From looking at infogames site, it seems there IS a workaround to the CD required copy-protect. If there wasn't, you wouldn't have to jump through all the hoops they ask you to in order to get the file (eg, serial number of any CD copying program you use, javascript error reports, etc etc etc...)!!
I am playing in Kyrgyzstan with (gasp) a pirate hack that I bought in Belgrade Yugoslavia. I'd be more than happy to buy a real copy, but absolutely NO CHANCE out here in the third world! Even tried to buy from Amazon.com, they won't ship computer games outside the US.
If anyone has this SafeDisk workaround, or another hack that will let me play the 1.17f patch version without CD, I'd much appreciate contact at:
tom_topham@hotmail.com
My original hack seems to be 1.16 or earlier, and its workaround was to let the game install normally and then drag and drop a cracked civ3.exe file to the folder to replace...
Thanks to anyone who can help. Firaxis/Infogames folks reading this (or anyone else morally outraged), if you can show me a way to take my money and get a real copy to me in a fairly hassle-free way, I'm also interested!
