Sanctions

That was my plan too, but with those relationship levels they both of course declared war on me
In my current game Augustus imposed several sanctions on me before declaring war, but since I brought the little army I had to the border, I was able to repel his forces and even protect my allied CS at the border, so after some time Augustus agreed to peace. By that time I had enough influence for reconciliation and in the end he stopped sanctioning me.

I understand it's harder with two of them, but peaceful playstyle usually means being ready to defend yourself. I don't think that changed.

@stealth_nsk good points, however when playing Warrior difficulty (two above Deity), it's hard enough to defend against 1 aggressive neighbour, never mind 2 of them!
I consequently lost a town to Napoleon, and when that happens, playing peacefully goes out the window - I need my revenge

Of course the two of them allied, and took turns in declaring/joining war against me.
I don't think reconciliation would be possible, at the end of the age the relationship modifier "Sanctioned another civilization" was at -330 and -460 respectively!

Oh well, it turned out to be a great game in the end, so I'm not complaining! However I never get to play a peaceful game - perhaps I'll play as Tubman in my next game ;)
