Scenario: American Civil War (18611865)

UNITS:

Oh, and the infantry system is finally done. I settled for a type of regimental names rather than primary weapon, so they are called, for example:

State Militia (uses the Boer rifleman animation)

Confederates:

C. Volunteer Infantry* (start unit, move one)
C. Volunteer Infantry** (move one)
C. Volunteer Infantry*** (same stats as ** but with a move of two)
C. Volunteer Infantry**** (final unit, move two)

C. Zouave Infantry (upgrades to C. Vol. Inf***)
C. Conscript Infantry (somewhat cheap defensive infantry, can be drafted)

C. Bushwhacker (cavalry militia, moves two, Radar)
C. Volunteer Cavalry (moves three, Radar, Wyrmshadow's Confederate cav. animation)

Union:

U. Volunteer Infantry* (start unit)
U. Volunteer Infantry** (move one)
U. Volunteer Infantry*** (same stats as ** but with a move of two)
U. Volunteer Infantry**** (final unit, move two)

U. Zouave Infantry (upgrades to U. Vol. Inf***)

U. Colored Infantry* (offensive supplement to U. Vol. Inf** and ***)
U. Colored Infantry** (same as ** but with a move of two)

U. Volunteer Cavalry* (moves two)
U. Volunteer Cavalry** (moves three)

These are all using the vanilla Rifleman graphics in an upgradeable line. I might try some copy-paste work on the colored infantry.

Special Units:

I added the Zouave again, it upgrades to rifleman*** (they did eventually abandon those pretty colorful uniforms). And I might add Sandris' new Napoleonic Austrian light infantry as some sort of Mississippi Rifles type unit. US Regular Infantry will also be added, using Rifleman animations. I don't know about Sharpshooters, should they be a good defensive unit with a bombard range of zero? That might make them a type of skirmisher? But why bother with that if you have artillery?

All infantry have ZOC. But I am thinking of giving them stealth attack so they can target artillery? ACW artillery were often shot to shreds, well their crew anyway, by rifle-armed infantry.

For the tech tree, it seems the progression is a bit random as far as the actual technology goes. .58 rifled muskets required for ironclads? How are you trying to focus the tree?

I know it seems a bit silly. But I have to keep the number of techs somewhat low. Besides those two are among the four only non-faction specific in that era. :)

Oh, and they are two military techs.

BUT it didn't use the artillery. That's my point  According to how you're trying to set up this game, it'll be all but impossible to win unless you use artillery... which means the AI will almost never win.

Well if you play as the Union then It'd be pretty historical wouldn't, because the rebs lost. But I see your point the AI is extremely dumb. darn. look My idea is to just wait till they come out with civ5 and hope they have a smarter AI. Which they problely will. Also I hope they use the civ3 graphics engine. I perfer civ3 to civ4, it's just too radically different to civ3. Also my idea will fix the Blockade runner problem.

Just a couple of ideas u might want to think about.
What about a Canadian Civ? Canada was owned at that time by Britain who could have played a major role in the war had they sympathized with the North or South.

Also on the subject of Native Americans. Cherokee Chief Stand Wattie had a Confederate Native American unit in the war and was even made a Brigadier General for his many acomplishments.
Maybe you could have a Confederate Unit of Native Americans which can only be built where Stand Wattie's unit came from historically.(Sorry I don't know where).;)

In real life the british didn't join the rebs because lincoln's emancipation proclimation had the added afect of making the British think the war was being fought against slavery and since the british ended slavery in the early 1830s I think 1832 or '33 they decided to not side with the confederates.
So my idea is that having the emancipation tech would then allow you to make alliances or make the allies of the other side rethink their alliance with them thus opening up for allies.

Artillery is now:

Field Guns (move 2, whole line upgrades):

6-Pdr Field Gun
12-Pdr Napoleon
3-Inch Ordnance Rifle

Siege Guns (move 1, non-upgradeable):*

13-inch Mortar
4.2-inch Siege Rifle
200-Pdr Seacoast Gun (immobile)

*currently looking for placeholder models for all three

I wonder how I can make the mortar different from the rifle, without having to give the rifle a firing range of 2?

It's back. And with new graphics (terrain is Ares' Terrain 2).

Meticulously recreated map after a dreadful deletion:

Virginia

"Stonewall" Jackson in the Shenandoah Valley

Kentucky and Tennessee

Vicksburg, Mississippi

The Trans-Mississippi Theater

The map is originally based on aeldrik’s pretty EuropeXL100. I just cropped out Europe while keeping the American east coast and expanded the map into the mid-west.

Yeah, the host. I noticed that as well. They didn't use to be that risky. I may use imageshack instead.

I haven't read through the thread yet, but for now I'll agree that that is a very beautiful map. :)

Yes, looks terrific... it takes a while pulling up the images to view them up close.

BTW, Imagehost.org is a good alternative in some cases. It is one of the quickest unannoying no login required up to 100MB any file type sites I have found. Kind of like the google of free hosting. Good for images.

If file is not used, downloaded, or viewed in 3 months (or something like that) it is deleted. So not good for things you want to have permanently available.

Is it possible to just get the map without all of the other parts of the scenario?

You may want to warn us that the host of those images will put up some porn. Glad my grand daughter was not standing next to me.

Screenshots rehosted on imageshack. Didn't know the other host was that bad. Never had any "porn" appear until just now. Bastards.
