Guardian said:
The Russian ambassador to Ankara has been killed in a gun attack at an art gallery in the Turkish capital, Russia’s foreign ministry confirmed. Reports suggested the gunman was a Turkish riot police officer.

Andrei Karlov was attending the opening of an exhibit at a contemporary arts centre when he was attacked on Monday evening. He was several minutes into a speech at the exhibit when a man shouted “Allahu Akbar” and fired at least eight shots, video of the attack showed.

After firing at the ambassador, the man, dressed in a suit and tie, shouted in Turkish: “Don’t forget Aleppo. Don’t forget Syria. Unless our towns are secure, you won’t enjoy security. Only death can take me from here. Everyone who is involved in this suffering will pay a price.”

He also shouted in Arabic: “We are the one who pledged allegiance to Muhammad, to wage jihad.”

RIA Novosti reported that Karlov died at the scene, which was later confirmed by the Russian foreign ministry.

Local media, citing security guards at the scene, said the killer showed a police ID to enter the gallery. The pro-government Yeni Şafak newspaper claimed he was in the Ankara riot police.

Nice going. He isn't wounded now, he is dead.

-What do you think of the newest development?

Conspiracy theory ?
Although, after the "Oops, was that your plane?" stunt and the attrition of sanity in the Turkish government nothing sounds inplausible any more.

This one isn't conspiracy theory. I just watched it on video. The ambassador was filming a press conference at the time.

I usually blame Clinton for dead ambassadors. I suppose it works this time too.

edit:
The shooter is supposed to have shouted "Remember Aleppo", which led the Libertarian in the room to inquire "What's a LEPPO?"

And that's it for my election season jokes for today... :(

Chris Stevens was a C.I.A. asset who died in the line of duty. He was not only an ambassador, but a brave American agent. The consulate was a cover, and his position matched the cover story. That's not a conspiracy theory, but common sense, to which the US gov't can't admit, as a matter of intelligence policy. Clinton, as head of State Dept took the fall in the public eye, and I never thought that was fair, even as much as I was not fond of her.

Here he is, in Damascus, Syria, during the era of extraordinary rendition the Bush administration collaborated with Assad. Not the donkey pic, but scroll down.

Horrible. Can't imagine how the crazy (these days) Turks try to explain this away.

Any guess on what will happen to Erdo-Turkey now that it downed a russian ambassador?

Yes, if Russia needed it in the first place which I doubt, this is certainly pretext for an ultimatum.

Nobody mentioned it yet but its fairly obvious to me that the assassin is not only a murderer, but his suit is 50 years out of date. I mean even the Russians have moved on from those awful things. This is a very bad fashion statement for the jihad.

Konstantin Kosachev, the head of the foreign relations committee in Russia’s upper house of parliament, said... “It could have been a planned terrorist attack by extremists or it could be the work of a lone maniac. After we know, we’ll be able to understand how this will affect Russian-Turkish relations.”

A sensible reply to an unfortunate event. It certainly will harm relations in the near term, but whether it will in the long term depends on whether ties to the government beyond that the assailant was a police officer emerge. At best, he was indeed a "lone maniac" who was personally vehemently against recent Russian actions, and the screening for the position (and/or scrupulousness of the security team at the arts center) was insufficient. At worst, it emerges that he was carrying out the orders of others, which would chill relations much more.

Although I have little faith in Erdoğan and the find it highly unlikely that Gülen was involved as claimed, the lone maniac outcome seems the likelier of the two to me.

Erdo's line is always that it is the fault of super Gülen. Coups, hired hitmen against diplomats, bombs, maybe even the downed russian plane was the work of Gülen the mighty.
Well, he also blames Israel secret service. Which seems odd here, given Israel only stands to lose from a collapse of Turkey.

It's highly unlikely that Erdogan was involved. Last half year he made serious efforts to normalize relations with Russia.

Well, true. Is there any unfortunate event in Turkey recently that he hasn't blamed Gülen for?

Ironically, Putin was on his way to watch Alexander Griboyedov's play "Woe from Wit", when killing happened.
Griboyedov was a Russian ambassador killed by Iranians in 1829.

Clinton is the co-founder of ISIS
Dont worry Trump promised to lock her up once he gets into power as part of destroying ISIS and protecting America from terrorists.

Terrible situation all round, with no more easily solutions in sight

Conspiracy theory ?

You like conspiracy theories? Try this one on for size: Obama said there would be retaliation for Russian cyberattacks against Clinton and the DNC during the election and that some of the retaliation would be public and some of it not. Turkey is our ally, so would it really be too much of a stretch to say Obama called in a favor and asked Turkey to assassinate a high profile representative of the Russian government as part of his promised retaliation? I mean this did happen just a few days after Obama promised to retaliate against Russia for their cyber-shenanigans.

Right, and since actions against diplomats usually cause reciprocal response, in this case we should expect something to happen with US ambassador in Turkey...

Who do you think had the US ambassador killed in Benghazi ? I'll even give you a clue, its was Clinton  She is the co-founder of ISIS after all.

Pretty standard Republican tactics, to blame Obama and Clinton. I cant wait until they repeal Obamacare and blame it on Obama.
