Role Play Challenge: Alexander Greek God of War III

That was actually a fairly quiet round for you ;)

The situation's looking a better with each round, good luck finisheing of gilga and suili although I don't think you need it.

Alexander, Greek God of War: Part V

OK, we are moving along here. No more knockouts, surpising but for certain reasons that will become clear later. We are doing pretty good with tech although we are behind in certain military techs which could be a slight concern. But onto the game!!

Tech pace, we went Liberalism/Printing Press/Guilds/Banking/ and started replacable Part targeting rifling for an edge in the next round!

First we continue to pile on troops in Corinth near the Summerians border. We make a slight request from the Summerian.

Another tech after threatening with a stack of Doom. I am fully prepared to invade Summeria at the end of that time period.

Once again the God of War is doing his job.

And we make a nice littel trade with Zara.

And Ghengis

Finally we get

And take chemistry although I held off teching military science as we got a GS which we used to bulb a good part of Printing Press and I wanted to finish it off.

Before I forget, we got 2 other GPs this round, one was a GM which we sent on a trade Mission to Ethiopia and the other a GS which we bulbed half of Scientific Method. We are waiting for another GS for the other half.

Time finally passes and we declare war on Gilgamesh. Note Suliman is still his vassal and has the SoZ. We could care less!

Our Diplomacy board again, sort of a contradictory name in this game, don't you think?

We take Kish which I believe is only our second coastal city!

Gilgamesh is no rollover, takes a little work.

SUliman abandons Gilg and we get s separate peace.

And we make a convienient trade with Zara.

If I understand the game, Zara is very unlikely to declare war on us if we are trading a military tech to him.

We got a third GG

Aries is born. By the end of this segment I lost both him and Apollo, but Al is OK with it. Never look back, always look ahead!!!!

The assault of the Sumemrian Capital

And...

That's three former AI capitals and this one has some nice wonders which I will show later.

This city has been under alot of cultural pressure all segment so we sill need to do something about that later!

Current Power numbers.

Zara is still top dig. But we are definitely getting a tech advantage so we will see later.

Now Zara did get peace will Gilg, so I offered this deal after 10 turns, just to keep Zara entertained.

The beauty of this deal is that Zara has open border with me and can reach Summeria, but Gilg cannot get through me!!!!

We march onto the third Summerian border city, and this one took some steam out of our army, causing us to lose several well promoted units.

Once we captured it we got this friendly visit from the Mighty Khan.

OK, the mongol dog must die!!!! Sooner than later, and he has Crussairs with him.

We sued for peace

The city was quickly taken by Khan.

And after throwing off several Mongol attempts to take those captured Summerian cities we took peace.

To be continued.....

Alexander, Greek God of War: Part V continued

OK, OK where were we.

Oh, yes. Peace actually broike out for the Greeks. We cannot let that last long.

We got a visit from Agustus requesting help against Suliman. Now we don't like the Romans much, but we still have some unfinished business with those Ottomans. And the SoZ is still out there.

Sorry we did the rude thing and just invaded, rather than formally declaring war. Hope you all do not mind.

Again, what Al does best!

Important to consider as I will show you why in a bit.

First we took the Ottoman captial. Not the oribional, but the way it was developed it certainly should count as another captured capital. It also has several shiney wonders including the Sistene chapel and SoZ.

The sistene chapel is big for this game, as we are running mercantilism so we have at least 1 specialist running and thus always expoanding our culture borders.

Agustus has been trying for a very long time to capture Konya, we very quickly showed him how to do it right, and razed it.

The we decided to sit down and negotiate.

OK, Suliman is down to one city. We do not want a vassal as there is now way to kill them. If he's arround, it seams to keep Agustus happy. I kno we got that unhappiness from we want to join our home land, but the hell with them.

I saved here to decide what the best path is.

The status of our empire

The Summerian capital of Uruk has some nice wonders, especially the University of Sankore. To bad we have no time to build anything other than military units.

The city of Bursa is also wonder rich.

