As far as general stratergy goes plastering your nation with roads and then railroads is very good as it boasts your economy (and so your power, science output, etc). However I have seen other nations doing this and I think that it just looks stupid.:crazyeye:

Does anybody have any tips on mods that I can download etc.

Note- luckily I manage to still win the game on regent with hardly any roads (I have not tried the hardere difficulties).:king:

Check the completed modpacks section here on CivFanatics. I would recommend a couple cause some of them are my favorites.
Marla Singer's world map is good one its huge though and any others based on it are too. Scipio and Others Realism Epic adds their changes and units to the game. Good thing that makes a good mod a great mod is those helpful readme files with install help. Anyways on to others. WWII mod is cool and theres a Fascism mod out there made by Wolfshanze I think, adding in a new government form so now theres 3 different types of advanced governments- commie, fascist, and democracy.

Well I'm sure there's more but I shared the ones I play the most.
Great work you mod-makers!!! :goodjob: :egypt:

It does look VERY stupid. But it works. I just put all railroads in my CITY RADII, but connect them with just a single tile of railroad connects city radii.

my grammar sucked there. sorry.:)

at least build a road for the comer bonus

You should put railroads everywhere in your territory so invaders can't cut the only tracks between your cities during an invasion. It may look stupid and ugly but it helps a lot when you are fending off attacks.

I build RailRoads like this way: first build RR on the 8 Squares directly bordering the city. Then build RR on the rest of the CityRadius, so three Squares on every side of the square from 3 by 3 (the Squares directly bordering the city).
I always build my city with the CityRadius bordering each other, so in my case you'll have everywhere in your empire RR where you need it, if you're following my schedule.

I build roads/railroads everywhere, even sometimes outside my terriority so I can wheel in tons of offensive forces on the enemy in a single turn and just destroy everything in my path. the AI is dumb, and usualy you can just take a meek path and build your own infrastructure and defensive positions and then build an offensive force. Even on hardest level the AI is pretty dumb. I never care about diplomatic victories or whatever, if it takes me to 3000 AD to win the game.. then thats how long it will take :)

You will never see my cities without railroads all over the place in my lands in the industrial age, I never have bad transportation except the anchient age, I work all of my land.

Im a railroad tycoon myself....build them all over.......i dont usually have that strong a military, so mobility is key for my strategy. Minimal units garrisoned in cities, with roving patrols that can shoot around on rail to intercept intruders

It's a nobrainer, really. You don't have to think about where to build, because the best strategy is to build them everywhere on your territory.

This is also the problem with roads and railroads. The decision shouldn't be so easy. I would like to have to think and to plan where to build them instead of just setting workers on auto to cover everything.

A solution IMO would be to have a maintenance cost on roads and railroads (not able to pay => disrepair => random chance of disappearing). This way you would have to build your road and railroad networks intelligently which would enhance the game experience.

Not everybody likes this? Ok, make the road maintenance costs modifiable in the editor and set the default to zero (i.e. as per now) so that at least those who would like to try it could do it.

upkeep cost for railroads.. interesting idea, atleast railroads in a city radious would pay for it self with the commerce bonus it gives.. but outside the radius it start to cost money.. I actually like it, that way you would be more valnurable to attacks on your railroad network.. I sure like the idea, I always line up a colomn with infantry or something along a ralroad to any remote areas to prevent the AI from bombing it to pieces.. i also depends alot on mobility. Maybe it can be modified in a way to give railroads a cost... Sure would be interesting to test.

No, I disagree with that idea. I don't like the idea of RailRoads that are costing money. RR's should be free and if you want to make it realistic, well, I think the RR's in the CityRadius are earning enough Commerce for the RR's that don't are situated in a CityRadius.

Did she remove her teeth for that?

Sorry if you found that offensive, I just couldn't help myself :D
