The results are in. Democratic registration numbers have surged to a record four million, and an equally impressive record of an 800,000-vote advantage over Republicans in the state. Have things gotten so bad for the GOP in Pennsylvania that a stampede has begun?
Admittedly, most of these party switchers are part of the normal ebb and flow of the political waves. Republican voters have become either disenchanted with their party or find themselves more aligned with the Democrats. That's fair.

I suspect, however, that something bigger is at work here. Last week, when I was on the Dennis Prager radio show, a call came in from a Philadelphia-area Republican. At least he had been a Republican. He called in to announce proudly that he had switched parties to vote in the Democratic presidential primary. He was going to vote for the candidate who opinion polls say would be the weakest Democrat in the November election. That's a foul!

Remember back when the republicans primary was still up in the air, and it was time for the MI primary (I think it was MI) and there was a liberal talk radio host that was calling for democrats to vote for Romney in order to swing things towards him since he was seen as an easier democrat victory in comparison to McCain or Huckabee?

Well, it seems Rush Limbaugh has gotten the idea himself and plans on taking it to the next level. He is urging republicans in states that still have primaries to vote Clinton and keep the democrats reeling from their own folly for as long as possible.

Now, I ask, what do you think of this tactic? Is this whats good for the goose is also good for the gander since the democrats tried the very same thing ala Romney earlier in the primary season?

Or do you think its a dirty underhanded trick by the republicans?

Or is it simply extremely smart politics?

Discuss.

I think that only a few thousand ultra partisan hacks will bother. Net effect wll be almost nothing, it didn't matter when the Dems did it and it won't matter when the Republicans do it.

I don't like it and I loose respect for affiliates of both parties for doing it. I think it undermines democracy. It seems to have enough problems of it's own without this kind of stuff going on.

some people seem to get caught up in their own little game and forget about the things that really matter.

Well, the republicans dont have a primary to vote in....so they precisely have the advantage in doing such a thing than the dems did earlier in the primary season.

That...plus there is quite a bit of time between the remaining primaries. More than enough to plan something like this far more effectively than the dems did in MI.

I dont think its something you can simply poopoo away.

This. Ten Char.

And I think it's dirty for the left or the right to do.

It's a sad and pathetic tactic, by either party.

Winning matters more than the rest Stevenpfo. Surely you knew this about America.

I think Kos and Limbaugh should get together and make babies.

It sure seems that way to some people. I can come back with a cliche saying or something though ... No one wins when anyone does something like this.

But that wouldnt be factually correct. Come November, there will be a winner, one way or the other...

Damn it, if this stunt gets Clinton into the White House I can't be responsible for my own actions!

Democracy...American style.

Get it done, at any price!

I heard a news blurb on Fri. regarding the large number of Gop'ers switching registrations to DEM to vote in the Pennyslvania primary. Some pundits felt it was Operation Chaos while others thought it was Obama's mystical charm.

The ultimate irony.

This already happened in Texas, where Limbaugh urged people to vote for Hillary.

As far as whether or not it's okay, I don't like it, but it is what it is. Parties should do something to stop it, but I don't know what.

Y'know, in countries like Canada, a stunt like that would be illegal and Rush would be up on charges. It would be called election fraud.

But in America, the elections are half fraudulent anyway. So I guess its fine.

Well, the thing is, voting is the will of the people and everyone has a voice. So actually, its completely your choice whether you want to vote democratic or republican. There's no rule stating you have to vote one way or the other.

Rush would likely be protected under free speech laws. But the individuals who do it? Yeah, it probably could be election fraud under certain state laws. But there's no way to show the actual motives behind the guy switching parties, so it becomes fairly moot.

I think its a despicable, scumbag move whoever is doing it and quite undemocratic. There would be much less opportunity for such tactics under my reformed election system.

It is terribly dirty politics regardless of which party benefits/supports it. It is the reason I think primaries should be abandoned in favor of closed caucuses allowing ONLY card-carrying and dues paying party members.
