[RD] Russia Invades Ukraine: Eight

There was also the pretty blatant satellite images that were taken before the Russians left the village, and which clearly displayed bodies in the streets at the exact same place they were found after its liberation (hey, maybe that spacetime was in the conspiracy too).
But well, reality is irrelevant to people who have a vested interest in "alternative truth". The only question is if they are deliberately manipulative, or just flatly clinically insane. And what luck, we have at least one of each in this thread. Yay, I guess.

At least they are playing their roles to perfection. Gotta give them that 🤮

An everyday reminder for those who may have been gradually swayed by the Russian propaganda narrative.

1. Ukrainian Army has a right to be wherever and whenever they deem necessary within the country they are defending from invasion, for the very purpose of defending their country. It's 21st century warfare. Any dedicated military locations are spotted immediately by modern surveillance means and get targeted. All of our dedicated military locations were hit (or were attempted to be hit) with Russian missiles in the first hour of the invasion in February 2022.
2. The vast majority of Ukrainian servicemen were ordinary civilians before the invasion. They also have their parents, kids and wives at home who will bear the scar if the soldier gets killed. It's sick to imply that killing them is a somehow justified, whether morally or legally, but that's what Russian propaganda is made for.
To give you an idea, last year I lost a distant relative on the frontline. He was a teacher in my town before the war. The town is occupied by Russians to this day. Couple of weeks ago one of my close friend's relatives went missing in action (i.e. most likely dead). He was an ordinary villager from Kherson oblast.

I'm not saying there were "military targets" where the Russian missiles landed, I don't know. However:
Pictures of the hit places show dead and wounded people in uniform though.
Any city in Ukraine has lots of people in uniform on the streets. In a war of this scale there's lots of work with logistics, training etc behind the frontlines. Lots of servicemen are recovering from wounds and resting in those cities. You throw a cluster bomb in the middle of a city street on a weekend, there's a good chance there will be people in uniforms among the dead.
The "kidnapping of children" thing for actually evacuating childrem from a war zone into safe areas
This is so twisted, but highly expectable from this character.
Let's imagine your neighbor invades your country because they need more Living Space. Your house gets leveled by their bombs, you die but your kids survive. The kids are taken by the invader as literal trophies to be grown and brainwashed in hatred for your country. This would be absolutely normal thing to you, wouldn't it? Saving your kids from a war zone, what a noble cause.

Sumy region governor Vladimir Artiukh dismissed by Ukrainian government amid accusations that he planned a military awards ceremony in Sumy on April 13.
Artiukh has confirmed the plans for the event but denied responsibility for initiating it.

Let's hope it stands, even if it is to end on Monday anyway.

The corresponding proposal for a full and unconditional 30 days ceasefire has gone unanswered by Russia for 39 days. The United States made this proposal, Ukraine responded positively, but Russia ignored it.If Russia is now suddenly ready to truly engage in a format of full and unconditional silence, Ukraine will act accordingly — mirroring Russia’s actions. Silence in response to silence, defensive strikes in response to attacks. If a complete ceasefire truly takes hold, Ukraine proposes extending it beyond the Easter day of April 20. That is what will reveal Russia’s true intentions — because 30 hours is enough to make headlines, but not for genuine confidence-building measures. Thirty days could give peace a chance. As of now, according to the Commander-in-Chief reports, Russian assault operations continue on several frontline sectors, and Russian artillery fire has not subsided. Therefore, there is no trust in words coming from Moscow. We know all too well how Moscow manipulates, and we are prepared for anything. Ukraine’s Defense Forces will act rationally — responding in kind. Every Russian strike will be met with an appropriate response.I expect detailed updates at 21:30 and 22:00 from Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi following his conversations with brigade commanders and other units on the front lines regarding the situation in specific directions.

He mentions the US front and center - and yet the US has humiliated him and Ukraine at every chance they have to do so. Which implies that this is either very ill-conceived a post, or entirely self-contained.

Your absence of neutrality is showing here.

I am afraid that Kyriakos is right. Many people are pretending the US is backing Ukraine just to keep beating a dead horse and hoping it'll run.

I don't think there are a lot of people left believing it's not a show. But they have to play in it, as if the US were still working for a lasting peace in Ukraine, winning some time to take over the role.

So it's about not giving the current US government the excuses they are waiting for to disengage early. They want to do it, they'll do it (and they're doing it), but they should assume that choice.

The real strategy behind Russia’s sudden truce announcement

The timing, the brevity, the sudden, unilateral nature of it all. If Ukraine’s allies needed proof of Moscow’s wild cynicism when it comes to peace, the announcement of an immediate truce for Easter provided just that.

It came mere hours after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his boss President Donald Trump said they would need in the coming days an urgent sign that the Kremlin was serious about peace.

For Russia’s proponents, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement on Saturday looked like a nod to Trump – but the sudden declaration is so riddled with practical flaws, before it even gets out of the box, that it is likely to be simply used by Putin to support his false notion Kyiv does not want his war to stop.

[...]

A genuine truce requires negotiation with your opponent, and preparations for it to take hold. The sudden rush of this seems designed entirely to placate White House demands for some sign that Russia is willing to stop fighting. It will likely feed Trump’s at-times pro-Moscow framing of the conflict. It may also cause complexities for Ukraine when they are inevitably accused of violating what Washington may consider to be a goodwill gesture by Moscow.

Ultimately, this brief, likely theoretical, probably rhetorical and entirely unilateral stop to a three-year war is likely to do more damage to the role of diplomacy in the coming months than it does to support it.

too bad they refused to try longer, could have been the beginning of something real.

From Reuters
"The defence ministry said the fire had been caused by a breach of safety requirements and had resulted in the detonation of ammunition stored in a warehouse."

They'd rather say the blast is due to incompetent smoking Ivan again strolling through arsenal while lighting the biggest joint in history then admit Ukraine hit them!
