Oye Vey, this RPC is tough!

OK I played the next round and have it all set to post. However, I am not all that pleased with my play and think the nation of Israel needs a little reboot. Afterall, if the Chosen People cannot obtain from divine intervention from the almighty, well then what good is it to be the CHOSEN PEOPLE!

I'll get back to you all with what I decide after the replay.

The promises of the Covenant are conditional -- you must repent and keep the commandments, or you will be swept off when the fulness of His wrath comes. :)

Perhaps the chosen people need to chosen religions at the beginning of the game? Also if they kept kosher and honored the Sabbath they might find more divine favor...

Oh Israel, The Promised Land: Moses the Deliverer!

"Come Oh Israel! I have been sent by GOD almighty to lead you all to the edges of the Promised Land. No LOnger shall you all cower in obsolesence on the shores of the ocean edge eating fish while thyne enemies ponder the downfall of Israel. HEAR ME, Oh Israel, for I have been chosen to tech the Jews how to write so thoust may learn the Laws of your GOD! HEAR ME, Oh Israel, for the Mighty Nile river awaits Jewish settlers, for my People THAT is your land as determined by GOD in heaven!"

The Israelites quavered in fear and admiration for this fearsome and powerful leader. Abraham was a kind and gentle old man who founded the faith, but not this is a man who can LEAD the people.

"He shall part the seas!" Cries an old Woman

"He is quite handsome, surely he is quite the performer." Wispers a young Maiden

"Why he looks like an APE if you asks me." Scowls the Maiden's Father.

    "ENOUGH!" Shouts Moses.

"My People, GOD shall protect you all, but you must work, go and learn how to prepare arrows, work the sea, and mine for heavy metals."

So the Jews start researching archery/sailing/Mining Bronze Working.

Soon a warrior and a few archers were built followed by a settler.

"Go and Settle the city of TEL AVIV!"

And it was so, with copper is a difficult palce

"Moses, we have finished Bronze Working, what next?"

"Go and learn Pottery and writing, to further educate ourselves."

AS another settler moves out to claim more land, hordes of unbelievers attack the poor helpless Jews.

WHY DO THEY TORMENT US? WHY DO THEY HATE US SO? WHY DO THEY PILLAGE OUR LANDS AND STEAL OUR COMMERCE?

As the Jews cry and lament to Moses, the Roman leader makes a trade offer

Moses takes some time to climb the Mountain, coming down a little while carrying something in his hands. "Oh Israel, I have met GOD and he has given you these 15 (oops) I mean 10 Commandments to follow!"

As the hedonistic Party finished up a Jewish Wannabe Rabbi stands up

"Surely Moses, Animal Husbandry does NOT mean harvesting unclean PIGS!"

Moses puts his arm around the man's shoulder asking "Do you see any around???" and makes a note to start researching priesthood to train a proper Rabbi!.

As Moses has sent one settler out to brave the world, and considers using the lash for the next. "As long as we follow GOD's instructions on the proper treatment of our slaves"

Soon ISarael has expanded well into the Fllodplains rich area of the Nileish River

New York and Jericho, two very proper Jewish cities!

The last settler heads north and settles Haifa, just south of horses.

Moses leans on his staff, "Five cities, good! That is an excellent beginning for Israel. However, I grow weary and GOD has not permitted me to see what this land shall give to Israel. The next leader must bring Israel further."

SO Moses retires into the South, looking for a land with Palm tree, Golf courses, and condominiums while Israel secures it's borders and starts spamming workers to cottage up those prime floodplains and hike up the techpace.

    Speaking of which

we are trying to research Iron working enough to get Agustus to trade for Monotheism. After that we need to decide whether to pursue Monarchy or alphabet. The Jews has an abundance of wine, good for trades.

Right now Agustus is to our north and I have not found the other leaders although the Arabs hate the Jews (hey what else is new) and the Persians have enough on their hands, probably preparing a backstabbing attack on the poor Jews.

SO where does Israel go from here?

PS: The first attempt was saved at 500 BC with essentially the same cities but with a very poor tech choice. Also Haifa was blocked off by a stationed Barbarian axeman, and we were swarmed by ALOT of barbarians.

I'm having a very tough time with this map!

    Spoiler :

I failed to get Jewdaism in time once so I began over.

By researching Fishing first and switching citizens to work the 2-commerce coastal tiles, I was able to get Jewdaism on a subsequent attempt. However, my second city was overrun by barbarians since I built a few warriors and a settler before building archers.