It also has Notre Dame, very nice for the extra happiness with all the warring.

Power numbers

Doing well, but we really need a big tech edge to take out Zara and Agustus.

Speaking of which

Khan with military tradition and steel. That is a problem.

Of course there is always the constant war to help us.

Our cities.

I think I really need some time at peace. I have not built a single university, market, grocer, or bank yet!!!!!!

The world.

Note how cramped Ghengis is. A very stronge and potent hit with perhaps some spy action to take out his horses may be an idea.

And the heathen side of the worls.

OK, I am thinking of some peace and quiet for a bit to rebuild. We could use the forbidden palace in teh sourthen Ottoman lands, some market/grocers/banks while we have a stronge gold treasury.

Tech, obviously we are heading for rifling. We should get a GS for SM soon. Then do we go after military science, nationalism/military tradition, Steel, or Physics Airships).

A whole lot of tech we need.

Lot's of fun though!

Quick question. If Genghis is THAT cramped, how is he teching like that? to have Nationalism and steel, IIRC aren't they expensive techs to get?

No to the Barb cities until the end.

No idea why GK teched so well, but as of now it's a non-issue.

Will post next round in a little bit. Going for tech and diplomacy before unlocking the final God of War aspects of the challenge!!!

Alexander, Greek God of War: PArt VI

Well, we are setting ourselves up real well. Made friends with Zara and Agustus, cleared the world of alot fo dead wood, anmd leading in tech as we beeline modern era warfare!!!!! Big Al plans a glorious battle at the end with all those wonderful modern weapons we love!!!! But we are getting ahead of ourselves, let's see

First our techpath went replaceable part/rifling/military tradition. We also went after alot of the science techs using Al's philosophical trait with plenty of bulbing. We got 5 GSs which we used to tech off SM/astronomy/physics/biology. We also got a GM which we sent on a mission for more money. We had minimal wars ourselves, instead favoring getting others into wars. The God of War's job is not just smashing everyone, but making sure the entire world in embroiled in glorious warfare!!!

First we make a trade with Zara, who is cautious at the moment

Trading chemistry is not easy but it get's us closer to military tradion, cavalry and West Point.

Now to illustrate the uses of Al's Phil trait here's a look at Athens.

By the end of the save we have Oxford here (good for 3 scientists) and building the national epic (with some borrowed marble from Zara). So we can easily still run a SE here once we are forced into emancipation (if we ever are).

Now Zara has send a slew of units into Sumeria, so we want our spoils and send our repectable if small/outdated SoD gainst Summeria.

We are too late for the capital

But not the last city on our borders

We ignore Gilgamesh at this point, as he has only 2 cities left which are very far away from us.

Now we decide to work diplomacy a bit more. We have one Buddhist city (courtesy of Suliman) which took a while to actually get as we were in theocracy and Zara could not send Missionaries to convert our cities.

Yes, we convert to Buddhism. Ghengis is none too pleased with use, but sao what!

And we start working over Agustus diplomatically. We also agreed to fight a phoney war against Suliman when asked.

We finally accept peace with Gilgamesh.

Now, Zara made peace with Gilgamesh, so I could not allow him to sit idle with all those Ethiopian Orome's

This got him up to friendly. OK, will Zara DoW on us at friendly???

Our great Merchat which got us 3900 gold!!

Then notice something???

Agustus finally managed to eliminate Suliman. 2 down, 4 to go!!!

Another GS which we used for astronomy

And we finished teching off the final 5 turns of it to open up Physics once we tech the final 12 turns of Scientific Method.

I see no real reason to get rid of Astronomy here, and constitution great helps to SE plus get's us brownie points with Agustus who has been in representation since he built the pyramids.

Another Diplomacy view showing Agustus/Zara teaming up on Ghengis!!!

And we make another trade with Agustus. Sort of kills the castle bonus, but does open up corporation.

By the way, we are running mercantilism still, and will until we get communism for state proprty.

And very soon

The fearsome Mongol dog is dead. 3 down, 3 to go and one of them is essentially dead. At this point noone now has Steel!!!

