Road to War - Historical

You need to click on the link and it will take you to www.filesend.net and a link to download it.

Thank you for responding so quickly. but...

Yes I of course did the above previously and waited the 22 seconds for the download icon and then hit it. It gives me my download that instead of being 288 mb is 13.2 kb - I have tried it over 10 times on three different days. In case you think I have a computer problem I should note I downloaded and used Rise of Mankind and Total Realism in the last few days.

Thanks for your voluntary time.

Cheers,

Bonzootoo

Try this direct link to the file, i.e. double-click on the link, it will then take you to a page from which you can download the file.

I have had over 160 downloads so far.

It works in IE8 and should work in most other browsers ...

The problems with the game-lock when attacking is too much of a fault for me so I am considering the following for the groups;

Small Units - 1 Soldier
Division - 2 Soldiers
Corps - 3 Soldiers + 1 MG
Army - 5 Soldiers + 1 MG + 1 Artillery
Tank Units/Divisions/Corps/Armies, Army Groups and Fronts will continue to use single tank models.

The Russian Corps will also have one NKVD soldier as opposed to the current Officer, who does not display correctly in the graphics. As to the Pink Propellers, I will replace the PZL 24 models used and change them to generic ones. Czechoslovakia can use the PZL 24 as well as the Avia.534 is similar.

I have now virtually defeated Russia, bar a few minor cities. It was still too easy. I will be giving them now Army-Fronts as well pre-set on the map.

I will also do some Tech Development Calculations. As Germany I am now getting 16,000+ per turn, which is way too high from the base of 10,000 per turn I was expecting. NOTE: Germany does have a lot of cities now :)

I have made significant changes to all Civics, Specialists, Religion, and Handicaps. In addition I have added significantly to the costs of each units maintenance.

RE: Handicaps - Prince is the midpoint, where it should be the most balanced and costs are equal for the Human player and the AI. However, these handicaps are now significantly different to the original one from BTS. e.g. you can still play at diety level and not be slaughtered.

RE: Units - The costs are now high enough that the when Germany starts playing he is in negative income and has to reduce his research percentage to be back in the positive.

RE: Religion, Civics, and Specialists - The bonuses and minuses are now quite varied and these changes should help. e.g. I noticed that "Police_State" had a 50% science bonus (now removed). Generally the more freer the civic the better their bonuses.

I'll look into any other areas, e.g. the tech costs themselves if necessary.

I can't play as Poland, it always freezes between the initial turn and the next turn, tabbing allows me to see a windows that asks me if I want a full dump and it freezes if I click full dump

EDIT: NOw I'm playing as UK and just East of Inverness there are 4 fighters, but since you made carriers only hold two they don't all float
EDIT2: Same thing north of Alexandria

OK: Good observations, I edit the World builder and remove two of the fighters squadrons, each

Poland could be related to the large number of figures in the unit for an Army, which should be fixed in the next BETA release.

I should be able to released BETA 2 in a couple weeks time.

What are the specs of your machine. Do you have a fixed swap file as opposed to dynamic.

In addition, I find on the intial turn ... I wait for the entire AI to complete (i.e. no further messages in the top box), before pressing next turn. I generally find the AI takes a bit of time to catch up on turn one or two as the AI reorganises it's forces from the pre-set positions

Just checked my "filesend.net" stats - 200 downloads of my first 1.04.BETA

Thanks for your support !!!

I hope to release a BETA 2 before the end of the month. Not hopeful though as I am currently working on migrating office servers and the relocations of 3 buildings and 2 factories into one new purpose built complex.

I honestly have no idea how the swap file is configured, it's an old workstation (from 04/05)

You seem quite the busy man, at least the research for WWII is done, this should make it better for Civ V

Time for an upgrade.

You might be hitting the memory limits. RtW struggled on my circa. 2003 machine. You may want to try this "Rise of Mankind tip" that may help lesser machines (e.g. WinXP 32bit.)

It'll be two years (at least) before I will be able to release a Civ V version.

I am releasing BETA 2 early as I will probably not have much time to work on things for a while.

I have updated download details

It highly doubt it is hitting memory limits as I played a full game as Germany. My machine was a beast back in the day (it was several thousand USD). I have tried the RoM tip as I play that often and it doesn't work because I have a high end GPU with 768MB-VRAM so the switch doesn't work

EDIT: Is the link now Beta 2?

Yes the link is now BETA 2 - Good luck with that one.

It is tough, you'll be lucky to get 100% science output while playing the Germans. Have not looked at other nations. Still don't have enough time.

As to your machine - I leave that to you to work out, you seem to know your stuff.

My Win7-64 Core i7/6GB/HD4870 is adequate for me, however I am looking to upgrade to a better GPU - possibly a ATI 6xxx series and also SSD disk, late this year or early next year, to ensure no lagging in Civ V and when I start developing for it.

prioritize the SSD (you don't need a big one, you should keep the OS and frequently played games on it, like Civ)

I currently have a 160 GB 10,000rpm HDD and slow 160 GB external HDD and 1TB external HDD for backups.

I plan to put the SSD as the prime and put my swapfile on the 160 HDD. SSD have a maximum number of writes so if I place the swap on HDD it should avoid that count increasing too fast.

Hello,

I just came across this thread and this looks like a real good concept. I downloaded the file and extracted it to /Beyond the Sword/MODS/, but when I load the mod for some reason I can't get the scenarios to come up. Did I miss something?

I'm running on Windows 7.

I appreciate the help and I am really looking forward to trying this out.

:lmao: sorry, I'll give you a run down in the spoiler
Spoiler :
So, you are worried about life expectancy right? okay I'll give you some math
Lets assume write speeds of 80MB/s which is fairly fast, and lets assume 1 million write cycles, which is on the really low side (an 80MB/s will probably have 2 million)
So with a 64GB lets first convert it to MB right? 64 000MB (they use each by 1 000 not 1 024, so now 64 000/80=800, now we times by 1 000 000=800 000 000 seconds, (now to divide by time) 800 000 000/60 (sec/min)=13 333 333/60 (min/hour)=222 222/24 (hour/day)= 9259/366 (day/leap year)=
25 years at minimum,

try to navigate to \Road to War - Historical\Public Maps\ and click on the file there. It should auto load the mod and run the scenario.

"25 years at minimum" - OK ... I'll have a 64 core CPU by then running Civ X :D
