I put "New World" in quotes because the continent is fictional, set in the Atlantic. Players at the moment either join as indigenous groups created by themselves, join as part of groups created by existing players, or join as foreign explorers/colonizers/etc. (which come are a combination of real-life countries and a few "what-if" countries.) The idea is that the simulation starts around 10,000 BC, and as the simulation continues and centuries pass tribal societies will undergo changes, Europeans will start to arrive, presumably colonies will form, eventually independent states will come about and the modern world will be reached. It'd just start off simple but become increasingly more involved as the turns go by.

Anyone on here interested in the concept? If so, you can find it here: http://eregime.org/index.php?act=idx (the simulation itself is called "Artan" and there's over a dozen private forum areas; outsiders can't actually see what's going on in the game at the moment)