I saved here, with a general idea of what we want to do but looking for some advice in case I am missing something.

Cities

Techs

Agustus will trade military science but it is pricey and I see no real reason to want grenaders as we can soon enough have infantrymen. Agustus is at war with Gilgamesh at this point.

The world

OK, the first obvious thing is we have a 2 front potential war with Zara. It also forces Zara to strain his empire's finances as he has to pay for thos enew Mongol lands!!!!

SO here is my thinking

1) We tech communism, pop a GA with the free Great Spy, switch to our final civics, tech democracy so we can adopt emancipation before the GA expires.

2) Then we beeline industrialization for tanks. We do have oil. This requires steam power/steel/railroad (machine guns in all cities)/combustion/corporation/assembly line/electricity/industrialisation.

3) Spart has the HE and is currently building WP.

4) Athens has OX and is building NE.

5) Bejing has Maori statues.

6) Istanbul should eventually get Wall street since we have the hindu shrine there.

How does the plan sound!!!! Looking to find a way to get Agustus and Zara to go after each other, any ideas?

Quick question - it seems that you bribed Zara to go after the Mongols, but you can't see the condition in the screenshot, the target is covered by all of those diplo modifiers.

Why are you going for all of the modern stuff? You can build rifles, cav, and cannon now while Zara only has Grenadiers. I think that's plenty of tech edge to start your final push with. Finishing Communism for the golden age and state property will be helpful; I think that if you start buildup now you will be in fine shape to attack Zara around the time Communism is done especially if you can draft rifles (don't have time to look @ save, not sure if you are in nationhood now).

Sorry for the bum screenshot. I believe the deal was liberalism to Zara for gold and a DoW on Khan.

As far as Zara, It does take a while to build units on Marathon and I want to make sure I have overpowering might.

Also Al is the God of War, and finishing the game with an army of modern weapons just seams like the right thing to do ;) . Come on, don't you want to see Nukes in the hands of the God of War!!!!

Besides, it's a challenge to delay and get Agustus and Zara to war with each other.

Can you post the diplo modifiers zara and augustus have towards each other?

You'll have a tough time getting Augustus to attack Zara. The dude is not a backstabber. He'll never dow someone he's pleased or friendly with, and he can't be bribed to attack someone he's pleased or friendly with. Plus he'll only accept bribes from civs he's friendly with.

Zara IS a backstabber though. He can declare war on his own at pleased (90%), can be bribed by civs he's only cautious with, and can be bribed to attack civs he's pleased with. So using some espionage you can get augustus to switch into some civics that make zara only pleased or even better, cautious with him, and then bribe zara to attack.

Easiest way to do this would be to switch to free religion, hopefully this will leave you at cautious with zara, use espionage to get augustus to switch, then bribe zara, or if you can't get him to, switch back to theocracy and buddhism and then bribe zara, as being friendly with him should make him easier to bribe.

For some reason my BTS game won't let me view the diplomacy modfier settings anymore. Maybe a setting I inadvertantly deleted

I like the idea of letting Zara do the dirty work on Agustus if I can. But if Agustus is as dependable as you say I should not fear him joining teh war against me that easily. There should be some reward for Agustus as he's the only AI who has not declared war on me, he'll be the last I kill!

Regarding swapping to FR, not possible with the RPC rules. I gotta stay in theocracy. Al will blatently cheat (he did that the firt 2 tries) but he won't bend the rules. Go figure!

Then just switch to a religion other than buddhism that augustus has a city with, use espionage to switch him to that religion. Switch back to buddhism, and bribe zara to attack the now heathen Augustus. Just hope that Augustus doesn't manage to switch back to buddhism within those 5 turns, or that zara doesn't suddenly get "enough on his hands" within those 5 turns.

Yes spread Buddhism. I m in the process of that except I only have 1 city with a Buddhist Monestary and I cannot switch to OR. It's going, just takes a while.

