good.
