[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine: Eight

23 % is not much, after 3 years. They haven't taken a major city since Mariepol and that was surrounded before the war.

None of their strategic objectives have been met.

Don't listen to me, here is the fart in charge :

Mr Putin said that "there will be peace [in Ukraine] when we achieve our objectives". Those "objectives do not change", he said, listing "denazification, demilitarisation and its neutral status". These are themes he has highlighted from the start of the war.

That was last year. Next we'll see him dancing to YMCA no doubt, but that victory parade will be a while...

Percentage is relevant in regards to what it is a percentage of; the area Russia occupies in Ukraine is the size of England/Greece. Ie it is itself (Eu) country-sized.

Russia wants to demilitarize ukraine
Euphemism for wants to erase Ukraine's nation, people and culture. No wonder Ukraine will keep on fighting against this.
the ukranian general staff obliged by exposing their personnel in places that are logistically advantageous for Russia
The good ol'Ukrainian switcheroo "You thought all I want is to defend this position, but all I want is to commit suicide!":mwaha:
Were I directing Russia's strategy I would make sure they were not ejected from Kurst intul they ran out of men
The good ol'Russian switcheroo "You though I had to remove you till October, November, December, January 20, February, whenever...but in true I just want to tie you here where I can launch wave after wave of brilliant strategic attacks till you run out of ammo":mwaha:

Not because they want to save Ukrainian lives, they just see where it's going.
WW3.

edit: short post won't do, I mean territorial concession is a way to de-escalate where this is going.

Trump suspends US foreign assistance for 90 days pending reviews

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday temporarily suspending all U.S. foreign assistance programs for 90 days pending reviews to determine whether they are aligned with his policy goals.
It was not immediately clear how much assistance would initially be affected by the order as funding for many programs has already been appropriated by Congress and is obligated to be spent, if not already spent.

The order, among many Trump signed on his first day back in office, said the “foreign aid industry and bureaucracy are not aligned with American interests and in many cases antithetical to American values” and “serve to destabilize world peace by promoting ideas in foreign countries that are directly inverse to harmonious and stable relations internal to and among countries.”

Consequently, Trump declared that “no further United States foreign assistance shall be disbursed in a manner that is not fully aligned with the foreign policy of the President of the United States.”

23% of Ukraine is occupied, and that is with beyond massive quantities of weapons sent to Ukraine. That's what has been achieved.

Russia already occupied ~8-10% before February 2022.

Russia has lost more than 50% of its army in Ukraine (the army as it existed in February of 2022). The 'massive quantities of weapons' that NATO and other allies have sent to Ukraine, barely make out 10% of total inventory in service in those nations, also by 2022 stats. The one lacking item that has been disclosed, is ammo and ammo production capacity. Europe is still lagging behind in this regard.

The war would cost us significantly more, if NATO and Russia were going head to head. That is why some Western leaders hope that the Russian economy and its will to sustain the war, will bleed out while still fighting in Ukraine.

still about the question of where this is going, and who will fight to the last of his people

"[Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelenskyy told me he wants to make a deal, I don’t know if Putin does ... He might not. I think he should make a deal. I think he’s destroying Russia by not making a deal," Trump said in the Oval Office on the first day of his second presidency.

Cutting US aid won't have immediate effect on the battlefield though. Stopping direct military assistance such as providing recon data, etc., would, but Trump has no reason to do it.
Unless he is really a "Russian puppet", of course.

also assuming the executive order applies to Ukraine, that being a conclusion originating from online pro-Russian web sites is telling.

Yes, but I merely meant the situation and possible peace terms gets worse for Ukraine every year.
There are no peace terms, never were, only surrender, and loss of self-determination. Which the Ukranians can accept anytime.

Ukrainian army psychiatrist arrested on $1m corruption charge

Ukraine has detained its army's chief psychiatrist for alleged "illegal enrichment" charges related to earnings of more than $1m (£813,000) accrued since the start of Russia's invasion in February 2022.

In a statement, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said the man sat on a commission deciding whether individuals were fit for military service.

The SBU statement did not name him - however, a man called Oleh Druz was previously identified as the Ukrainian Armed Forces' chief psychiatrist.

The SBU said he owned three apartments in or near Kyiv, one in Odesa, two plots of land and several BMW luxury cars, and investigators searching his home also found $152,000 (£124,000) and €34,000 in cash.

The statement said the man did not declare the property, which was registered in the name of his wife, daughter, sons, and other third parties.

He now faces ten years in jail for the alleged charges of illegal enrichment and making a false declaration.

Druz was implicated in a similar case in 2017 which saw him fail to declare two SUVs and several properties, leading him to be suspended.

Ukraine has long battled endemic corruption.

In May, a Ukrainian MP was charged with embezzling £220,000, while in 2023 more than 30 conscription officials accused of taking bribes and smuggling people out of the country were sacked in an anti-corruption purge.

Last year, the Ukrainian parliament voted to abolish military medical commissions after several officials were accused of accepting bribes in exchange for issuing exemptions from military service.
