After having beaten the AI in a no espionage game in RR1, I decided to pick a idea that has be bugging my head since warlords days, when someone jokingly said that workers were useless .....

In fact I already proposed this idea for a SG ( see here ) but even ppl that try to win OCC-AW in Immortal thinked that the idea was crazy at the time ;) Now ,after the RBtS6 games ( see here and here ) that had a somewhat similar idea ( no improvements.... both teams won easily ), I hope that less people think that I'm crazy :p

So without further unneeded delay, I present to you RR2:

:crazyeye: No Worker Paradise :crazyeye:

Ruleset:

- We may not build workers.

- Every worker we capture should be released from his slave life with the "delete" button . C'mon, we are in XXI century .... emancipation for all the slaves :p

Standart Fractal map with Churchill. Dificulty is Noble, Normal speed.

Roster:

Mystyfly
Ad Hoc
Stuge
ZPV
pnaxighn

I'll jump on one of those open slots*, if you'll have me.

What with LK145 over and DMIXII lacking a future, I am down to "just" SGOTM.

*I might even play in one of them, too ;)

This is probably beyond my skill level, but it sounds like a lot of fun. With enough discussion to avoid screwing things up, I'd be interested in giving it a shot.

BTS v3.17 :)

Sign me up for my one SG at a time. :)

Hi guys :hatsoff: !

I'd be interested in joining the game... but it seems I am too late...

Lurking mode on!

Cheers,

Raskolnikov

RRR, I'll put you in the alternates. As neither stuge or mystyfly said something , there is a change for you to get in :p

On other issues: map, civ , leader.I think that this variant is perfect for sitting bull: resourceless UU, philo and pro ( draft for the win :p ), like the RBtS6 teams discovered. Not sure if it isn't too perfect :p Mao... Pangea may be too iffy, continents is dull......

So, opinions?

An idea:

Espionnage buildings give free commerce (2 for courts, 8 for the others) points... That could be the path of your end game (after nationalism and constitution)... Draft for more cities, and whip spy buildings to steal the techs you missed... Fred (ORG+Philo) or Hammurabi (ORG +AGR) could be nice for this strat.

Cheers,

Raskolnikov

Willem van Oranje, high sea level, archipelago map. ;)
I'll lurk on this one, and Tatran has a point. It was never specified you cant build work boats, so that should boost your ability to trade for resources if you can capture as much fish as possible.

- We may not build workers.

Can we build Fast Workers? If so then India is probably optimal.

Something tells me the answer is "No" :mischief:

I'm assuming we can't build work boats.

As to leaders, looking at all the traits:

Aggressive:
Gunpowder unit bonus could be useful, since we won't have much of a military until then, anyway.

Charismatic:
Happiness bonus would be *very* useful since we'll have trouble securing happiness resources (trade only).

Creative:
Kinda sucky. Culture is good for border pop, but when resources don't matter nearly as much, that's not as exciting.

Expansive:
Health bonus would be *very* useful since we'll have trouble securing health resources (trade only) and can't rely on food resources to balance disease (unless we capture them already upgraded...)

Financial:
Hard to take advantage of sans cottages.

Imperialistic:
Just as good as normal, it would seem. Which is, really, not very.

Industrious:
Sucky. Wonders without stone/marble? Meh.

Organized:
Just as good as normal, I think. Maybe better, since it can help accelerate research even without resources.

Philosophical:
Hugely powerful, since cottages are basically not an option. Specialist economy, here we come!

Protective:
Sucky as always.

Spiritual:
Pretty much unchanged by our workerlessness.

Given all that, I kinda like Washington for this -- he's built more to deal with lack of resources, rather than to rush some poor noble neighbor and take over resources. Frederick would be my second choice.

Finally checking in :salute:

Map/leader suggestion:
fractal/willem (c'mon archipelago + willem kinda is just avoiding the rules -> cheap :D)

Otherwise I'd like SB, I like that idea.

BTW next game, if you want me to chime in earlier, leave a note in the old thread that the next game started... :p

OK, my suggestion is Medium and Small, building the Great Lighthouse for a trade route economy. Not sure which leader yet.

I agree that with mystyfly that we want a watery map that isn't too watery. It is only Noble, after all. Alternatively, we could go with Archipelago>tiny Islands and bump the difficulty up to Prince.

Well, my rules were stated as simple as possible. if the team wants to drop a No WB rule, I can live with that, but so far this is a no worker realm ( think on the fishing boats as bored rich ppl :p ).

About leaders, in conversation with mysty on IM some leader suggestions appeard:
-Dutch/Willem
-NA/Sitting Duck
-England/Churchill
-Korea/Wang

I can imagine some other options ( Zara for a instance ).....

Other thing: I'm not sold to the idea of going archipelago and cheese out with willem. In fact i'm pretty much tempted to go Fractal ( or even tectonics ). Suggestions?
