    What are you talking about?

Why are you trying to divert attention elsewhere, when I already explained why is this assesment still relevant?

And racism - oh come on, try something better than baseless accusation of the mighty discussion killing R-word.

You attribute goals and attitudes to them spanning Generations irregardless of political changes. I keeping with this, you consider them enemies no matter what sort of political reform they undertake. You cherry pick out of reports from 50 years ago to lend credence to your ideas, irregardless of what it will say on the matter a few paragraphs later, the author would say on the matter now, and again, attribute these features describing a specific period in Russian history to
As soon as you talk about long term postures spanning events that no one in the beginning of this could have forseen, ignoring some of the most dramatic political changes that any nation went through during this period, you have begun to base you're ideas on what nationality these people are, not at what they're doing.

The sad thing is that for the west Putin is the best out of the 2 other alternatives:

    1. The National Bolshevik Party- Which is a proto nazicommunist party.
    2. The Russian Communist Party- Which is exactly what it's name suggests it to be...

Wrong. I say the same sense of insecurity and paranoia that has driven them to expansion in the past still exists, in different form. That is why I quoted Kennan's words.

I don't cherry pick anything. Russia obviously still acts according to his observations. It is not as agressive as it is used to be, at least in this it adjusted to the new situation, but the expansionist tendencies still exist. They had been there before Communism and they survived it's fault, simply because the expansionist instinct is a part of Russia's rulers' mindset.

The West has underestimated it in the past, and the result was the Cold war and 40 years of communist terror in Central and Eastern Europe.

And you're trying to ignore the fact that countries often do show a long-term trends in their foreign policy. Russia is perhaps the most obvious case.

I don't say that the nature of political regime doesn't affect the foreign policy, as some realists and almost all neo-realists believe, but in some cases, the long-term trends (which are the result of persisting interests) seem to have a lot of influence on the foreign policy.

Russia is now clearly doing the same thing it has done in the past. You're wrong.

Oh, I'm glad you think that. Because I too agree that Russia acts according to Kennan's observations.

Well the Soviet Union is the only party who has a claim at all in this. And so far I haven't heard peep out of the Soviet Union over this ABM.

I should hope that we have a stronger missile defense/warning system than just that!

It is, you are right. BTW, do you know that NBP and Gary Kasparov are, in fact, in an alliance?

And, well, all that hot talk is just for the general public. Nobody will invade anyone (both sides, despite all their faults, do not want to deal with war on a grand scale), nobody will close its borders to anyone, and the West will still buy all that Russian gas and oil :)smug:). Nobody plans to conquer all of Europe, Nobody plans to exterminate the Holy Russia, The Only True Democratic Power In The World :D .

And all these Russian rockets... I think that our poor leaders feel so bored, maybe we should allow them to have their little pleasures.

He wasn't talking about just Cold War Russia, he was talking about Russia as a whole, throughout history. If anything, what he said is only more true today than it was fifty years ago.

How can something be both Nazi AND Communist? They're polar opposites! PROCESSING ERROR *head explodes*

Ask Edward Limonov, the leader of NBP, not anyone on this thread.

I dont really like Putin much but I do agree with one point he made, that the defence shield is being put there to stop a non existant threat, therefore I would have said its more the US thats being paranoid if they really believe the reasons they say for the shield but I am skeptical to say the least that thats the reason for the missile shield.

    True say there.

True say here too. As Xenocrates points out above, the installation of such a defence shield lays down the infrastructure for a much deeper US presence in Eastern Europe, which could possibly be upgraded / modified to a more offensive than defensive purpose some day in the future.

If you have some limited missile defense site where will u place them? Place them near some non-existing "potential" target ?? Or place them to a existing nuclear arm country with 5000 missiles ?? where 1 rogue general can fire the missile and start a nuclear war. I think the answer is quite obvious.
