Saddam arrested? [edit:YES!!!]

Would be a great news if confirmed.

probably the best thing they could have hoped for in this situation, no martyrdom I guess.

It is on the BBC website too. All the US Defense Department is saying is that they have a very important press conference at 12:00 GMT. I put my money on that meaning yes.

Great news! I want to see him tried next year, in a real Iraqi court.

Having Saddam out of the way will be a great relief to me, an anti-occupationist. Finally I can't be stamped "Saddam supporter". Also I believe the resistance will come more into focus now that he's completely gone, and can't attribute anything.

IMO - if it's true - Saddam should be tried in an international court for crimes against humanity.

Altough I understand that first of all Iraqi people have a right to try their former leader themselves, I think this a better in order solution to clear some things. And Iraq isn't a sovereign state again yet, so an Iraqi court maybe wouldn't represent the people.

I disagree, the Iraqi people need a sense of justice in their minds, the best way to do this is a trial by the Iraqi people under a constitution made by the Iraqi people.

That's what I tried to express when I wrote that my problem is that Iraq isn't a sovereign state yet.

I just don't want to see a US-driven show process after the ritual stay in Guatanamo ...

I never, ever thought this would happen.

So, they've captured him, and he is alive? This is VERY unexpected. It is the best news I have heard from this war, and most probably will be the best.

I just hope it is true.

then he can sit in a prison for 10 years while he awaits his trial.
Which I would appreciate if he would use the time to clear up some things we've been arguing about over and over.

It's official, Bremer, Blair and others have announced the arrest of Saddam Hussein!

Let's party, altough against the war from the beginning I'm very glad to hear this!

I think that Saddam will be tried in Iraq, however by US officials. Unless the country settles down in violence and establishes it's own law in under two years, the Iraqi people will miss their opportunity.

Though if he is held in prison for 5 years+, He better have some good things to tell us. I dont care how cruel they are to him, he doesn't deserve kindness, and I doubt he will change (though anything could happen...). Lets not be too hasty for a trial, he has a long list of crimes to sort through.
