How on earth does an unelected comedian of a radio host end up being the leader of the GOP ?
A GOP politician tells him to back off on his radio show rants then goes and gives an apology to the comedian for telling the truth about him.

Is there any American why an IQ greater than 70 who believes Rush should be acting as GOP leader ?

He's the only person who has stepped up.

Sad, perhaps, but true; millions of people hear his ideas, and the good-sounding ones stick. No Republican has that kind of reach, fan base, or authority.

I see this as a good thing... Limbaugh keep the crazies together so we can identify them easier.

Because the grassroots of the party are extremely loyal to him.

Because the GOP is a joke?

I don't listen alot but it seems that he isn't afraid to say what needs to be said. too many liberals are scared of 'hurting' peoples feelings. This Rush fellow seems to be a straight shooter. this could attribute to his popularity

Hitler was pretty popular too. He told it how it was. You obviously didn't see that one coming did you?

Simple. Republican losses are mostly among moderates and fiscal conservatives. Which means the Limbaugh wing is proportionally larger. They're all fanatics who crave attention, but combined with their increased percentage, their taking over.

Also, The Democrats are terry specifically promoting the image of Limbaugh as the face of the Republican Party, for obvious reasons. Eventually however, the GOP will wise up to the fact that you don't win an election with 20% of the population. And then they'll send the dittoheads back to the corner. if not, we could be in for a situation like the 40s, where Republicans were in the same death spiral, until a popular moderate standard bearer emerged (Eisenhower).

But you see they can;t do that. That 20% is intransigent and is the base. Take immigration reform. The corporatist Republicans wanted it, the President wanted it the Dems would have been on board but what happened. The right wing talkers like Rush stirred up the nativist 20% and it was a disaster for the Republicans.

They got to where they are but playing up divisiveness, wedge issues, with a religious and racial tinge. The people they brought in with those issues are completely uncompromising. I mean if you think abortion is murder you just will not compromise. If you think illegal aliens are leprosy carrying rapists and murders you are uncompromising.

I really don’t see how they get out of this death spiral.

Ahem... isn't that what the GOP "big-tenters" said after 2006? Was McCain not moderate enough? He built his whole career on attacking other Republicans.

And the Republican base was decidedly lukewarm to him until he picked a radical extremist for a running mate.

This is what kills me; I want to vote Republican but the whole culture war thing doesnt speak to me and that is how Republicans are defining themselves more and more. The Palin pick set them back 12 years with me.

its like the 04. as kerry was a straw doll to lose so dems could build a few actual canidates for 08, reps did same here for 2012.

i like how so many MICHAEL MOORE haters love oriely, rush and hannity.

the republicans arent stupid, but they have served christan zealotism and corporate elites so much and so long that only the stupid or elite believes the reps serve them in any way.

im not defending the dems here but michael moore was the dem leader from 2002-2004. running kerry/edwards and using moore and cnn made them look like idiots who were displaced by having governmental positions.

i think using Rush and FAUX NEWS ENTERTAINMENT is doing the same to reps, and they have 2 options.

find the republican obama figure to restructure their party in every avenue or declare though a church campaign that obama is the antichrist. pander the church and corporations - or - redefine what the word REPUBLICAN means.

im offended how many republicans spit the bile and venom the dems did in 04 via mike moore, same method. ignore your own parties flaws, change every subject to- WELL, democrats did...

this needs to end. i hope they redefine themselves so non-democrats will have a viable avenue to represent themselves through. if they dont, im happy with them going obselete as a political entity until some other entity rises to fill the gap.

Exactly. I identify myself with republicans on a lot of issues. However, it seems the republicans have lost track of their ideology by focusing on the nutjob christian constituency. Bush and Palin disgust me. Anyone who thinks the current Republican party is "small government" is out of their mind.