In my next attempt, my research was the same, but this time my build order was work boat, warrior, archer, archer settler. Barbarians were absolutely nuts though. I held onto my first two cities, but had to build a force of 7 archers. A steady stream of barbarian archers, spearmen and axemen kept me pinned down. I finally was able to get some workers out, but the position is really untenable now. All three civilizations that share the continent with me are Hindu, I'm the worst enemy of Saladin - Hindu's founder - I'm losing 5g/turn with my two cities (couldn't get workers out to start cottaging early enough), one or more of the AIs are spamming wonders (TGW, Oracle, Pyramids, ToA, MoM, and TGL have all been built), and the territory I'd hoped to occupy has been claimed by Saladin and Cyrus. At best I'll get 2 more cities of very poor quality.

TheMeInTeam's idea about grabbing TGW to deal with barbarians is probably mandatory on this map. This would allow me to substantially reduce archer buillds in order to grab some land and to improve the land I do grab in a timely manner. Perhaps I'll give this another go later on.

Oh Israel, The Promised Land: Judas Maccabeus, the Defender

As Moses left the Israelites, the heavens opened up and a voice roared throughout the Jews ears.

"YOU NO LONGER NEED A PROPHET MY PEOPLE. FOR NOW I SEND YOU A MIGHTY WARRIOR TO DEFEND YOUR LANDS."

And so was born on the fields of Israel and warrior to help defend the Jews from vicious enemies

Yes, Judas Maccabeus has been born to defend the Jewish peoples! But is he enough?

The Israelites continue to research Iron Working to get metals to defnd themselves.

However, the faith of the Israelites cannot be ignores, so Jerusalem begins to consturct a temple in order to run a priest specialist.

50 turns from founding Solomons Temple!

Next the strategy of researching Iron Working to trade monotheim to Rome paid off

Quickly Judas Maccabeus reviews the lands to see if we have iron

In bad spots, just like the copper and a city for the western iron brings us very close to the Arabs.

Gambling, Judas instructs Isreal to research Code of Laws for courthouses and puts off Monarchy, perhaps a grave mistake.

    Soon Hebron is founded

To claim the iron and wheat for unleaven bread.

However, Israel's enemies are numerous and the trecherous Persians have declared war on us.

The archers quiver in fear at the approach of the dreaded Persian Immortals. Judas uses all his wits to send as many archers as he can to defend his cities while trying desperately to build axes and spears.

    But alas,

It is too late for the Persians have brought Immortals, and catapults, and swords. The Walls of Jericho have fallen.

However, Judas is not one to give up easily and immediately constructs a defending army around New York for the inevitable Persian attack

Meanwhile hope is given to Israel as the Great Prophet Mensius is born in Jerusalem.

Momentarily the Jews have renewed spirits and counter attack against Jericho awaiting devine guidance from above.

Too bad this victory was short lived. The Persians pillaged our iron, and have now brought Horse Archers, which pick apart our defending army

The Israeli's have in fact finished Monarchy and are ready to elect a king, for the Mighty Judas Maccabeus has failed to defnd them.

But The Israli's are torn now, for they are deciding between forgoing Israel as a nation to restart, or continuing the hopeless empire building under what shall definitely be an inept and weak King.

The Technology situation only shows the futility of the situation. The leaders of the Jews were no truely serious about leader and have been abandoned by the Almighty. To be victorious a true leader is needed

It is clear, Israel is in fact finished.

So there we have it folks. A tough map with apparently tougher rules than I thopught. I have no desire to pla out the remainder of this hopeless game as Cyrus is not accepting peace, Sal hates us, and Agustus cannot be bribed. Tech is abysmal. I played a tough map much too non-chalantly if you ask me, more interested in humor and all.

So I plan to restart Israel, for surely such an ancient and proud peoples deserve a second chance (and a third, maybe a fourth).

Look for a a new Israel RPC in a bit. I will play it much more seriously I promise and keep the Jewish humor for later when we can afford to mock our oppressors. Maybe some refined rules, dump the arid map, still keep the founding Judaism rule and all, run a proper Kosher game (OK, I see the errors of my ways, pigs are NOT Pasturized), keep the Promised land bit.

    Oy Vey, what a mess!

That… was the most interesting game I've seen on these forums. And certainly the toughest by a long shot. Looking forward to the restart!

Also, could I just say  at the historical paradox that brief war provided?

Should use Mansa's traits and roll an oasis start! Surely spelling Jerusalem wrong angered God as well.

It was a nice try though. Are you gonna start a new thread or is it going to continue in this one?

Start a new thread and a new map. Perhaps Mansa is a better fit, being financial, spiritual, with a gold producing UB, seams more Jewish.

I suggested arid map precisely because I thought it would be difficult.

People get too used to having all the great cities sites they want when they want them. :)

Maybe you should consider a temperate map instead of arid, Mad ?
I know it's not exactly in the flavour of play, but personally I hate arid maps - and I know why :D

Arid is not difficult, it's simply annoying in most cases, methinks ;)
I prefer tropical, as the jungle hinders HI just as AI to spread like a plague (depending on your position, naturally ;)) but offers rich lands as a price for cutting all these annoying trees down.
