Saber Center for Bean Counting - Term 3

I guess the real question is how do we plan to win this game. Until marines show up, regular warriors & chariots will blockade as well as veteran infantry. I'm expecting that no one here ever wants to fight a battle on our home island. From that perspective, once we are air tight our cities should be concentrating on adding whatever can contribute either cash or science to our research. As unit support is costing us cash, growing our cities to size 7 would triple our number of free units. The key there will be finding a way to keep those 7 citizens happy. We'll need to debate whether to add temples/cathedrals or use specialists as we don't have enough luxuries to keep them from rioting.

We probably no longer need any barracks, so selling them off is probably a good idea. We might even want to sell off the granaries, but that's a better question for the bean counter. Interior cities should add markets, libraries and if needed aqueducts. Coastals add harbors to the list. As for units just enough military to seal the coastline while our work force irrigates nearly all the flat land (after chopping where needed) and mines the hills/mountains, with roads everywhere. Once the improvements are complete we should join them to cities to get that magic size 7.

But enough short term planning, how do we want to win this game?

I guess spaceship is looking like a good bet, if we can handle BABE and co. once they get Marines. It looks like diplo is gonna be vital even more so this game, as keeping relations good between us and other teams will allow us to survive when our blockade becomes obsolete.

As the turn approaches, what are our decisions?

Sell or keep granaries? I would sell both.

Sell all barracks, sell all but one (probably Scymitar would be the one kept if we keep 1), keep all barracks? I would sell all, but I know there is resistance to that idea.

Next builds? Libraries seem to be the consensus.

Rush curraghs or save for techs? I would get us to the Middle Ages first, then worry about rushing boats. Galleys are twice as expensive but they have double the chance of making it to team FREE, so it's basically a push.

Perhaps our Bean Counter elect would like to step into office early and make some executive decisions? Or I will just count votes as best I can.

I guess that's me, although elect would be a strange term as no one voted for me.

Sell the graneries and all barracks, my first impulse was to keep one like some of the others, but their cheap and we can get a new one up if the need arrises in a hurry, let's not pay rent on it now. I've been wanting at least one library in the north west for a long time now, let's get a good library building project underway, more specifics later, but I would like the culture and research capabilities, certainly we are going to want universities, in time. I'll be back soon with more. Plus, I don't think this is my area, but no more boats until after we've fixed up some of the stuff that's been neglected recently, like libraries.

yeah, but that's a long ways off, I mean we're still in the Ancient Age!

But yeah, classical, our main goal for the future is getting Siphais and then trouncing on one of our unlucky neighbors (I'm leaning towards BABE for some reason :mischief:)

Somehow we will have to go up both sides of the tech tree regardless. Sipahi or no, there will be no trouncing done on anyone else's island until we have at least Astronomy as well.

It may make more sense to emphasize getting Education first to build universities to make the path to Military Tradition less expensive, but it will really depend on what our contacts have/are willing to trade, etc.

I'd also like to discover education asap and "give it to gong."

I think navagation might be useful in this game, but that's a way off.

Don't fall over, but I'm going to go on tonight and load the save to examine it myself and try to get something together.

I am still in favour of keeping one barracks. Once we get the Tech, I would like to see a couple of galleys built. Until then I don't see any sense in building more boats. I'm all for a library building spree.

Until we know what the rest of the map looks like, what to research and what to build are tough questions to answer. If everyone else is like us with a home island to themselves, I imagine invasions pre-marines is going to be unlikely. However it would be kind of fun to sail 10 Galleons loaded with 4 Siphai each up to Babe's island and see if they leave us a spot to land

If everyone is situated simliar to us, then we might as well skip Military Tradition as our Siphai would have to battle infantry by the time we'd be able to land them. For now libraries and markets are the order of the day.

I think we're going to want Siphai, at 8 attack and 3 move, they are a good counter punch attacker, for example, they are great for killing tanks. But again, long way off. Everyone might have retired by then. :p

I finally accessed the save, I'm going to get started. Unless there's an 11th hour challenger for the Ministry of Bean Counting?

Bean Counting.
