Hey there EL Justo. While I downloaded AOI 2.1 a long time ago, but for some reason have just now gotten to playing a full game in it. I'm not done with it yet, but I'll give an update thus far.

I started as the Ottomans, and am playing on Regent level (the "fair" level). For a while, I wasn't sure how in the world I was going to play this particular game. I knew what I wanted to do, I had a plan, but I was afraid that my mulitary's capabilitywould be supremely sucky; I was thinking along the lines of Italy in WWII Global, if you've ever played it.
Anyhow, as I paraded my horde of workers throughout my for the most part undeveloped empire, I began to realize that I had some serious industrial potential. I formed a MPP+ROP with the Central Powers, because I knew that Britain would push me around; if shw declared war on me, then war with Russia was sure to follow, and I didn't want to put up with the Russian's expectedly ginormous army. Luckily, when the Brits did push me, I had a sizeable military ( i never built any naval units other than transports, until I got Battlecruisers), and a few turns after the Allies declared their collective war on me, I had booted the Brits out of Arabia, and taken Thesallonika as well. A few turns later, my five or so Pre-Dreadnaughts bombarded that nasty Maxim Gun in Alexandria to one bar, and a few Ottoman Infantry made quick work of him, thus Alexandria was mine. Crete and Cyprus soon fell too, and then an amasses army finally took Athens. Until now, I had seen nothing of the Russians. They sent a number of cossacks my way, which met their doom at the buisness end of a Gatling Gun on the Caucasus. That made me mad, so I took Tblisi and Baku with relative ease, and pled for peace. By now, my economy is through the roof. Also, during that long war I managed to sink:
    3 Russian Pre Dreadnaughts
    2 French Pre Dreadnaughts
    1 French Iron Frigate
8, count 'em, 8 British Pre Dreadnaughts
    2 French Armored Cruisers
and a number of Steam transports, often guarded by these ships above. BTW, i did this with the 5 Pre-dreads, 2 Armored Cuisers, and 2 Early Destroyers you start off with ( well I built the DDs, so I lied, I did build a few ships. Sue me.)
After I got peace with the Allies, I was still at war with Romania, which was good since I wanted Romania. I woud've preferreed Serbia first, so Romania could act as a buffer to Russia sort of, but since I had just gotten the Maxim Gun, I figured what the hell, I'll take what I can get. I bypasses Bucharest and took that other town above it, the one I wound up renaming Kishinev, since I'd never heard of this town. I turned around and and besieging the 10 or so Galtings that are in Bucharest, a relentless pounding with 105mm and field guns are whittling away at them, as Ottoman Inf amass.
The AI, as it does, draws others into the war as well, and they brought Persia (who I had a MPP with ?!) into the war against me. In retaliation, I promtly took Tehran and Hormuz, but ran out of steam and settled with that.
I am by no means winning this game, the Brits have 4 times my VPs, but I seem to dominate the batllefield. However, a few problems remain.
First, the Battlecruiser text is reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaallllllyyyyyy lllllooooooonnnnggg, I cant read the ship's stats, I had to open up the editor to see them.
Second, can you simply trade for the Steel required for Gas Factory etc GWs, or is it a city proximity thing?
Third, how the hell am I supposed to win this game? I've thought about, once I subdue Persia ( 2 cities left), consolidating, and then an all out blitz-grab E at Dehli and S at Cairo, but potenitally as far south as Addis Abbaba. Once I secure Egypt and Sudan, and perhaps Somalia, I can really go for all of India, which leaves the door open for Indochina. I would also, at some time or another, like to push all the way west to Casablanca, and pick up Serbia, too, and load her and Romania up with the Maxims. However, most of these offensives will probably stumble and fall in the face of Maxim and Hotchkiss (especially Hotchkisses) Machine guns, unless I can get ahold of Flamethrowers; that's where the whole "needed steel for the wonder" question stems from.
All in all, I've very much enjoyed this scenario, dare I say much more that I have TCW (but even this doesn't have Intruders! )
I will keep you updated on my progress, I just finished researching Battlecruisers, so It'll soon be time to chase down the remaining British fleet

    Update:

I found a most fascinating of loopholes in the game engine.
First off, in a suprisingly ironic move, I now have a MPP+ROP with the Brits! I guess they learned to respect me and my fleet, as a few turns after we came to this agreement, they sent nine Pre-Dreads through the Suez towards India. Anyhow, the Dutch declared, through a MA with some S American nation, war on me. Thus, they declared war on Britain as well. If you go to war with Britain, then you face the whole alliance: Russia, Portugal, France, and... the Dutch?!
Thats right I got a Locked Alliance to declare war on someone in their alliance. France and Britain have completely obliterated Holland.
But about me, I finally took Bucharest, and I think after Serbia I will take Italy, as they annoy me much more than the Persians do; the East can wait.

    hi Cheezy. :D

that's some impressive no's you've got there w/ the ships. however, it's been so long since i played that older version (almost 2 yrs!) that i probably can't give you the type of commentary i usually do ;)

    re the Steel resource-
i do recall that this is a bug in that it's placed in only 1 or maybe no locations at all. this resource has been omitted for the next version.

that loophole is crazy! i've never heard or seen such a thing! i mean, i've seen where member of a locked alliance declared war on one another but the game engine, for some reason, wouldn't allow for the 2 allied nations to attack one another (the "No aggression versus friendly units" text or whatever it says in-game). this was in TCW...

    update 13 July

below is a list of all of the new 'phony wonders' that Savas_cafe managed to add into the editor for me. i guess now that they all have names and attributes that they're not really 'phony' anymore :mischief:

note that all of those listed below are pre-placed.

why so many you may ask? well, Rocoteh achieved quite a good breath through in WW2 Global by placing lots of these 'phony wonders' sop that the AI is more inclined to not raze cities. of course, nothing is 100% fool-proof. however, testing has shown some fantastic reductions in AI razes. so this is good...

