King of myself
Ok, I'm back and with a nice little chalenge ... the last two games were too easy
Simple enough ? Yup . Easy ? Well ...
Let's look at some pictures :
This is what we see in t0 of play .. we are the 10th player online, so most of the AI players already played ( don't forget during the game that some AI play before us ). Pretty awful by it's own , but we have more , much more ...
... especially much more jungle That and the lack of direct pass to the other side of the continent does not help in a single bit ...
Let's give a look on to the rest of the world, starting by N.America, passing by Western Eurasia+ N.Africa and ending in the Far East:
The Aztecs have not played yet, so N.America is still with only barb cities ( btw, monty AI has lots of issues in capturing those barb cities ... sometimes even the English take them ... )
Europe. N Africa and the Middle east are completely crammed with cities except Russia. Most of the civs around there are either ( or both ) in war with the Vikings or the Arabs ( they already lost their foothold in Iberian penisula btw ). There are french, english and german ( oops, holy roman ) troops around Jerusalem. To the east, Asoka is preparing to not do much around the game while in Sahel area, Mansa already settled one city ( mansa is proably the one of the civs that starts nomad that fares better ... I've seen them settling S.america once or twice )
On the far East... the mongol invasions are about to get started. If commanded by humans, they can be a powerful menace ( because you can prevent both China and Korea of having metals fast, thus negating spears to both ), but in the hands of the AI, they are really bad, fated to cover the marginal terrains of Eastern Siberia. The Khmer already captured their 1st city, but they are not exactly a menace to anyone. China and Japan OTOH are quite developed ( China starts with gunpowder and japan is not much behind ) and if they are kept alone both can give some headaches.
The rest of the world is basically empty ... and most of it will still be emply by the end of the game . No issue with that, we don't need the world to win
Our techs at t0
It looks much, but remember that by this time pretty much everyone in the Old World knows a lot more, have developed cities and can tech trade. We will have a lot to work in this area ... in fact i think the game with the Inca in this scenario is a mad tech race to try to equalize enough with the rest of the world before someone wins or attacks them.
The victory screen
Mainly to show that we have 340 turns to win. That is less than 60% of the regualr normal speed turns. This + the heavy jungle areas around us make cottages a bad proposition ...
Ok, on more detail about the starting area:
We start with two settlers, 2 quechua and 3 workers. As most of you already realized, settling on spot is a awful idea, so I strongly suggest to settle the cities in the two desert spots near the starting location. We lose a turn , but we give use to otherwise useless tiles .The cities overlap a lot , but there is simply no way of making a good city in there, so lets squeeze the early output and transform the area in a settler pump to colonize the rest of S.America .
We need to get both Pottery and Sailing fast: we need both terraces and atleast a galley to do ferry service ( 2 is better ). I strongly suggest to focus first on settling this area:
Especially the Buenos Aires area, that can be made a whip factory or a settler pump ( or both ). But i strongly suggest to settle first the Southern Chile area near the deer, since it is far closer and , after roaded to B.Aires, it will far faster to drop units there than ferrying them through the Horn ( a true barb ship generator ).
Some comments to game directions:
In case you are wondering about the variant name ( yes, I'm talking to you, nocho, probably one of the few that understood the text without a online translator ) :

I'll not let a save since everyone that has BtS has this map in the scenarios. No need for forcing me to delete saves from my completely filled CFC account

Spoiler :
We need to be very careful with everything in this game. Pretty much everyone can put us out of the way after Astro and we will probably never be a major power until very late in the game. China and japan are especially dangerous , since they are not locked in incessant warfare like the Europeans and they are not shy of crossing the Pacific ( Europeans rarely make wars in America , but it is quite common to see China and japan stomping Monty and/or Capac ). So, in spite of being hard, please be very careful in treating with those two. And , for all that is sacred, don't be cocky in diplo
Wonders are a for quite while , maybe up to the end of the game. Most of the european cities gobble the avaliable wonders like there is no tomorrow in the first 20-30 turns. This + the AP in Rome make both culture and religious diplo very unfeasible wins for us.
We will be backward and small for much of the game. Don't lose heart by seeing nothing in our side of the discussion and everything in theirs ...
To be honest i think our only reasonable way of winning is to settle all of the South america, SP civic + major watermilll/workshop combo in Amazonia ... and then try out either space or UN diplo ( far less likely ). The military wins would require time that we don't have and culture and religious diplo arealdy were discarted above ...

I have a friend that knows a person that, in it's late teens had the crazy idea of making the exact same as Che Guevara did when he finished college: grab a friend and a old bike and to cross the S.America starting in Buenos Aires.
When they got to Cuzco ( IIRC ) the local guide, while describing the architecture of the area decided to make a pun in castilian ( everyone that says that there is a spanish language should be hanged, tortured ,burned and shot ... by this order ) saying that there were two major builders in that city: Los Incas ( the Incans , or better said the pre colombians that built there with big rocks cutted in really wierd angles and fitted in a way that you can't put a paper sheet in between them ) and los incapaces ( the incapable ones ( well, in castilian is more between incapable and stupid ) aka the Spaniards , whose buildings are in far smaller stones and are far more degraded in spite of being less aged
Given the theme of the game and the fact that the AI in Civ IV are not exactly Nobel prize winners, i think it is a quite fitting name
