    Just an idea
A unit which allows you to:
Specialist: +exp for unit built in that city and reduce war wariness
Research:Military tech like arty, military tradition
    Golden Age: Standard
Special ability: A hero unit that is associated to its age which is a tough unit and fight like other units without a counter (so enemy has to dump alot of units to kill your hero)? Either that or something else, I am not sure

We had a thread earlier about that one with very good ideas for a Millitary great leader....

I think one of the best was that he could give you some sort of advantage in the field... like for example less collateral dommage when bombarded/some defense bonus/ healing!!!

It could be a unit u earn not one that you build!!!

I even suggested it in firaxis pool for the future expansion!!!!

Hmm... I'm not fond of that uber-unit idea : it would take some of the tactic and strategic value of the game if one can pop a military monster randomly. You're invading a civ, they put all specialisation on military in their city closest to pop a GP and then Rambo 12 comes to kick your ass, unless you've already poped Super-Tank, bleh.

Don't get me wrong : it's not the military GP who ticks me, it's his use as a uber-unit. Put something like a free promotion to all your units as special ability and it's okay for me.

    I aggre with ShaLouZa
The idear is OK, but its not to be a "military unit", would be OK that if you
but him in City, he makes a "traning camp" that provides 2-3 EX in city
or he helps generate a military TECH, as a superspecialist he makes +6 production, +6 Gold (and off course generate more military great people points
    Or something like that

I think it would be more interesting if you could give one extra promotion to existing unit, but without prerequisite.

So you could get this way things like Commando promotion more easily.

Some of the possibility I can think of when you get a military GP:

    You can choose:

    • Units gain +2 experience, war weariness back to zero, one time shot
    • allow you to build a Military National Wonder, unit trained from this city gain +2 exp. This wonder is required to build West Point (and replaced by West Point).
    • A super-specialist, giving you +3 hammers, +1 golds, +10% city defence.

The main issue is how to produce this military GP. If we use the Civ3 way it means it's totally out of the Civ4 GP system and will surely be exploited. My suggestion is when a player is at war, the three biggest city with barracks built will generate +2 military GP pts per turn (aggressive leader +3). If a city also has a castle it will be +3 pts per turn (aggressive + 4). Heroic epic, pentagon, Forbidden city and West point produce military GP points instead. IMHO it's doable.

Why not have 4-5 new wonders in the expansion that give military points. Seems pretty simple to me

Some of the ideas in this thread are good, and some are very odd.

Jonta: 6 production and 6 gold for one superspecialist??? Thats like 2 great engineers rolled into one. Pretty unbalancing.

It would not be too hard to add Great (Warriors?Fighters?). Barracks/Walls/Castle would allow you to add specialists for the GPP, and some wonders would generate points as well (like Chichen Itza/Pentagon and maybe if they bring in some new ones, or bring back old ones like Sun Tzu's Art of War). Caste System should also include unlimited Warrior specialists, as the military is often considered a caste in many cultures. No need to make it confusing, with war and whatnot. Military strategists can be geniuses without a current war.

Im not sure what the Warrior specialist (basic) would add. Maybe, +1 hammer, +1 beaker? (like the priest, but beakers instead of gold to represent how military tech can often drive tech advances in a society). And of course, +3 GPP points as usual.

    As for the GP
Superspecialist: 2 shields/2science/2gold? (just throwing numbers out: it should not produce as much as a Great Engineer), and I like the 10% city defence (perhaps this defence can't be reduced by bombardment?).
Discover Tech: Military Line, easy enough.
Special Ability: I also like the idea of a super-barracks/military acadamy that would add +2 exp for any unit produced in the city. Thats significant without being huge. This would stack on top of West Point. It shouldnt be required for west point, though, just as an academy is not required for Oxford university. (again, this is balanced: the National Wonder gives a bonus twice as large as the GP ability building). The 2 xp should be for both land and sea units too.

I dont think that they should add anything crazy in, like a super-unit or whatever. The GP system they have now is balanced in itself, and the Warrior should fit within it and be consistent.

Anybody played Desert War scenario that comes with the game?

It already has Great Commanders of some sort (with mix of abilities of other great people).

    I'd suggest

    Warrior Specialist
+1 experience to units produced here +1 culture (maybe decrease the Barracks so it only gives 2 exp on its own)

    Great General
    Super Specialist:+2 experience +2 prod +2 cult
Special Ability: Leader Unit, cannot attack, [can be upgraded to different levels of defense, say 2,4,8,16,24] has Sentry and increases Strength of units in its tile (and adjacent tiles?) by 10%?20%

I wouldn't mind having one, but all the suggestions in this thread, except for those made by Canadian Bacon, are grossely overpowered. I think a new GP with his suggestions would be nice.
