Romantic notions

a long long time ago, when the human race was starting, and all were primitive and savage, there existed two clear divisions of the humans - the one who causes reproduction, aka the male, and the one who does the reproducing, aka the female.

humans are a type of creature that generally only gives birth to one offspring most of the time.

in both cases of gender, both genders want a mate that will produce healthy, strong, intelligent offspring. however, the males have it easy - they can get as many women as they want. however, for the females, they have to make a very careful choice - not any man will do. they must choose one that fits their needs, for they can only be impregnated once every "round".

therefore, in conclusion, men are aggressive, but women more cautious/dangerous.

sourboy,

that's incredibly shallow.

Mebbah some of the fellers(and ladies) who managed to get hitched would give out the best advice.

It's incredibly true today. 2 generations ago? Not so much. I'm old fashioned like that... but tell me today's youth (in America particularly) aren't spoiled rotten, taught to be greedy. Why would it change in terms of a romantic relationship? Most people don't know love, let alone romance...

I totally disagree (and I'm a young American). I think you're just doing everything wrong.

i'm not spoiled rotten :p
romance is overrated.

I have no problem finding/maintaining a relationship. I'm speaking in general...

All complaints I find, in 20-20 hindsight from friends, follow the pattern I mentioned.

I dunno. Twas pretty easy for me to find a pretty and intelligent young woman to spend my life with.

No one said there were no attractive & intelligent women out there?

I have to disagree with the OP. I had sex with many women that didn't mind about not having a romantic futur together. On the other hand I have never met a single girl that wanted to wait before having sex to see if it was serious enough or whatever.

I've met many such girls (who didn't want sex) and moved on. I haven't yet met a girl who was casual about sex. I'm not complaining about being rebuffed (on the contrary, I have my hands too full), nor asking for advice.
I'm just looking for reasons why this might be the type of person I encounter, and I'm starting off with a bit of a generalisation that most people are like this.

If you want to tell me that it's only women in Oxford who are this way, and that all the women in your area hate romance and will only see a guy if he agrees to avoid the slushy stuff, please do.
But perhaps try to think up a reason for the difference too.

In the old days...

A man became infatuated with a pretty girl. They got married. But then the man got bored with the girl after a while. What would he do? Go to the brothel.

These days...

A man became infatuated with a pretty girl. They got married. But then the man got bored with the girl after a while. What would he do? Going to the brothel was generally unacceptable, so he had no choice but to divorce her.

Actually i don't want to start generalizing either, both types of girl (and many types in between) surely exist. But in my life i really haven't noticed that women are committed to romance. The difference between your perception and mine might be caused by many reason; age group , culture, and so on. It might even only be about what type of people we hang out with... who knows.
My post was merely to express my surprise that someone could still see women that way nowadays... not that it's bad, but it's so far away from my perception.