The diplomacy "glance" screen in BtS requires Bhruic's supplementary patch to be installed. Maybe you deleted or reset your CustomAssets folders, taking the Python files from the patch with it? Try reinstalling the supplementary patch and see if that helps.

Thanks, I'll take a look but I thought I had his updated patches to the 3.13 patch.:crazyeye:

Update to the next round is coming. It was very quiet and dull, followed by alot of excitement and chaos. It's not over yet, but probably getting close.

Alexander, Greek God of War: Part VII

OK, we teched like a fiend and kept a nice edge. Just as we teched off Assembly line both Agustus and Zara teched rifling. No problem because we had a MAJOR ace in teh hole which neither leader has.

At the beginning we got notice of the power situation

First of all we teched Communism and got the free Great Spy which we used to start a GA. We adopted SP, teched democracy during the GA, and then changed civics at the end of the GA.

Also we made a nice trade with Agustus, who is up to friendly.

And the civics

Kept these the rest of the round.

We then teched Artillery/Steampower/Assembly Line and started Fascism.

WE massively build cavalry and artillery. I mean alot of artillery.

Once we got Assembly line, the other two got rifling, that's when I moved fiduring that they will be shooting their treasuries upgrading. Besides, we didn't want to make things too esay for AL.

Techs

We had a series of four invasion forces. Yes, I do not like those single mega SoD's

Number 1

Number 2

Number 3

Number 4

We upgraded enough rifles to infantry to defend our cities, but mostly artillery, airships, and cavalry did the damage. An man, is artillery way overpowered against cavalry and rifles!!!!

Also note the DP, well 2 for 1. Al is set.

To be Continued......

Alexander, Greek God of War: Part VII continued

The main idea is to exterminate all Ethiopians in the former Mongol lands while maintaining a more defensive front to the east. Worked pretty well, although we had a 2 front war, it really strained Zara alot more. Best thing we ever did was to allow Zara to claim the mongol lands and wreck his economy (at least he teched ALOT slower).

Force #2 doing it's primary mission

Force #1 compelted, although this was a little trickier

Force #3 was successful, good enough to move further east to the next city.

And Force #4 accomplished. This group nailed alot of Roman and Ethiopian raiding parties heading towards us.

No Zara did have a massive army from the Mobgol conquest which he used against the city claimed by Force 1

This was great as most of our units left. We basically leveled the entire army with artillery and took 2 turns to completely destroy it to reclaim the city. A major defeat for Zara.

We even got a GG which we attached to a chariot as a medic.

Force 3 took another sourthen city which we razed.

We eliminated those 2 Roman cities to our south, the former Summerian and Ottoman cities. Did I mention Gilgamesh was killed by Rome, well he was.

After beating back a major Roman assault force with Artillery, we sued for peace.

We took the remaining former Mongol lands.

And look at the former Mongol capital

Damn wonder hog, no wonder why he teched well.

A few more final cities

And Peace, as WW was a major factor

Time to finish Fascisms, perhaps get the Pentagon and some levees. A few tanks and finish this thing.

eastern border is getting narrow

Tech

And that's all she wrote for the night. Time for some sleep!

Great round! Alexander was truly the god of war this time around :D

Finish off Zara! And Augustus too....I kinda like the Romans and Augustus...you should save them for last.

I also think you should change religions to whatever is your most common religion besides Buddhism....there's no more point in having same religion diplo points with Zara and Augustus now....and when you're at war with civilizations with the same state religion as you, you get more WW.

Thanks NT.

Yes, Al is a nobel God of War, so Agustus will be the last leaderkilled as I promised!

Good diea about swapping religions, I'll do that as soon as I finish fascism and swap to Police state. we will lose the hammers in the towns, but military production is 25% faster and that seams to be all we are building.

Also, did anyone notice the Mongol capital has FIVE settled GGs. I didn't notice until this morning. Too bad we won't have that much time to utlize it. Maybe tech combustion and build an armada on that side from Karkom and naval assault Agustus.

But I am thinking neither leader has much left.

Top Bottom
