Tonight Derren Brown went on live (two second delay actually) British television and played a little bit of Russian Roulette. He didn't kill himself but is this an example of television going too far?

It aired after the watershed but whether that is after children's bedtimes is up to their parents.
    Five.
Derren Brown and Russian Roulette. I thought that would have been obvious.

Agreed. If it has an on-off switch, it's ultimately the viewer's (or veiwer's parents) responsibility to moderate it.

    Erm, real Russian Roulette?
BBC could broadcast "The Deer Hunter", probably cheaper.

    Just roughly guessing here:
That freak show lacks of the Derren Brown guy anytime soon.:ack:

What if all TV "entertainers" eventually participate?
:hmm: Then maybe TV test pattern gets you the thrills...

There was only one bullet in the gun. He picked a man from an audience of 100 to load the gun and by reading the man he was able to deduce what chamber the round was in and fired it into the ground. Derren Brown is a very skilled mentalist and magician form the UK

Sounds like me used some kind of deceptive technique to make it APPEAR that he was in danger.

Teller of Penn & Teller has "caught a bullet with his teeth" on TV at least once (I think it was Saturday Night Live -- so it WAS live,) and on stage many times. It's a trick.

Back in the early 80s, an American TV show in Prime Time (8PM to 9PM) called "That's Incredible" featured a guy who used a mechanical device to pull off the stunt for real. (But not on Live TV.)

TV only goes too far when its latest experiment doesn't turn a tidy profit. Otherwise you have the power of viewer discretion (which is often advised).

Mojotronica is correct, it's a trick. If it wasn't a trick then he's a fool... as there are plenty of stage magicians who can do this sort of stuff by trickery ;)
The most obvious way this was done - the guy in the crowd was a plant. (I didnt watch it so I'm purely guessing, could be any one of a number of methods.)

It is kinda sick though imo... people tuning in to watch a man they think may be about to shoot himself in the head.

actually despite the fact that I was and still am against such a war, I was dissapointed to have never seen combat.

    Russian Roulette is just foolish.