I think you should disable the naval bombard defence values of the wonders. Otherwise it is possible that by a shore bombardment the wonders are destroyed, as I had to see in my test game!

I saw a most odd event in my game:

AI Germany launched a naval invaison on Enlgland andf seized Birmingham! They took it back a short while later though...but still.

Hey El Justo. You may or may not remember me from the TCW thread. Anyhow, I've been playing this scenario as well for some time now, and I'm afraid I must join in with others in pestering you. ;) Do you have a target release date yet? Can you at least tell me if it'll be ready by the time summer ends and classes start again?

Oh, and, as usual, excellent scenario! I have trouble deciding which one to play in my free time, this, or TCW. Thanks for all your work!

    hi psweetman1590.

of course i remember you :) and thank you for the nice words.

i always hate to give ETAs and all but i guess i can say that i at least hope to have it ready by the summer's end. however, i can't say w/ certainty.

we've been fine-tuning this hog though - i mean, once it's ready, it's going to be "spit polished" as they say  and it is so vastly different from the older version that it's going to be like an entirely new scenario (w/ regard to gameplay, techss, units, etc).

    --- El Imperio Español---

Hi ElJusto! Ive been testing this thing for some time now. The only thing Ive got to complain about are the raizes(Canada is a barren no-man's land now) which I know that you've have come up with a solutio now, and the endless "Asakrai Barracks" entrances for many buildings on the Civ File, and the just sheer difficulty to taking cities due to the bad targeting abilities of artillery pieces. Ive been playing as Spain and I have definitely become a world power. But the beginning was so difficult! A war with Portugal ran out of steam as quickly as it began, allowing me only to seize Porto but not Lisbon or the Azores.
Now though, after turns of rushing production in Iberia which has allowed for the conquests of Hispaniola, Mexico, Cen. America, Col-Ven, Peru, Brazil, the Indies, Libya, Afghanistan and Muscat(retaken from the Russians who had taken it from the British), and Malaysia. I will rebuild the once-mighty Spanish Empire. Screw you Monroe Doctrine, I do what I want!
I can take out any nation I pretty much want, except for those that have machineguns... the horrible horrible machineguns (Im looking at you, Japan) A Campaign against Japan proved to be tragic. I took out many Japanese Ships, which was a great victory since they no longer have a real navy except for two remaining ships. They can no longer perster me in the Phillipines and my beloved East Indies. I also gained Taiwan. As soon as I landed on the Japanese mainland (I wanted to create an industrialized outpost in Asia) My stacks and stacks of Cavalry and Artillery were useless against the machinegun defense of Japan. Have you ever considered giving Artillery more accuracy? I was using the most advanced artillery for Spain at the time (I think it was called Mountain Gun or something), or giving the Spaniards a perhaps, more advanced equipment? I know its probaly much to ask.
Navy wise, I have the most numerous navy in the world. Spain doesnt have any ships that pack a a punch, but enough of the second-rate ships that Spain can build get the job done. I wish I could build ships such as UK, FRA, ITA, or whatever. I watch them jealously as they get close enough to my shores, then I show em' how big my navy is and I feel slightly better... slightly :p

Oh yes, Furthermore, Spain does not control Tangier in the Scenario, France does which is innacurate. Spain had control of the northern part of Morocco at the time.

    ---A---
All in all though, I love this scenario, It is, with out a doubt, the best scenario I have ever played in any civilization game. It has made it that every time I play CIV, I play this one. I simply CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF IT! I love how you were able to manipulate the Civ engine in such a way that keeps nations in check, such Russianot being able to become as strong as it had in versions before, and how Germany can actually hold on for life. I really love this scenario, and I know... KNOW... that the kiddies here will remember this one too and LOVE IT. Tahnks so much for this addition to the forums.

Tommy - this is the exact same error you rec'd w/ the TCW 'folder within a folder' thingie. try cutting the 2ns folder and paste it into the Scenarios directory.

whew Alex! that's quite a roll there mate! well done! btw, what is that 'registered trademark' thingie in the one shot? i've never seen such a thing...

There are two files you need to download, I'm sure you know. One is the biq, one is all the unit animations and other stuff. It sounds like you either didn't download the latter, or it got corrupted. Perhaps you should try downloading it again?

Any timeframe on when this might be released in full to the public? I've been waiting on this scenario for months. Age of Imperialism was the most enjoyable Civ 3 experience out there, and I can't wait to see what the newest version will be like :D

i've been waiting for months too. this whole extreme delay aspect has frankly pissed me off. i'm now in a job in which i regularly work north of 80 hrs a week = basically no civ time = virtually lost interest in scenario, which really is a shame since i enjoyed Imperialism so much.

in the future, maybe a more timely release with ::gasp:: less "extensive testing" time might be a little more desirable to most people, esp. those which have a little more time during the summer and very little to none once the rest of the year picks up once again.

i hope this scenario lives up to the expectations of everyone who has been waiting so freakin' long for a chance to conquer the world, once again.

    regards.

ps. this wasn't meant to incite or cause argument - more or less, just frustrations with some suggestions.
